You know those little things in life that people like to morally police and make you feel guilty about but you just can't muster up the shit to give?

This is a confession thread. I'll start.

I don't give a shit that you supposedly shouldn't feed bread to ducks. I don't care. Don't eat it then. People have been feeding them bread for decades and now we're supposed to bring them organic bloody walnuts or something? Or some other crap they don't want that doesn't float?
They can have my slightly mouldy bread and be grateful.

Over to you.

I think I might be a panda lol

Crikey me too. I thought those shadows under my eyes were getting bigger.

Chocolate covered bamboo stick anyone?

EarringsandLipstick · 31/05/2024 23:10

Yep, rats are wildlife too

Yes but encouraging their presence means young wildlife in ponds etc will be eliminated. You don't want to encourage the presence of rats.

At our local duck pond I once saw a whole colander worth of spaghetti just tipped for them. It still was in the circular shape (you know when you’ve left it a bit and it congeals)…

Outrageous! It should have been served fresh and tossed in olive oil 🤬

Who wins any football match ever, even if it is England/Scotland/women.
I don’t care about some people kicking a ball around.

Likewise. I couldn't give less of a shit about it.

EarringsandLipstick · 31/05/2024 23:11

Why do you care?

Because I've common sense & the safety of women is important to me.

foodtoorder · 31/05/2024 23:11

How about dogs?
People seem to be obsessed with their dogs, other dogs, how cute dogs are..etc etc

I like dogs, they aren't horrible on the hole.
But I don't want one, not interested in what your dog has done or how well behaved it is, how intelligent it is, what tricks they can do. Don't want to be swinging a sack of warm dog shit around on my walks, feel obligated to walk or be licked or sniffed after the dog has licked its butt.

Not bothered about dogs.

The organic recycling bin. It attracts flies.

No one is saying feeding them bread makes them go extinct 🙄

It doesn't make it right though.

not wishing to divert a light hearted thread but it actually is not only right but to be encouraged. I could respond in breathless dismay at you and others on here starving swans to death, but life doesn’t have to be quite this intense all the time.

Swans that have starved to death have been found along the Thames.

A Berkshire charity says that misinformation has confused the public.

People have been feeding bread to ducks for DECADES. Probably over 100 years or more. I bet Victotians did it. The ducks are fine.

great, another thread about people not giving a shit about animals/the environment/women!

I don’t give a shit about all the offended, uptight people, I’m so over people being offended about something/everything & having to watch what I say incase someone/everyone is offended!

I couldn’t give a shiny shit about what the person next to me has between their legs.

Yes. They're men.

Sure be lighthearted but an OP gleefully not caring about harming an animal isn't funny.

Oh, I really do, trust me.

My job/role
You may think my view is pretty universal and most people don't give a shit really about their job role however I am paid to actually give a shit about actual people who I find abhorrent.

Nails. I keep mine clean and neat by washing regularly and cleaning. I don’t understand at all why going to a nail parlour to have them gelled or faffed about with is in any way a grooming essential yet alone ‘attractive’

I am a researcher. I started an academic study about this. I had over 150 participants ( 90 female and 60 male). Majority of women thought that nail grooming was an important part of female attractiveness and defined this a regular (once a month or more) nail shaping and polishing. 0 % of men considered this as an important part of grooming. In fact we redesigned the study to see if men noticed this aspect of female grooming at all. We asked 279 men what they identified as attractive in a woman, using photos with manicured/un manicured women. Not one man noticed or cared what women’s nails looked like. None.

My nails are always cleaned and shaped but the idea that ‘manicured’ nails are attractive is totally constructed to gain customers. In RL men are not in the least interested or attracted to women who fuss about their nails.

A packet of defrosted frozen peas is a cheap way to feed ducks.

It's not cheaper than a few slices of stale bread though.

I don't care about fireworks upsetting dogs. I said it. There's a huge hooha every year. In fact I just generally don't care about the fuss people make over dogs. It's actually not dogs I have the issue with, it's the prick owners.

Ratisshortforratthew · 31/05/2024 23:15

You’re being a dick about ducks but I’ll add my don’t-cares anyway.

People’s babies. I really don’t get why some people clamour to go and visit and hold other people’s babies or enjoy it when people bring their baby into the workplace. Likewise weddings. Glorified school discos with a lot of pointless hanging around. Cars. UPF, to a degree - I get why processed food is bad for you and full of crap but convenience wins every time as I despise cooking. People being late, really doesn’t bother me.

Cattery · 31/05/2024 23:16

Recycling. I do it cos it saves space in the bin but I couldn’t really give a shit because once it gets to the council depot they Chuck everything in together anyway plus the recycling boxes create mess and litter with the wind and the foxes

People smoked for decades thinking it was fine until they realised how bad it was for you, same as plenty of other things. People smacked kids for decades as a form of discipline thinking it didn’t harm until they realised that they shouldn’t. Your argument is lazy.

Radio 1 Newsbeat got in touch with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds to try and get to the bottom of this.

"Just like us, birds need a varied diet to stay healthy," a spokesperson for the RSPB tells us in a statement.
"Although ducks and swans can digest all types of bread, too much can leave them feeling full without giving them all of the important vitamins, minerals and nutrients they need."
The RSPB did not know where the poster shared online was put up, or which organisation was behind the campaign.
But like health-conscious humans, it's advised that if you must feed ducks with bread, then you use something other than leftovers from a cheap white loaf.
RSPB England's Twitter account describes granary bread with seeds as "marginally healthier" than white bread, in advice it gave to a concerned wildfowl-feeder.
, external
"Although bread isn't harmful, our advice is to only feed small amounts to birds. We encourage people to use things like sweetcorn, porridge oats and defrosted frozen peas as well as bird seed," adds the RSPB.

Wouldn't give mouldy bread and most of our bread isn't white but grain - and frankly round here there's so many ducks they don't get overfed.

Sport - pretty much all now I don't give a fuck about.

Duck and feeding sign

Feeding ducks bread: Should you do it?

A sign in a UK park is urging people to feed ducks bread, but previous messages suggest otherwise.
