Things you're supposed to give a shit about, but you don't.

You know those little things in life that people like to morally police and make you feel guilty about but you just can't muster up the shit to give?

This is a confession thread. I'll start.

I don't give a shit that you supposedly shouldn't feed bread to ducks. I don't care. Don't eat it then. People have been feeding them bread for decades and now we're supposed to bring them organic bloody walnuts or something? Or some other crap they don't want that doesn't float?
They can have my slightly mouldy bread and be grateful.

Over to you.

Oh yes!

I don't care about what the grandchildren of people my mother worked with (retired 20 years now) are doing neither do i care about Pamela, you know Pamela who lived in the house on the corner, well the person she shares a rota with at the charity shop's brother went on a cruise and got norovirus.

I also don't care that I don't play the flute anymore (been over 40 years since I played in fact) despite my mother telling me the last time we spoke that it is one of the things that has made her most sad that I gave up when i had such promise. She was in tears about it. Honestly, if that's the only thing she has to complain about then her life is just fine.

Oh, bless - yes, that whole Pamela thing. Still, my mother cared about it and I now wished I tried to show more of an interest

Since I turned 60, I no longer care about:
What other people think
Cooing over babies
Other people's dogs - I barely tolerate ours
Celebrity anything
Brand name anything
Anti ageing products
Colouring my hair
Watching the news
Politics- they are all as bad as each other
The royal family
The UN

But I do care about good quality chocolate
And my family, most of the time 🙃

This is me, Ive felt like this since I was about 12.

This thread has made me realise I've never actually seen a dead duck. Where do they go? 🤔

The other ducks eat them to make up for the nutrients they've lost from their all bread diet.

Beekeepingmum · 01/06/2024 08:34

For me its dogs. I just don't care. No, they're not part of the family, the number of people who say that then give them a lethal injection when they get a bit old. No, they're jumping up at me isn't friendly. No, they don't love you, they love that you give them food.

godmum56 · 01/06/2024 08:34

I do not give a flying fart about other people's political views.

Velvian · 01/06/2024 08:34

I agree about the babies and children in band t-shirts for bands that are old enough to be their parents' grandparents. I find it so odd.

Nails and the beauty industry generally. I hate long nails on anyone.

Also status cars on finance. Why would you do that to yourself and your family's income. Average or lower than average earners spending £500 + per month on a car. I can't see how a £50k family car is any more necessary or useful than a £8k family car.

I'm another one that doesn't 'get' David Attenborough, I've seen no indication that he's wonderful and find it confusing that so many people do. I'm sure he's a perfectly nice man, but can't applaud him travelling around bothering animals the world over.

This thread is great but could be made better - if only we were using our real names and then everyone would know exactly which selfish and ignorant twunts to avoid.

Good point. There was a thread about getting an emergency ambulance and one poster said that they had to explain to the call handler that they're autistic.... I really thought that took the biscuit.

Worldwide2 · 01/06/2024 08:36

🤣 this thread is hilarious.

I don't care if people agree with me or not I don't care I'm not changing what I think just because you can't cope with my opinion.

I don't care about dogs they are so overrated. Smelly needy and really annoying. Also when people let them lick their face it actually turns my stomach and I honestly think less of someone if they do this.

Trans rights just bloody bore off already.

Politics

Being politically correct.

I don’t care about Harry and/or Meghan.
They can live their lives however they want, it won’t affect mine.

There is bound to be a database in China/Russia that you can buy if you are that interested... 🤫

Why? It's just a run of the mill Mumsnet thread!

People claiming body positivity and posting pictures with their big long swinging boobs out hoping for compliment.

Not saying I don't believe you, but where does this happen? 'Big long swinging boobs' has made me laugh so much😆😆

Nails. I keep mine clean and neat by washing regularly and cleaning. I don’t understand at all why going to a nail parlour to have them gelled or faffed about with is in any way a grooming essential yet alone ‘attractive’

I am a researcher. I started an academic study about this. I had over 150 participants ( 90 female and 60 male). Majority of women thought that nail grooming was an important part of female attractiveness and defined this a regular (once a month or more) nail shaping and polishing. 0 % of men considered this as an important part of grooming. In fact we redesigned the study to see if men noticed this aspect of female grooming at all. We asked 279 men what they identified as attractive in a woman, using photos with manicured/un manicured women. Not one man noticed or cared what women’s nails looked like. None.

My nails are always cleaned and shaped but the idea that ‘manicured’ nails are attractive is totally constructed to gain customers. In RL men are not in the least interested or attracted to women who fuss about their nails.

Not everything that women do is about men.

The fact that your research showed that women do something that men don't even notice and yet you're baffled that women keep doing it, just shows how internalised your misogyny is.

Shesaidseaside · 01/06/2024 08:40

I started to think about things I don’t give a shit about. There are lots of things. Then I thought can be bothered to write a list of things I don’t give a shit about. Then I realised that I couldn’t be both..

I don’t care about men in women’s toilets

Is that because you are one and it works in your favour? Literally the only type of person that wouldn’t care about it

To be fair I think there was something nice about close communities where people took an interest in each other. The problem is that it's translated so badly to the modern transient world now that it simply isn't something worth giving a shit about anymore.

Yeah - find it difficult o get a flicker of excitement from how they live their lives

HashB · 01/06/2024 08:43

Pronouns- get over yourself.

99% of what is posted on social media - ‘paint colours I used in my house (part 1)’ ‘5 things I won’t be doing with my second born’. Who considers this stuff other people need to be informed of and who are the people that seem to actually care?! Clearly in a minority here but give me a photo of your dog any day.

I don't care about my kids growing up and moving on.

My daughter is going to high school and I've had to mute the parents class WhatsApp, all the weeping and wailing is embarrassing.

Same, I will never get this.

For context, I've been a very present, mainly SAHM, breastfed, attachment style parenting blah, blah, blah BUT surely you feel happy for them that they're growing up into great young people.

I was very perplexed each time when people (mothers) got upset that year 6 was coming to an end!

Weddings. I find them so boring and false. I've been to a few where I knew the bride was cheating and the groom had secret gambling debt. So I just find it all very performative.

Itsthedress · 31/05/2024 23:06

So you don’t give a shit about potentially killing the ducks at your local pond. Because it’s inconvenient to get them something suitable. But also you want to feed them, so you’d rather make them ill than just not feed them at all?

You don’t sound like a very nice person, sorry.

This. WTAF is WRONG with some people?
