You know those little things in life that people like to morally police and make you feel guilty about but you just can't muster up the shit to give?

This is a confession thread. I'll start.

I don't give a shit that you supposedly shouldn't feed bread to ducks. I don't care. Don't eat it then. People have been feeding them bread for decades and now we're supposed to bring them organic bloody walnuts or something? Or some other crap they don't want that doesn't float?
They can have my slightly mouldy bread and be grateful.

Over to you.

Same, I will never get this.

For context, I've been a very present, mainly SAHM, breastfed, attachment style parenting blah, blah, blah BUT surely you feel happy for them that they're growing up into great young people.

I was very perplexed each time when people (mothers) got upset that year 6 was coming to an end!

I've just seen a post from 'Brummy Mummy' on Insta and the sad sack is sat in her dressing gown weeping and wailing because her youngest is leaving Primary this summer. Get over yourself woman! It is so boring!!! It just proves that these people don't have lives or anything to look forward to.

You really should. The potential for sexual assault. The potential for abused women to be terrified. The eroding of safe spaces for women. Join the sisterhood if you have anything about you. You’re part of the problem.

While I appreciate the points you make in the first part of the post, the last two sentences I find really off putting. The mention of the sisterhood makes me feel like caring less quite frankly.

Is that because you are one and it works in your favour? Literally the only type of person that wouldn’t care about it

Ah yes, because all women must only think one way so if we don’t agree with your view, we must be mean? Rightio.

Mozzarellaballs · 01/06/2024 08:47

Ooh another one I have, unless it is from parents or my children which I love handmade ones and their messages. I really don't care about receiving cards! I could tell you what they are going to say before even opening them, To bla bla bla Happy Christmas Love bla bla bla. Fabulous. Let's put them up and have them all falling and flapping everytime the door opens

I agree about the babies and children in band t-shirts for bands that are old enough to be their parents' grandparents. I find it so odd.

Nails and the beauty industry generally. I hate long nails on anyone.

Also status cars on finance. Why would you do that to yourself and your family's income. Average or lower than average earners spending £500 + per month on a car. I can't see how a £50k family car is any more necessary or useful than a £8k family car.

I'm another one that doesn't 'get' David Attenborough, I've seen no indication that he's wonderful and find it confusing that so many people do. I'm sure he's a perfectly nice man, but can't applaud him travelling around bothering animals the world over.

Yes- status cars on finance!!! The road is packed with enormous hulks of flashy metal where there are no way this many people genuinely affording these. Vanity!!! All the tiny run down houses with these huge things parked up outside..get your priorities right!

Whenever anyone mentions sisterhood, I pretty much tune out. I don't have to agree with you just because you're a woman.

I really don't think it is, even in winter. It's not part of their diet.

In fact, feeding too much of any item to ducks is a problem. The ideal is small amounts only.

Apart from it doing nutritional harm, it can encourage rats, who prey on the young.

Hmmm, I don't know. There must have been generations of ducks which have had bread as a staple. At what point does it become part of their diet?

We used to live near a river, and had tens of ducks wandering round our street. They would quack outside people's houses, and eat any table scraps they had - toast, ham, nuts, noodles, pizza, marzipan... on one occasion (and this genuinely was an accident), duck....

The point is though, they did thrive. They came back year after year (yes, definitely the same ones), had babies, the babies grew to adulthood and brought their own ducklings along and so on. Never seemed to do them any harm.

@BrickTraybake we have a duck pond down the road from us so during the pandemic we went regularly and I read Tinned peas were good for the ducks.
I told my wee lads and they were excited to feed them something different. It really is up the road from us so I let them run ahead, still in sight and I'd (stupidly) told my youngest we were feeding the ducks a "tin of peas", and watched as his older brother had to catch like saving a football at the world Cup a tin of peas being hurtled towards a unsuspecting mallard.
My little boy is autistic and took it so literally he didn't think he needed to wait for me to come and open the tin for him.
He just thought feeding them a tin of peas included the bloody tin 🙈

It's still a conversation in our home, "remember when little fella almost took out the duck with a tin of marrowfat?"

Also as a teenager I travelled a lot by train and in my then local station was a rat who everyone knew. He was massive and had no drama approaching the public for food. The station bins were plastic bags, the see through kind (I believe due to potential terror attacks) and this rat would chew through the bottom of the bags and retrieve burgers etc, I saw him once eat with both hands half of a big mac. I was chatty with the ticket lady who told me that sometimes people would bring him sausage rolls 😂
I had some of my friends over to mine (aged 18ish) for a few drinks before we went out into town and before we left I took a few cherry tomatoes and galaxy ripple for the rat so if he was out my pals could feed him. He wasn't there but I gave them to the ticket office who said he'd feed him them later, but he'd earlier ran off with a donner kebab so it would probably be tomorrow he'd be back 😂
I often wonder how old he lived to, he was so chunky his heart must have packed in at some point, all the stuff he ate.

This is a great story, thank you!!
Did he have a name?
I'm so happy for him 💓

I don’t think I’d quite call disagreeing with men using women’s toilets mean… sensible, protective, head screwed on, comes to mind.

Adults who think others need to seek help for enjoying something they don’t need to seek help themselves to find out why they are so desperately unhappy they are miserly at others’ joy.

My one would be pelvic floor excersizes. I've had two babies (albeit c sections), and have never done a pelvic floor excersize. I'm sure cavewomen didn't and were for the most part fine. I have great bladder control, and have never had any complaints re the tightness or whatever of my fanny. It really is a non issue, calm down.

Performative grieving, where people post the anniversary of their late parents death/ heavenly birthday, on Facebook for some unfathomable reason.

Me too, I've tried grapes and peas, they don't want it. They want the bread 🍞 🦆

I'm not making them eat it and thry are grown ducks, they can make their own choices

So ducks are capable of rational thought?
There will be one wanting gluten free bread
One will want flour-free bread
One will want it toasted
Where's the Marmite?
The level of not-knowing animal physiology and duck critical thinking skills is amazing in this one.

I genuinely don’t care about other people shoplifting from massive supermarkets - take what you want whether you’re desperate or just like the thrill

I’d forgotten that this is on my list, too. I have inadvertently stolen twice from a supermarket. I was worried when I realised but I didn’t feel guilty.

You’re statistically more at risk from the men you know in your home than a random trans woman in a TK Maxx changing room

Statistically more women die in road accidents than by volunteering to be the assistant to a trainee knife thrower. But numbers are not all we take into account when we decide what risks we are happy to take with our safety. The ability to make an informed risk assessment based on the situation we are confronted with rather than the theory, and the cost/benefit to ourselves (who, we are surely entitled to prioritise over the wishes of the knife thrower to practice his niche hobby, for example) of permitting the risk are important too.

I’m not 100% sure, but given the fact the topic was about men in women’s toilets and the poster was accused of being a man for not caring about it, I’m guessing ‘mean’ was in fact supposed to say ‘men’

Laughingravy · 01/06/2024 09:01

People who get angry about old statues. Slavery was and is abhorrent but a getting your knickers in a twist about long dead slave traders is really meh. The people who are suffering the abuse and deprivation of racism have more important matters to attend to than a statue.

Of course. So in that instance just don’t use the toilet when out. If you’ve decided it’s so unsafe based on your own warped sense of risk

When you give grapes to ducks how small do they need to be chopped up? (The grapes... not the ducks...)
