You know those little things in life that people like to morally police and make you feel guilty about but you just can't muster up the shit to give?

This is a confession thread. I'll start.

I don't give a shit that you supposedly shouldn't feed bread to ducks. I don't care. Don't eat it then. People have been feeding them bread for decades and now we're supposed to bring them organic bloody walnuts or something? Or some other crap they don't want that doesn't float?
They can have my slightly mouldy bread and be grateful.

Over to you.

You’re being a dick about ducks but I’ll add my don’t-cares anyway.

People’s babies. I really don’t get why some people clamour to go and visit and hold other people’s babies or enjoy it when people bring their baby into the workplace. Likewise weddings. Glorified school discos with a lot of pointless hanging around. Cars. UPF, to a degree - I get why processed food is bad for you and full of crap but convenience wins every time as I despise cooking. People being late, really doesn’t bother me.

I think a lot of it is social pressure and wanting to be seen as maternal. Clearly (as we can see in everyday life) most women don’t give a crap about other people’s babies other than in a performative “baby snuggles” way.

Having nails done. I actually think it looks stupid

Londonlassy · 01/06/2024 06:30

Despite the now seemingly 100s of threads I don’t care about private schools and paying VAT

@BrickTraybake we have a duck pond down the road from us so during the pandemic we went regularly and I read Tinned peas were good for the ducks.
I told my wee lads and they were excited to feed them something different. It really is up the road from us so I let them run ahead, still in sight and I'd (stupidly) told my youngest we were feeding the ducks a "tin of peas", and watched as his older brother had to catch like saving a football at the world Cup a tin of peas being hurtled towards a unsuspecting mallard.
My little boy is autistic and took it so literally he didn't think he needed to wait for me to come and open the tin for him.
He just thought feeding them a tin of peas included the bloody tin 🙈

It's still a conversation in our home, "remember when little fella almost took out the duck with a tin of marrowfat?"

Also as a teenager I travelled a lot by train and in my then local station was a rat who everyone knew. He was massive and had no drama approaching the public for food. The station bins were plastic bags, the see through kind (I believe due to potential terror attacks) and this rat would chew through the bottom of the bags and retrieve burgers etc, I saw him once eat with both hands half of a big mac. I was chatty with the ticket lady who told me that sometimes people would bring him sausage rolls 😂
I had some of my friends over to mine (aged 18ish) for a few drinks before we went out into town and before we left I took a few cherry tomatoes and galaxy ripple for the rat so if he was out my pals could feed him. He wasn't there but I gave them to the ticket office who said he'd feed him them later, but he'd earlier ran off with a donner kebab so it would probably be tomorrow he'd be back 😂
I often wonder how old he lived to, he was so chunky his heart must have packed in at some point, all the stuff he ate.

These have both really made me smile!

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 01/06/2024 06:32

How many Covid vaccinations anyone had.

Eating out - I have friends who seem to need to have meals out, and I go along for their company but would be just as happy with an instant coffee in a park or someone's house.

Definitely sporting results, male ballet dancers, the royal family and who wins the election.

YellowHairband · 01/06/2024 06:34

I don't care about ducks enough to feed them. I find it odd to be interested enough to feed them, but not interested enough to not feed them the wrong thing.

KateDelRick · 01/06/2024 06:34

I agree about weddings. What a waste of money. Especially big white weddings when the couple have been shacked up for years and have several kids but daddy walks the woman down the aisle and everyone cries during the speeches. That ship has sailed, love. No I don't want to contribute to your "honeymoon" in Alicante.

LlynTegid · 01/06/2024 06:34

Taylor Swift.

Other than wishing as with anyone that she is in good health.

Feelsodrained · 01/06/2024 06:35

Things I don’t care about:

Your expensive wedding/hen do/stag do
Your gender reveal/baby shower
Various political situations overseas
Pronouns and the trans debate
Falling birth rates
Whether your kid gets into a Russell Group uni/ private school
Whether other people eat or feed their kids UPF

I couldn't care less about Prince Harry and his feelz. Be a royal or don't, but stop telling us you want privacy, but then write a book and go on Oprah.

Or a six part Netflix series and 15 magazine interviews. Dear lord, go and find a job like most people and stop with your whining.

Nails. I keep mine clean and neat by washing regularly and cleaning. I don’t understand at all why going to a nail parlour to have them gelled or faffed about with is in any way a grooming essential yet alone ‘attractive’

I am a researcher. I started an academic study about this. I had over 150 participants ( 90 female and 60 male). Majority of women thought that nail grooming was an important part of female attractiveness and defined this a regular (once a month or more) nail shaping and polishing. 0 % of men considered this as an important part of grooming. In fact we redesigned the study to see if men noticed this aspect of female grooming at all. We asked 279 men what they identified as attractive in a woman, using photos with manicured/un manicured women. Not one man noticed or cared what women’s nails looked like. None.

My nails are always cleaned and shaped but the idea that ‘manicured’ nails are attractive is totally constructed to gain customers. In RL men are not in the least interested or attracted to women who fuss about their nails.

Who on earth is funding this misogynistic research?!

Feelsodrained · 01/06/2024 06:41

The whole ‘blood is thicker than water’ thing is one of the most misunderstood quotes ever.

Thats true - it means the total opposite of what people think. And yes another thing I’m not too fussed about is biology - why do I have a duty to be nice to people who are arseholes just because they are blood relatives (a lot of my family are lovely but some aren’t/weren’t and I have no qualms about cutting off people I don’t like, regardless of shared DNA).

Trunkybum · 01/06/2024 06:42

I never realised until now that I don’t give a fuck about ducks.

I also don’t give a fuck about UPFs.

or the fact I’m ageing

or what people think about the fake grass in my garden. My garden is about 3cm square so I’m not going to be rushing out to buy a lawnmower and pull up weeds when I can just do absolutely fuck all instead.

pictoosh · 01/06/2024 06:42

Trans issues - I'm not anti, just not interested.
Social media influencers - who are these people? Don't care.
Nails/eyelashes/heavy make up/being orange - seems like hard work to look desperate.
Status car/massive SUV - have a 12 year old Mazda that runs fine.
Remembrance Day - is it?
Following fashion fads - I like the clothes I've got thanks.

However I don't feed bread to ducks. It's not their fault.

berksandbeyond · 01/06/2024 06:43

Sonograms. Why are you showing me a picture of inside your body? Why the fuck is it your social media profile picture? Weird as fuck, I hate when people use it to announce a pregnancy.

Baby on board signs. Because you just happily crash into cars that don’t have one? Fuck off. And don’t come and tell me the bullshit about how it’s so the emergency services check the car for a baby because they’re not inspecting your mangled wreck for a little Prince on board sign before they check for humans, the car seat would be a much bigger indicator and people don’t remove the sign when their kids aren’t in the car!

Veganism is like a penis. It’s fine that you like it, it’s fine to be proud of it but stop talking to other people about it.

MLMS. You’re not a boss babe, you just look stupid and now I will avoid you in the street.

Polishedshoesalways · 01/06/2024 06:45

Climate change. It’s just the cycles of the sun and is natural and normal as explained by scientists that have studied these changes fir hundreds of years.

@EthnoBotanist

oh, I’ve got one. I don’t give a shit what men find attractive.

Climate change causing the end of the Western World (which is all that XR and the like seem to be shrieking on about). Would probably be the best thing all round for the planet if we'd all disappear off it tomorrow.

I give a shit about the animals, I give a shit about the plants, if I'm lucky, I won't be around to actually experience the process - but people? Nah.

I don’t think you understand climate change…and it’s already started.

Ginmonkeyagain · 01/06/2024 06:53

Parking. Boring driver problem I don't care about.

rookiemere · 01/06/2024 06:53

I will take as many flights to as many places as I can while I can afford it and whilst I'm still able to.

Of course I care about the environment a bit, but I see all these important people flying from all over the world to talk about what we commoners should be doing less of and I think nah I want to see the world.

See also David Attenborough who has been fortunate enough to travel the world several times over lecturing us about climate change, without ever being challenged or expressing regret for his contribution to it<dons hard hat>.

Also men will sexually assault women in toilets if they want to. Doesn't matter what they identify as. The magic women logo on the door won't stop them.

Yes, that is true. BUT, when they aren't given permission to be there, we will know when a man comes in to the women's bathroom that it is wrong, and we won't be the ones arrested because we felt in danger.

The trope of "men who want to sexually abuse women in toilets won't stop because of a sign", is tiring. Don't allow men in there and we will know when we need to be aware.

Yeah I agree with you on this. My 5 year has flown over 30 times already and I don’t give a shit ✨

Covetthee · 01/06/2024 06:57

Other people’s lives.

this sounds really bad, but I honestly do not care to hear about your latest holiday or your job or family drama or how your kids are doing at school or whatever. I ask friends out of politeness and that’s what friends are supposed to do, but most often I just don’t care lol.

and this is probably why I did not feel keen to discuss the in’s and out’s of my life with people because I assumed they’re probably feel the same
