11 year old wants ear piercing

My 11yo has really got a bee in her bonnet about wanting new ear piercings. She had had her ears pierced (lobes) when she was 8 (she’d been asking for ages) and now she wants a second lobe piercing and to get a piercing further up her ear (she said it’s called a helix).

Her dad initially told her a resounding no but that we’d discuss it because she keeps on about it. There was a suspicion that some of her friends (and maybe her) were planning to sneakily go and get pierced without telling anyone (don’t think/hope they'd have been successful) so I’m a bit relieved she’s openly asking and wanting to discuss it with us (she can be quite charming and persuasive when she wants to be!)

I’m inclined to compromise and use the second lobe piercing as a carrot/reward over the summer but do think the higher up ear piercing is something she’s way too young for. Would they even do that on a kid even with parental permission? Her dad and I will have to agree and suspect he won’t budge on either.

DD wanted this when she was 13 but we couldn't find a piercer who would do cartilage under 14 and when she turned 14 they wanted to see ID as proof. She now has 2 helix and 2 lobe piercings. She wants more but school only allow one pair of earrings until y10.

Well she may want them pierced, you may allow her to have them done. But what is the point at her age as most high schools will not allow her to wear them. 🤔

I think let her get the 2nd lobe piercings and then maybe the other one in a couple of years.

Although really, they're just ear piercings aren't they and she's old enough to look after them. It's awkward. Everyone has just differing views on it.

Apologies if somebody has said this, but if school has any restrictions on piercings, the helix will heal up really quick if it doesn't have something in it. Also, I seem to remember that after piercing, a stud has to be kept in for longer than 6 weeks, so she wouldn't even be able to get it done at the start of the summer holidays.
For this reason, maybe a compromise could be having the lobes done at 13 then the helix at 16.
That is, ofcourse, if you are minded to offer a compromise.

The second lobe id fine imo
The helix is tricky to heal and at 11 I would not recommend tbh. See how she goes with the lobes first and then maybe the helix when she’s a bit older and not doing so much activity/play. I had my helix at 12 and kept sleeping on it and catching it etc.
They do all look lovely though!
Please find a reputable piercer who uses a needle too

The 2nd lobe is a ear piercing yes ( depending on how fleshy your ear is ) but a cartilige piercing is a world apart

Also agree that 13 is fair for second piercing. I think I'd say Helix should be older though. Just my opinion. And it should be tied in as a reward for a good school report at the end of the year.

Let her get the second lobe done, not the helix because they hurt alot so maybe she could get it done when she's older ,like,e 13 maybe whatever you think.
