Pulling my hair is weird behaviour?

This bank holiday I went on a weekend away for my friends birthday, I know most of the people going but not all.

We got the train down and we’re all sat on the tables of 4 next to each other. They started talking about how they were doing their hair that evening and one had extensions and she said how difficult it was to style as her hair was so heavy. I simply agreed with her that yes when I had mine I had the same issue.

One of the women I don’t know, looked at me and said actually you can see your extensions, leaned across from the other table and yanked on my hair. I just looked at her bewildered and said “that’s my real hair, I don’t have extensions in anymore”

Aibu to think this is just odd behaviour? It was like she was trying to embarrass me

It's a really weird thing to do OP. Sounds like she was trying to assert her dominance over you. Hope you told her where to go.

Oh Jesus. Get over it. And stop going on about “all you lot who pull each other’s hair should be grouped together.” No one said anything about that one specific action being a thing people do, but in a general sense of messing around, a lot of people are very tactile and use it to display silliness and bonding.

Just get over it. You must be very high strung and you’re reaction, being this annoyed, is way over the top.

What’s “you are reaction” mean?

Highly strung? No I just don’t touch people I don’t know because that’s weird behaviour.

Of course it's weird and wrong OP, the voting is representing that much better than the comments, some of which are bizarre.

I want to know what happened next! Did you whack her hand away, did she apologise, what did the others do? I hope at least one of your friends stood up for you!

Some really bizarre responses. Sounds like she was trying to assert herself as an alpha and embarrass the OP. So glad it backfired!

This was my thoughts too

Sounds like an attempt at negging to me

OP - what was she like the rest of the time? If it was a 1 off I'd probably just think she misjuded an attempt to be funny, but if she was regually making negative comments to people I'd think she's trying to be the Queen Bee!

Thanks, she let go quick when she realised it was my real hair and I told her this is my real hair and I don’t have any extensions in. Then everyone laughed uncomfortably.

Honestly the rest of the weekend deserves it’s own thread tbh.

If one of my closest mates had told me I was wearing shit hair extensions (because that's what people are implying if they say they can see them) and reached over and yanked on my hair to try and prove it, I'd think they were being really out of order. If someone I'd only just metdid it, I'd be telling them to fuck off.

my slapping hand is reflexive and would have been out so fast. And then i may have said "your fake boobs aren't much better" and then dropped it.

I think we need a thread about the rest of the weekend if you want a vent?
And yes this girl was being a rude knob, presumably drunk.
I wouldn't dream of doing something like what she did!!!!

DinaofCloud9 · 28/05/2024 15:54

Some odd comments here. Of course it's weird to pull someone's hair to prove they have extensions in.

Tiredandgrumpygrateful · 30/05/2024 19:21

It brought to my mind the issue of consent. We teach our girls that no one has the right to touch them without consent. I would be upset and concerned for a time after too

Sue152 · 30/05/2024 19:23

Very, very odd behaviour OP. She sounds horrid.

Again, I had zero extensions in. So I have zero idea what she saw and to say in front of everyone she could see them is just …

Even if I’d had extensions in, yanking on them is going to pull it out. So did she think it was ok to damage my hair?

Good grief. I can't believe anyone would be do disturbed by this, let alone keep banging on about it. It really isn't important.

1989whome · 30/05/2024 22:15

That is definitely weird. What did she say after your told her it's your real hair? I may of been inclined to do it back 🤣. Definitely not normal "banter" behavior. Just plain rude. Some people do love the embarrassment of others though, so maybe she's just a bit of a b!#/h. Be thankful she's just a friend of someone else and not you

That’s odd and rude of her OP and I would have said - that hurts, why did you pull my hair?

It’s a bit weird, but I can see how it could happen when everyone’s a bit merry and messing around.

Not really sure it’s worth a second thought. Certainly not worth a post.

CantBelieveNaive · 30/05/2024 22:36

She sounds like a cow!
I also had a Mum friend who pulled my knicker label once! Not to tuck it in, which would be a favour, but to pull it and check what size I was!? That was over the line for me and I retreated after that.
Hopefully you won't have to see her again!! Sorry she did that.
Keep away or pull her hair back!! 😜

MrsJackThornton · 30/05/2024 22:42

I have curly hair and the amount of people from strangers to friends, both male and female who think having my hair down and curly is an open invitation for them to pull at my hair is unreal

I hate it, it's wierd and creepy.

hot2trotter · 30/05/2024 23:43

So OP, did you have hair extensions in or not?

Are you ok? I’ve said multiple times that as of right now I don’t have extensions in my hair.

Such weird responses on here.

I would be really pissed off if someone pulled my hair, it’s rude AF and oversteps boundaries.

Frangipanyoul8r · 31/05/2024 06:53

She was rude and odd and embarrassed herself. This is the kind of thing a silly teenager might do but not an adult.

Muffin101 · 31/05/2024 06:58

She was so rude but, on the plus side, she embarrassed herself so you didn’t need to do or say a thing! She was trying to knock you down a couple of pegs, she sounds horrible. Giving someone’s hair a twirl or a flick, that’s one thing, but purposely yanking (what you think are!) extensions would cause damage and pain. That’s not silliness, she was being beyond weird.

Ifyoucouldreadmymindlove · 31/05/2024 06:59

I need to hear about the rest of the weekend.
