Breastpumping at concert

AIBU for planning on pumping at a concert? I'm planning on taking my hand pump with me and a couple empty bottles to store then discard.

Does anyone know if I'll be okay taking in this? I've enquired with the venue but had no response.

For clarity it is Taylor Swift at Wembley

What so other people will have to see you pumping breast milk?

No way sorry

Jourl · 24/05/2024 20:04

No @MaryMaryVeryContrary so I'm not incredibly uncomfortable and at risk of causing issues for myself as baby currently feeds every 2hrs but she is unable to come with me (she takes bottles fine, so please no one be concerned about that).

I'm a breastfeeding supporter but even I would find this a bit odd to have someone doing this in the seat next to me to be honest

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/05/2024 20:06

Why would the venue care? It's a hand pump and empty (I assume not glass) bottles.

Kitkat1523 · 24/05/2024 20:07

Weird🙄

Pump before you go in in the loo or use an Elvie. Nobody else should have to see your boobs in a pump, sorry.

Why?

Mindblownawaybyfog · 24/05/2024 20:08

Hand express in the loo and shove a couple of breast pads in your bra..

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 24/05/2024 20:09

I don’t know if you will be allowed to take it but I definitely see why you want to. I don’t think you would do a full pumping session but presumably good to just do a couple of mins if needed

Justanothergeneric · 24/05/2024 20:10

I think it is perfectly fine. Do it under a big pashmina and why would anyone ever know? But if they did so what?

Flugelb1nder · 24/05/2024 20:10

I see no issue here in theory but why would you take such a small baby to a concert - i find the strange tbh

Pasadenadreaming · 24/05/2024 20:10

I don't think the OP means pumping actually while the concert is on (I hope) but is more concerned whether she'll be able to take the equipment through security/find a suitable space!

And if her baby does feed frequently then this is going to be important to prevent mastitis so all the 'weird' type comments are unnecessary!

Therapy4all · 24/05/2024 20:10

If probably double take, but that's it 🤷🏼‍♀️

RidingMyBike · 24/05/2024 20:10

Can you not just hand express off a little into the loo so you're not uncomfortable whilst you're there? Surely that would be a lot simpler?

If the small baby was coming then she wouldn’t need to pump. She just might need to pump to avoid mastitis because her baby currently feeds very often.

If she's pumping, presumably the baby isn't there.

PurBal · 24/05/2024 20:11

I don’t really get how this is weird.

ACynicalDad · 24/05/2024 20:12

If you feel comfortable with people looking then go for it. Once I'd twigged what you were doing I'd look away, but I'd probably look for a while trying to make sense of it!

AnOldCynic · 24/05/2024 20:12

Pump in the toilets, pour down the loo, job done. Back to your seat.

ACynicalDad · 24/05/2024 20:13

But there again I wouldn't be at a Taylor Swift concert :-)

Surprisedcupcake · 24/05/2024 20:14

Are you pumping just to get rid of the milk so your boobs don't hurt?.otherwise I was going to ask what you were going to do with all the pumped milk in the middle of a concert. Its a little odd but needs must 😂

That’s what I’d do.

To be honest, I wouldn’t feel comfortable seeing you pumping at a concert next to me. It’s just not the right scenario to do it in, in my opinion.

elliejjtiny · 24/05/2024 20:14

It should be fine. When I was pumping for dc4 I used to do it everywhere. I would never have left the house if I didn't. As it was I went on holiday when he was a few weeks old and it felt like I went to every cafe in North Wales and nowhere else!

Nice way of subtly letting the OP know you’d be staring because she’s such an exhibitionist Hmm

I couldn’t breastfeed my baby so expressed milk for her and did so anywhere and everywhere. It isn’t weird at all (and whhhy would you pour it down the toilet!?)

Lavenderhaze93 · 24/05/2024 20:16

I went to see Sugababes when my baby was about 6 weeks old. I pumped during the gig. It was standing. I danced as I pumped. No one bat an eyelid. In fact, I was praised by multiple people. It's no different to feeding your baby, f**k what others things. I wasn't missing my favourite songs for 30 minutes!
