Breastpumping at concert

AIBU for planning on pumping at a concert? I'm planning on taking my hand pump with me and a couple empty bottles to store then discard.

Does anyone know if I'll be okay taking in this? I've enquired with the venue but had no response.

For clarity it is Taylor Swift at Wembley

This bottle, with a lid on in a bag - why would that be ‘strange’?

How about those hakka collection pump things? You can attach them to your boob and have your hands free

Jourl · 24/05/2024 20:20

I worry that I won't be able to get it through security as there are restrictions on what you can take into venues. I've checked the banned items list and of course it's not on there so therefore should be fine but I'm just worried in case there's a reason they decide it's not.

I have standing tickets so not allocated tickets and the queues will be huge.

Plan is to find somewhere to pump before I get to Wembley to queue (anyone have any suggestions?) And then as soon as concert is over but again it's going to be chaos getting out of there.

Regardless of anyone’s thoughts on her doing it, I think OP was asking if she’d be allowed.

And you absolutely would be if that’s what you want to do.

Jourl · 24/05/2024 20:23

Perfect name @Lavenderhaze93 💜 this is reassuring.

Tbh I am surprised by the comments as I often have to pump in public and then NG tube / bottle feed my baby. Was especially needed early days to establish supply.

How big is it? The bag sizes you’re allowed for murrayfield are tiny. You could always get wearable pumps, I used fraupows.

FTPM1980 · 24/05/2024 20:25

Wembley stadium website says you are allowed clear, empty, plastic bottles upto 500ml.

However I wouldn't take your best ones. At a gig last week (not wembley) they would not allow any bottles in with lids etc...and were making people leave them at the door.

If you feel comfortable with people looking then go for it. Once I'd twigged what you were doing I'd look away, but I'd probably look for a while trying to make sense of it!

Top tip for men. If a woman is doing something in the vicinity of her breasts, don't look. Pumping, BFing, adjusting a bra, whatever, all none of your business. We don't stare at your cock and balls, even though many of you play with them constantly.

I really feel after the last few days in here that I need to run an education series for men on how to navigate the world. Not the sense they're born with some of them.

Cheepcheepcheep · 24/05/2024 20:26

These responses are mad. Pump away. I’d love to see if they’d have the same opinion if you had baby with you and you were BF!

Once again MTP nails it

@kikisparks Murrayfield have a bit about their breastfeeding / pumping policy on the TS page. So I would have assumed they'll allow that equipment and storage in?

if you get a discreet hands free one fwhich sits inside your bra I think it’s fine! I’ve pumped a fair bit using that without thinking too much !

Bemusedandconfusedagain · 24/05/2024 20:29

Good on you OP. Ignore the idiots who seem to think you should get mastitis rather than just pump a bit of milk as and when you need to. Take your pump and have a brilliant time.

That would work for me. SIL hand expresses and often has to find a private space to do it (her choice).

LemonzandLimez · 24/05/2024 20:31

Breastfed my 3x for Years but I honestly couldn't be doing with the fact of this! I would Hand express in the toilets to relieve the pressure, or use those plastic nipple milk catcher thingys that pop in your Bra!
Are you planning on pumping to keep the milk to use, how will you store it?!

PoppingTomorrow · 24/05/2024 20:33

I don't know why people woild have an issue with it.

Do you have a portable/wearable pump?

Agree the problem might be sealed bottles but as you're planning to dump the milk you won't need lids, just depends on whether the pump counts.

You're pumping for medical reasons, I'd be disappointed if they didn't allow it.

Becsahm · 24/05/2024 20:33

ignore the absolutely ignorant people saying to pump in the toilets! that's disgusting and so unsanitary and absolutely ridiculous for them to suggest it. you are doing something great for your baby and deserve a nice peaceful clean place , they will have a room in the stadium either a private room or a medical room you can use. However you can and should feel comfortable doing it wherever, whenever, ignore the immature saddos who care so deeply about boobs being even mildly on show, let alone being used for their SOLE PURPOSE. sighs. you sound like a great mum 👍

Mumofteenandtween · 24/05/2024 20:36

Will you be able to pump in such a place? I would find it incredibly hard to get into “pumping headspace” at somewhere so busy and noisy. I could (and did) breastfeed anywhere but pumping was something that I needed calm and quiet (and preferably a baby to sniff) to be able to do.

LL1991 · 24/05/2024 20:40

Pumping mama here! You do you, can’t believe the early commenters who are so negative. We all have babies to feed but we are also modern women who want to go and experience life, if you’ll be uncomfortable for not pumping then pump away. I’d certainly not judge you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

WaltzingWaters · 24/05/2024 20:41

I have had to pump at a concert but I went to the loos before it started and did it there. (This was a Coldplay concert at Wembley Stadium).

Onabench · 24/05/2024 20:41

I can't see why another other than who is immediately next to you would notice
Just crack on

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowItHaveAGin · 24/05/2024 20:42

Take extra breast pads, and don't forget to grab some water before you start.

If you're comfortable pumping wherever then go right ahead.

She's pumping and dumping, so nothing unsanitary with using the loos.

I fed anywhere and everywhere but pumping is a bit different imo.

I went to a concert while feeding. Did a big pump in the car pre concert and a big post concert waiting to exit the car park. Boobs were full but as a one off not a problem. Also try a haaka pump you could attach it and let it do its thing while you sit. No hand ache! I would often use two at the same time xx
