Breastpumping at concert

AIBU for planning on pumping at a concert? I'm planning on taking my hand pump with me and a couple empty bottles to store then discard.

Does anyone know if I'll be okay taking in this? I've enquired with the venue but had no response.

For clarity it is Taylor Swift at Wembley

Freemie in bra collection cups and little portable pump are on eBay for £32 new.

I am not affiliated to eBay lol.

Yeah, it seems a shame to dump breast milk.

Suppose it depends how long it can stay unrefrigerated for though.

It's the rule of 6, 6 hours room temp, 6 days fridge, 6 months freezer.

Summersprin · 25/05/2024 21:00

I have expressed (hate ‘pumped’ 😳) in sooo many bizarre places. Needs must! You’d be in agony by the end of the night and probably have milk running down your top. I had an Elvie so could have slipped it in without any fuss. I wouldn’t have been comfortable to sit with a huge pump on for all to see though I don’t think 🙈

BellaItalia242 · 25/05/2024 21:00

That's quite a long time unrefrigerated, op could keep it. Or even carry a little insulated lunch bag or similar.

BellaItalia242 · 25/05/2024 21:02

Elvie's are quite pricey I think.

Here's the Freemie listing;

I won't be able to keep the milk, I'll have to dump it as I can only take in 1 bag the size of A4 so no cool boxes. It will be summer so very hot.

Oh is that freemie any good? That's a really food price?

@PoppingTomorrow

Pumping in pubic definitely would be a step too far

Why?

Read it again... ;)

sixthvestibule · 26/05/2024 00:34

Taylor Swift - fine.
Someone was using a noisy breast pump right behind me the other week at a very quiet classical concert. Not OK.

I went to see Sugababes when my baby was about 6 weeks old. I pumped during the gig. It was standing. I danced as I pumped. No one bat an eyelid. In fact, I was praised by multiple people. It's no different to feeding your baby, f**k what others things. I wasn't missing my favourite songs for 30 minutes!

And then everyone clapped.

Jourl · 25/05/2024 20:41

I've never really had any issue with it in public before, like I said previously, I need to do it a lot for my baby otherwise I'd never get out anywhere!

I've emailed Wembley again, not had any luck via the phone. Did speak to someone but they said if it's medically needed then I'll need a doctors note.... I tried to explain but he seemed a bit clueless and kept saying I can't bring my baby (which I obviously know and is why I'm expressing)

I would escalate to a manager.

A doctors note for breast pumping? How ridiculous.

Tell me you spoke to a teenager without telling me you spoke to a teenager!

Sorry, I'm only seeing this now.

I have only tried the Freemie collection cups with a different pump, the cups were great.

I couldn't say re the Freemie pump, but I'd imagine - since it's been designed to work with their cups, it should be decent.

There might be reviews of it online.

PurpleBugz · 30/05/2024 20:19

I would be fine with someone doing this but I'd want to check before I took a pump with me. I just remember at a baby nearly new sale I couldn't sell my pump as it had had bodily fluids or however they phrased it made it sound like breastmilk is like blood or piss. but washable nappies was ok 🤷‍♀️

I remember my first night away from breastfeeding baby I took a pump with me to the pub. Pumped in the toilets once but on the wall home was just doing it walking down the street. Having had mastitis I encourage you to find a solution don't just hand express unless you know you will get a good amount out

Matildahoney · 30/05/2024 23:20

Hi OP, just an update, I've had an update from the venue I'm going to stating it's absolutely fine to take my pumps etc & I'll get an exemption certificate. That was from emailing the accessibility line.

Jourl · 01/06/2024 07:27

Would you be able to share the email you used as I've still had no contact thank you @Matildahoney

I’d love to know how you got on in the end as I am exactly the same situation!

Jourl · 02/07/2024 22:28

I emailed their Accessibility Team and requested a Medical Certificate to allow the breast pump. I didn't end up needing to show it as they just waved me through without a bag check

You can sell a pump, just not the tubing or collectors.

No fluids go through the pump itself.

BilaJ · 07/07/2024 18:56

Interesting! Mine was at Brixton academy and I emailed them ahead explaining I need to bring a baby bottle with milk in it and a small pump (hakaa) along with ice packs and a cool bag - they said it would be fine to bring and leave in the cloakroom. I pumped once before the concert in the queue and once afterwards with a nursing cover on- had no problems whatsoever

Altmum95 · 16/07/2024 04:36

Wow. I am in absolute shock at the AUDACITY of some of you users. You all realise that if she doesn't pump she's risking her supply, not to mention mastitis which can be really fucking serious?! Are you joking? If someone were to say "Is it okay if I take my asthma inhaler during a gig?" No one would bat a fucking eye, but because it involves an overly sexulised femalen body part which may I remind you all she uses to do the most natural thing in the world - feed her child ffs, you're all getting on your high horses saying it's weird? Would it be weird if the child was there and she fed? The answer is no btw. So if the baby isn't there she still has to mimic that feed and there is no other way than to pump for as long or as little as she feels comfortable.

I am disgusted at the answers to this question. Fuck me the world is awful to mums.

OP - I'm pretty sure the tour has been and gone now but I hope to the goddess you pumped right there. Fuck everyone else, you are not being unreasonable in the slightest. Do what you gotta do to feed your baby the best thing they can have and enjoy yourself while you're getting a break!

Shielehdie · 16/07/2024 06:19

It will be fine, I’ve seen tons of people talk about pumping at the Eras tour. Some weirdos on this thread but you’re entitled to do it and it’s necessary for your well-being so absolutely go ahead!
