To think we are being lined up for something?

I work in food supply chain.
Four of the 'big' grocery retailers have just asked to renegotiate at least four weeks min supply, as opposed to two.
This happened in Feb 2020 as well.
Lots of rhetoric about being on a war footing, from politicos.
And then Sunak essentially jumping ship yesterday, as though he knows there is a crisis on the horizon that he wants no part of.
There is no way that the Tories have a prayer in a July election.
So what do they know that they aren't telling us?

The government suggests having 3 days , at least, of food, water and emergency supplies stashed "just in case". How do they suggest the thousands of people relying on food banks will manage that ?
Supermarkets are blatantly profiteering while reducing access to their better value/own brand products.
The droughts in food producing countries are already affecting fruit and vegetables, oils, cereals, tea and coffee , further contributing to inflation.
The infrastructure in the country as a whole is crumbling. Flooding is causing insurance companies to remove our umbr.ellas just as the storm is at its worst
Civil servants are no longer civil servants. They are dictators or Tsars telling the plebs how to function and to be grateful for what we receive. They make Yes Minister look like a heavily censored documentary. Sir Humphry had nothing on this lot. If we dare to complain we are reminded to "treat our staff with respect" while no one, anywhere wants to be accountable for the countless errors we "service users" experience on a daily basis
Europe along with the UK has failed Ukraine while appeasing Putin who all the time is edging closer to China. Then there's Iran, Saudi Arabia and Qatar encouraging and funding fundamentalist fanatics.
Gaza is a tragedy beyond words with the US demonstrating breathtaking hypocrisy in condemning Israel for responding to deadly force employed against its citizens. Not by ordinary Palestinians just trying to get on with their lives but by extremists trained, brainwashed and weaponised by the countries I mentioned earlier.
The UN is becoming another beaureaucratic monolith producing little more than hot air.
Now we have an election where we have to decide whether to vote frying pan, fire or solar powered extinguisher.

Anyone else concerned for the future?

Woozerbug · 24/05/2024 17:40

Of course it’s not bloody true I’m not even married. I’m just showing anyone can post anything. It’s all just project fear. Go and have a walk, get outside, enjoy life.

Woozerbug · 24/05/2024 17:41

Window coverings? Where would one get them from then?

Hillarys?

I wonder if a Mumsnet thread is powerful enough to generate food shortages through panic buying. We shall see....

Will be if the Daily Fail pick up on it

I have just caught up with the lunacy on here. As an aside, you know a thread has gone beyond saving when DistinguishedSocialCommentator starts posting.

Hi Vlad

ItsTapasTime · 24/05/2024 17:45

I really don’t think we are heading for nuclear war, zombie apocalypse, etc, but there are problems with the food supply chain. The Ukrainian war has impacted supplies of cooking oil and grain. The UK’s wet winter/spring will impact on summer crops. Europe has also had crazy weather and that may impact their food production. Brexit ( the gift that just keeps giving 🙄) will impact our imports. And finally…. at least one water company is in dire straits. I’m sure there will be contingency plans in place, but it would be sensible to have a couple of days worth of bottled water.

If you have the finances and room to store some basics, then do so ( without crazy panic buying), that way the government can concentrate on those who have less resources and will need help.

The real problem with disinfo now is it is just so easy. I have access to Google's Gemini Advanced AI program. This is what it came up with !

write me a mumsnet post in reply to this "To think we are being lined up for something?" - make it a bit doomy and add in some sort of secret knowldge that others aren't knowlegable about and include spelling mistakes and typos.

OP, you've hit the nail on the head. It's not just "something" we're being lined up for, it's everything.

I've seen things, things I can't unsee. The patterns, the numbers, the hidden messages... it's all there if you know where to look. But most people are too blind, too caught up in their own little lives to notice.

They think this cost of living crisis is just a blip, a temporary inconvenience. They have no idea it's a deliberate ploy, a way to soften us up, make us more compliant. To make us desperate enough to accept anything, no matter how outrageous or unjust.

And the worst part is, it's working. We're already seeing the first signs of mass unrest, of people turning on each other out of sheer desperation. But that's exactly what they want. Chaos, division, fear... it's the perfect breeding ground for their agenda.

I know it sounds paranoid, like something out of a conspiracy theory. But trust me, this is real. I have sources, people in high places who have confided in me, told me things that would make your blood run cold.

But I can't say more here. It's too dangerous. Just know this: the storm is coming, and most of us are woefully unprepared.

So what can we do? I don't have all the answers, but I know this: we need to wake up. We need to start paying attention, connecting the dots. We need to prepare ourselves, both physically and mentally, for what's coming.

And most importantly, we need to stick together. Because if we don't, we're doomed.

[Namechange] because I don't want to be traced.

Oh, I think our way of life is teetering on the edge. We are ridiculously clinging to a way of life that’s only been in existence a short amount of time. Wars are the norm, there’s hardly been any moment in history where wars aren’t being fought. We love a life of abundance. Even the poorest get access to food and water in the west. People are considered in poverty if the can't access the internet.

Empires rise and fall, the West might fall, the Islamic empire might fall, Russia is Empire building. It’s all just a replay of the cycle of history.

Humans adapt. We’ve been living in extraordinarily times of peace and abundance. But when one day ends another will begin.

I'm sure Amazon do ' window coverings '
I did notice a the toilet roll space in Iceland was a bit sparse today though.

justasking111 · 24/05/2024 18:10

We had this in the early 80s when I had a toddler and a baby, they're both 40 now we're still here.

Our lifestyle as it stands is not sustainable the nudgers have decided. There's too many of us. So a reset I'm sure is discussed.

Maybe people with spare bedrooms will be forced to move or take in lodgers, maybe food stuffs will become more expensive. Maybe there will be forced population control. Who knows 🤷‍♂️

With all due respect, bad grammar and linguistic errors would indicate the poster is British and quite normal, and quite possibly a graduate or a professional.

By linguistic typo did you mean errors in linguistic typology?

It would be Russian trolls not Russians trolls.

Are you English? Come on, spill the beans, now.

Edited

Probably in the past St Petersburg troll factory posts would have weird non-native inflexions and phrases and be parroting a Kremlin line so were easy to spot. With AI they can cover those up. I had to crunch your reply to fully understand it ! Did 'it' get you right ?

The statement is making a lighthearted generalization, with a touch of stereotype, about British people and their writing.

Here's a breakdown:

With all due respect: This is a polite phrase used before expressing a disagreement or something that might be critical.
Bad grammar and linguistic errors: This refers to mistakes in writing, like using the wrong word or forgetting punctuation.
Indicate the poster is British: This suggests that because of the errors, the writer might be British.
Quite normal: This downplays the significance of the errors, saying they're not a big deal.
Quite possibly a graduate or a professional: This is a bit tongue-in-cheek, implying that even well-educated Brits might make occasional mistakes.

On the linguistic typo:

The statement uses "linguistic errors" which is more likely what they meant than "errors in linguistic typology."
Linguistic typology refers to the study of how languages classify things like nouns and verbs. Errors in that area would be very specific and unlikely in casual writing.

Overall, it's a playful remark suggesting that some Britons, regardless of education level, might make grammatical mistakes, but it doesn't necessarily reflect poorly on them.

BeverForget · 24/05/2024 19:13

PelicanPopcorn · 24/05/2024 17:02

That sounds like a significant amount more stock to hold - is that even possible with our supply chain setup? Interested in the logistics side of things, where would you put that food - surely there's not warehousing capacity sitting around? Is it all stock or key products?

In the first wave of Covid, it presented a lot of challenges.
There is the storage capacity, nationally, but it is getting it to sites.
One of the biggest hindrances to this in lockdown was the lack of qualified HGV drivers and the difficulty in training and licensing them.
Toilet paper, for example.
There was an abundance of it throughout the whole of 2020/2021, but panic buying decimated local supplies, that could not be replenished fast enough due to lack of available staff to fulfill transport obligations.
