Not working for me, he keeps parking across my driveway. I’ve asked him again to move it and he said all I have to do is be polite and ask.l each time.

I responded with I was polite the first time and how about he just doesn’t do it. And wow did it escalate. He was screaming that he pays road tax and can park where he wants, I pointed out it’s a dropped curb so no he can’t.

Honestly. It got so much worse, he called me a fucking bitch. Now I feel vulnerable in my own home.

Aibu? I shouldn’t repeatedly have to ask someone to stop blocking my car. I’ve noticed he doesn’t block the driveway of the people he’s working for.

My neighbours builder/tradesperson does this to me all the bloody time. Weekdays on my way to work / weekends. Apart from complaining to the tradies I’ve talked to my neighbours. Strange how their driveway was never blocked. Cheeky fucks

Too much of the American culture imported into the UK over the decades. Not really my fault.

A poor workman always blames his tools.

Moveoverdarlin · 21/05/2024 14:47

I bet he won’t park there again. Sometimes losing your rag and going fucking mental is the only way. I would definitely speak to your neighbours though. Let them know that their renovations has resulted in you being called a fucking bitch. If they have an ounce of decency they should apologise and I would have severe reservations about employing someone that reacts like that when being asked to move their van. He was in the wrong! Why didn’t he just say ‘sorry, yeah I’ll move it now, it was chocka this morning so left it there, sorry’.

samarrange · 21/05/2024 14:48

Call 101, explain that it makes you feel unsafe but also that you don't want a confrontation, and ask that if anyone is driving down your road in the next day or two whether they might "happen" to notice that the van is across your drive.

You can’t blame the US for being incorrect. Don’t criticise other people if you can’t get things correct yourself!

I'll make a deal: when people stop saying 'gotten' instead of 'got' and start rejecting Prom night, Black Friday and any other silly Americanisms, I'll stop misspelling 'kerb'. M'kay?

Or you can just stop criticising other people if you’re not going to get things perfectly correct, yourself. People make mistakes and use colloquialisms. We all accept this. If you choose not to, and appoint yourself Chief Pedant, then ensure you’re completely beyond reproach. Otherwise, you just look a bit silly.

M’kay?

Jaxhog · 21/05/2024 14:55

I feel your pain Op. We had a boiler engineer who did the same. When asked why, he said he always did this. We sacked him.

Not much help, I know, but parking there yourself is your best bet. Some people are just CFs.

I've had issues with neighbours parking over my driveway. Last time they did it I had had enough so I reported it online - your LA or police may have a similar thing - and the police came out and made them move it. It was about 3 am apparently. I was fast asleep by then. I made the report around 11pm before bed, expecting them to get ticketed or something in the morning. I actually felt a bit guilty when I found out what happened 😂

I any case, this builder sounds like a bloke who could do with a reality check.

I love that the police made them move at 3am 😂 Don't feel bad!

How did the neighbours act afterwards, did they ever do it again?

Or I can do whatever the hell I want and carry on. I'm sorry I misspelled a word, alright? Get over it.

Search your local council website for parking enforcement and give them a call. They may be interested in ticketing him.

This. I know he's moved it for now, but if he's regularly parking there call them and mention it to see if they'll add it to a route to check.

We're in a parking permit zone and when traffic wardens haven't been around for while people start taking the piss. A phone call or two to them when people are parking illegally usually results in someone on a moped doing a drive around every so often.

Blocking someone in their own driveway IS illegal. Our council have a dedicated web page for reporting parking problems!

And this, kids, is a lesson on how not to act when you've had your arse handed to you on a plate.

His threatening behaviour and swearing at you is a huge red flag. I'd be reporting it to the police.

Yep. I'd take no prisoners on this one. It's intimidation.

OriginalUsername2 · 21/05/2024 15:05

Did you tell 111 he called you that, aggressively? I’m guessing it’s perfectly legal for a man to do that 🙄

Perhaps people should kerb their anger a little more.

I find it exceptionally hard to believe that the police brought a tow truck or that the police came at all Grin

Or that calling NHS 111 had this outcome.

In Sussex, the police did tow a van parked across my driveway dropped kerb. It took about 5 hours but it happened! They would not have done it had I not been blocked in my driveway. It happened about three or four times in the five years I lived in that house; we were the first street from the town centre with no parking restrictions, so often used by shoppers or people going to the beach. When we were blocked out of our drive, they just called the traffic warden who issued tickets, but when we were prevented from leaving, they made every effort to find the owner/driver and eventually once did lift the van off the road so we could get out. Had a lot of verbal off the people who parked there, despite it clearly being a driveway and dropped kerb.

Twiglets1 · 21/05/2024 14:38

I would definitely do this while he is doing building work at your neighbours

This is what I would suggest.

shearwater2 · 21/05/2024 15:34

I would go and see the neighbours who are having the work done and tell them. If he has that attitude about parking he is probably a cowboy and will rip them off.

cwoffeee · 21/05/2024 15:35

What is it with people never blocking their client's drives – but blocking the neighbours'?

My neighbour has carers who block my drive in but not his. I don't really mind because they only stay for a few minutes and I'm sure they'd move right away if asked. But it's weird.

Samlewis96 · 21/05/2024 15:36

Wrong thread

F

What?

FrangipaniBlue · 21/05/2024 16:17

My neighbours and their visitors do this.

I think in their heads it's not an issue because they'll come out and happily move if I ask.

But I don't see why I should be constantly inconvenienced having to go over to their house to knock on the door and ask them to move!

There's plenty of room they could park without blocking my drive...... they just want to park as close as possible to their front door!

Your builder guy is a grade A twat for trying to intimidate you though Angry
