Not working for me, he keeps parking across my driveway. I’ve asked him again to move it and he said all I have to do is be polite and ask.l each time.

I responded with I was polite the first time and how about he just doesn’t do it. And wow did it escalate. He was screaming that he pays road tax and can park where he wants, I pointed out it’s a dropped curb so no he can’t.

Honestly. It got so much worse, he called me a fucking bitch. Now I feel vulnerable in my own home.

Aibu? I shouldn’t repeatedly have to ask someone to stop blocking my car. I’ve noticed he doesn’t block the driveway of the people he’s working for.

I find it exceptionally hard to believe that the police brought a tow truck or that the police came at all Grin

I'm telling you what factually happened. They had blocked my car in - I had no out. Council suggested I call, I called - the car was gone within an hour. No reason to lie.

Not from calling 111 you didn't

Can guarantee I did. But, not going to justify myself to some anon on a forum. 😅

Anybody demanding that horses, cyclists and others shouldn't use the roads on the basis that they are not required to pay road tax - is clearly not very pleasant or very bright.

But that doesn't mean that there is no such thing as road tax (technically called VED) that many road users are required to pay for their circumstances (i.e. usually owning a motor vehicle) - any more than you could argue that there's no such thing as stamp duty, just because you yourself may have bought a house under the threshold and thus never been required to pay it.

It is not the existence of road tax that is responsible for any illegal actions that people who have to pay it may choose to perpetrate with their taxed vehicles.

I think this is the point I'm making. The not very pleasant or bright people who insist they pay "road tax" thinking it means only they should be allowed on the roads. It doesn't help the 'not very bright people' if we continue to refer to it as that. To call it VED might hopefully help educate people that we all pay taxes towards road upkeep, regardless of if we pay VED or not, so doesn't give them an 'excuse' to act/think like a twat.

Although they then usually start bleating on about insurances and MOT giving them more rights 🙄

Not that you do have to justify it, but I think some of us are very curious to know exactly which department(s) of the NHS would have been responsible for attending a case of illegal parking after you called them!

bananaramaterry · 22/05/2024 11:34

@musicthroughthewall I'm hoping he's not done again today?

I see what you're getting at. There will always be selfish idiots out there who try to claim that they have more rights than others, often by citing ludicrous circumstances that have no bearing whatsoever.

It's not uncommon for some such morons to believe/claim that people who own their homes in a street should automatically have more rights to the limited parking spaces than residents who rent; and/or that those who have lived there longer somehow get priority.

There was even some stupid woman mentioned on a recent CF thread who claimed that, because the earrings she was buying were of a smaller overall mass than the scarf that the customer in front of her was waiting to pay for, she 'should' get to go first at the till!!

I've just noticed my mistake... Woops.

101...

What an idiot. So used to calling 111 over the years for our toddler.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 22/05/2024 11:38

Several threads running at the moment of men shouting at women they don't know. Often very nasty misogynistic language too.

Tale as old as time, eh Confused

Very easily done - I think it was more people's bemusement at the typo than any wish to be unkind!

Now I read back on it, I agree with them. 😬

StarsHideYourFir3s · 22/05/2024 11:56

I have had this OP, with my neighbour, Got called c-word, p-word (am mixed race), all of it. It just made me angrier to the point I was bellowing in his face that he had a tiny prick and to fuck off and move his truck before I moved it for him. That stopped him parking across my drive - well, that, and a visit from the police due to a race crime. Some builders are decent. Some are nasty fuckers who spend their spare time running drugs and thinking they're Billy Big Bollocks.

111 is a non emergency nhs line, 101 is a non emergency police line so I can guarantee you, you didn't call 111

Yes, I did correct myself above. Apologies for making you so upset.

Stephy1886 · 22/05/2024 12:45

I’ve encountered this before

for some reason they keep blocking the drive & say just to ask to move

might be for closer access to the van

wouldn’t put up with abuse tho

It's OK you didn't upset me i just get annoyed at the amount of adults on this forum who don't know the non emergency numbers and then repeatedly give the wrong ones out to posters. It's something iv stated on multiple threads as it's just not helpful. However it's not just you lots of people on here do it.

Aah @JuiceBoxJuggler its such an easy mistake to make but thank you for giving me a laugh and your good grace in acknowledging it 😂😂💐

It took me a while to spot the typo btw - then the penny suddenly dropped. It was the comment from @SirAlfredSpatchcock asking which NHS dept you called that got me 😂😂😂

Leedsfan247 · 22/05/2024 17:44

Speak to the people he is working for

StellakateT · 22/05/2024 18:00

I thought that no one is allowed to park across a dropped kerb that includes the people who live there. 🤔

Conkersinautumn · 22/05/2024 18:05

I'd be explaining to the customer team language that he is using to threaten local residents . But a slow clap for.anyone claiming to.'pay their taxes' seems appropriate. The excuse of a wanker

Sometimesright · 22/05/2024 18:06

I would speak to the people employing him ask them to ask him to not park there. Explain that you don’t appreciate being called a fucking bitch! Then if he continues to do so I would go on Facebook and tell the world what this builder is like!

I feel like this is like “cancel the cheque” 😂.

His van is a plain white van, no company logo. I think he’s likely self employed.

Also no update as he hasn’t been there today. Makes me hopeful that was his last day yesterday.

I live in an outer London borough and it's not illegal to park across someone's dropped curve driveway unless the person in the house complains about it (crazy, but true). So I'd ring your local Council parking enforcement team and get them to ticket/tow him. That'll sort it.

It's illegal if theres car parked on the drive

PeachyPeachTrees · 22/05/2024 18:57

I had the same thing happen, 4 months of various vans constantly parking over my dropped kerb. They always moved but would take 10 minutes or so. I was having to check outside all the time and factor it in when leaving the house. Really annoying, so you have my sympathy. They never parked over the drive of the house being renovated which made me more annoyed.

Buffs · 22/05/2024 19:02

Completely and utterly unacceptable. YADNBU

Jeannie88 · 22/05/2024 19:23

Some people you just can't argue a valid point with and he's clearly one of them. Most drivers wouldn't dream of parking over someone's drive, unless for a quick delivery. There is a breed of humans like this, the ones who do wrong and become defensive and belittle and swear at you because they have no reasoning.

Once a woman was parked blocking the traffic to turn left chatting to a bloke. I was patient but it went on and on so I gave a beep and a wave to move while smiling. The lovely man shouted 'just drive past u stupid effing bitch'! Dur, if I drove past i would be at the crossroads and not able to see someone turning into the road oncoming. Honestly, stupid (and rude, obnoxious) is what stilupid does. Just vile
