If you had to start from a minimal amount (let’s say £1000), how would you go about it?

The pessimist in me would say it would be extremely unlikely regardless of what you done, but would be interested to see what others suggest.

AhBiscuits · 20/05/2024 12:41

Sell a kidney.
Sleep with and then blackmail a celebrity.

PippyLongTits · 20/05/2024 12:41

Presumably people who know how to do that are off doing that rather than scrolling mumsnet in the middle of the day 😂

Sandwichgen · 20/05/2024 12:42

Hitman.

(I'd probably be in jail within a week)

I reckon the hitman mentioned above might have some relaxation time 😊

I'd pay someone to break into the bank

DustyMaiden · 20/05/2024 12:45

I think you’d have to become an influencer. And be very lucky. I’ve made that much from investments but not that quick.

Beenaboutabit · 20/05/2024 12:48

Stop eating smashed avocado on toast and getting takeaway coffees.

C1N1C · 20/05/2024 12:49

Set up a business (easy to do with 1000), buy cheap, sell high... keep note of things like worldwide phenomena like covid, buying up PPE etc.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 20/05/2024 12:50

Do you know something about time travel that we don't?

Why would they take £1000 from you and hand over the loot rather than just keeping the bank money for themselves?

TotalDramarama24 · 20/05/2024 12:53

You could do it by becoming an influencer or going on Only Fans if really desperate for the money.

I can't think of much with such a small amount of start up capital and a short time frame but will watch with interest!

Luxell934 · 20/05/2024 12:57

I don’t think it can be done personally, not through legal means. Not a million pound anyway, surely even influencers aren’t making millions in the first two years.

Even people who turn over a million pound in their business won’t be making a million in a salary/have a million pound available to them.

TotalDramarama24 · 20/05/2024 12:58

There was a woman on TikTok (Demi Skipper) who started off with a bobby pin and made hundreds of trades and kept trading up until she got an $80k house. It was interesting to watch.

toomanytonotice · 20/05/2024 13:00

If it could be done people would do it.

you’d have to hit the zeitgeist with sales- or invent/provide/sell that elusive item that everyone needs but didn’t realise.

to make a million in two years would need a large amount of luck and right place right time.

Bumblebeeinatree · 20/05/2024 13:00

Didn't someone do this on ebay, bought a hair pin for £1 sold it for £2 bought something else for £2 sold that for £4, etc, etc, and made a lot of money just building up gradually. I think it was dollars rather than pounds and may be an urban myth!

Do you remember that million pound house project by that couple of blokes years ago?

they started with nothing, or was it a pound?, got a cheap property, refurbed, sold, bought a bigger one, etc until they had a million pound house.

i keep meaning to look at the accounts, if they’re even available, but I remember the maths was very basic, bought price, sold price, costs. No mention of mortgage interest and some other omissions.

Get a Tory MP mate to buy services off me that I can't actually provide.

elQuintoConyo · 20/05/2024 13:06

Sell photos of my foof, or feet.

Sell drugs.

Bumblebeeinatree · 20/05/2024 13:07

For most things I think you would need a bigger seed fund. And a lot of luck, probably could with risky investments, or lose the lot.

Scotsgirl001 · 20/05/2024 13:08

Marry a millionaire. Preferably a very old one 😂

So far I think this is the most viable option. Buy some nice clothes and pay for membership/access to where wealthy old bachelors hang out.

This looks like the best bet.

Getting a Tory MP mate in the first place seems like the most unappealing part.

Or both?
