This is an absolute nightmare of a case. If you've not been aware of it before now it's time to wake up and take a hard look at what is happening in women's support services across the UK. There seems to be a concerted effort to dismantle women's boundaries and withdraw support from vulnerable women who need spaces away from men.

I don’t say this lightly but Maggie Chapman seems to be a truly vile individual, utterly determined to put women and girls at risk of perverts. And I just cannot see the transwomen I know thinking any different. People who want to live their lives in quiet dignity. Everything Maggie Chapman does flies in the face of this. She’s grim.

AB also needs to think hard about how she conducts herself in any future workplace.

TheKeatingFive · 22/05/2024 07:20

Who is AB?

TheKeatingFive · 22/05/2024 07:20

Who is AB?

The female non-binary individual who changed her name to a typically male name, causing alarm to a rape survivor, who wanted to be reassured that she was going to be seen by a woman.

Roz was trying to find a work around to reassure the rape survivor.

AB took the matter to the CEO, and this whole witch hunt started

YADNBU!

I’m appalled by this story!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/05/2024 10:03

They literally said that it was against data protection rules and transphobia to even ask "AB" how to answer the question. AB threw a huge tantrum about Roz's polite email and complained of being traumatised by it.

Couldn’t they ‘reframe their trauma’?

It just goes to show the absolute cuntery of this idealogy that all this has gone on because someone was traumatised over being asked about the best way of dealing with the non binary issue over a raped woman's trauma. It's fucking disgusting.

How the fuck could anyone think that the identity they chose was more important than the fact a woman (we cannot choose our sex ) was raped by a man (nor do we choose to be attacked)?

It makes me seriously question how rigorous the job recruitment was.

ickky · 22/05/2024 11:22

To be fair to AB, she didn't want to be part of the discussion on the ERCC Policy decision. She even said it is up to the organisation to product a standard reply/policy.

She also only seemed to get upset after speaking to MW.

This was all a total failure of management.

I didn't know that. The whole thing is still extremely fucked up.

ArabellaScott · 22/05/2024 12:17

ERCC and RCS are both failing the women they are supposed to support.

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 22/05/2024 12:23

If I were in need of support following rape in all honesty I don't think I could be comfortable with anyone who was male bodied, or who considered themselves masculine gendered.

If anyone in a rape support charity had a problem with that I would hope they would hold the man who made me feel like that to account, not me for my supposed transphobia.

ArabellaScott · 22/05/2024 12:24

And they are paid a lot of money to support. These organisations are being used as vehicles for political and ideological ends.

Lovelyview · 22/05/2024 12:26

I'm furious he's still employed there. It is such a clear cut case.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 22/05/2024 12:42

It's unbelievable that his position hasn't been terminated with immediate effect. I'm hoping there's protests...

I would hope not to be 'counselled' by someone who wanted to keep it fun, and who had zero counselling qualifications.

Not hard to guess the motivation of a man who thinks listening to women talking about their rape is fun.

Same. I would not want some unqualified CEO dropping into my therapy sessions or attempting to counsel me regardless of whether they are male or female. Not their role. None of their business. They should be number crunching, fund raising, book balancing, hand shaking with MPs- not trauma mining victims for their own advantages.

Not more of this!

the fact that he is CEO is irrelevant - many CEOs will be qualified in the main skills of their organisation - head teachers who are qualified teachers / counsellors who are qualified counsellors / etc.

The issue as is clear to everyone else on here is that he is a man. No woman post-rape wants her counselling to involve a man. I doubt that any woman would care if her counselling involved a female CEO who was a counsellor and did some time counselling and some time doing paperwork

Yes - being unqualified is an issue, but the main issue is that he is a man.
Being the CEO is of no issue at all.

FrancescaContini · 23/05/2024 21:06

The sheer entitlement of this man listening in on rape victims’ counselling sessions 🤬

WandsOut · 23/05/2024 23:06

And he's still employed there as we speak and will be there tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.

Shame on him.
Shame on Edinburgh Rape Crisis and shame on all the board who enabled this misogynistic and traumatising behaviour to the most vulnerable women.
They all need to go now.
