My Disgusting Neighbour

BaldingMum · 17/05/2024 19:32

Terrace house with a shared passageway between mine and my neighbours houses which lead to a gate into my garden (neighbour has never put a gate up for theirs meaning their garden is fully visible to anyone walking down the passageway).

Neighbour has always hoarded in the garden, and it’s an absolute shit hole full of rotting rubbish. This has led to rats over the years which are primarily resident in his garden, although I have seen the odd one venture onto my garden leading me to put bait traps down.

Just about manageable, not ideal. However my neighbour, who has a colonoscopy bag, has started the disgusting habit of emptying his bladder on the back door step. The smell is indescribable. The flies are relentless.

My six year old child has to walk by this to get access to his garden and house (both of which are well kept and tidy).

the stickler is, my house is down hill to his, so inevitably when it rains, guess where all his body waste gets washed to.

He is completely blasé about it, doesn’t see a problem, his property etc etc. I’ve raised an environmental hazard complaint with the local council to see if they can do anything.

It stinks. It’s ruining the enjoyment of our garden. The flies are getting into our house. The rats are increasing.

WIBU to pour bleach where it’s evidentially doing this disgusting act? What the hell can I do to get this stopped?

Some people get off on that kind of thing - being as filthy as possible to see how much they can get away with before someone cracks.

lilkitten · 21/05/2024 10:04

I had this exact issue - I also am in a terraced house with an alley between me and the neighbour, they also have no gate and a terrible state of a garden. Luckily for me though it's tenanted, and when I contacted Environmental Health they spoke to the landlord the same day. In our case it wasn't the tenant that was the issue, it was the landlord, and he was apparently already on shaky ground with the council. He had poured cement down the drain, which meant an overflow of vile water into our garden and up to our back door. Is your neighbour the owner or is there a landlord?

Confused why didn’t you just put them straight in the bin…

The big garbage bin is outside in the garage and I didn't want to walk outside for every diaper change in the dead of winter with a newborn. After that, we got a small bin for the diapers and kept them outside on the back step discreetly until the end of each day.

I should say that I was putting diapers on the windowsill and then collecting them at the end of the day to throw away. I don't like diaper genies. They smell...

The window faced the neighbours window but it seemed like the window was never opened or used. I was surprised when they said it was their dining room window!!. I had no idea their window covering allowed them to see outside! I stopped immediately! I was horrified and apologetic. Sometimes people just need to be told how their behavior impacts others. I genuinely didn't know and was sorry. The neighbours now invite me over for dinner and drinks...

Oh come on now, are you seriously expecting people to believe that you did not know that it was anti social to leave shitty nappies lying on your windowsill and leaving them there all day. Really! It a pretty basic thing that most people would have figured out before they were old enough to have a child. Doesn't matter if you thought the neighbour couldn't see them it is still a disgusting dirty thing to do. It would attract flies and rats.

Ok. Calm down, lady. The window was facing a window that was never opened.

Did you have a bad day or something?

No, not having a bad day. Just think that people who leave human waste lying about attracting vermin are disgusting twats.
Doesn't matter if it was facing a window that wasn't opened. It is still not an acceptable way to behave.

Even if you don't own a diaper pail, you could put soiled diapers in a disused grocerybag or a bucket, not exposing them to other's during their breakfast. Yes you have changed your habit but not before there were complaints. Such things impact on neighbour relationships you know. Now you are "that weired woman who put diapers on the windowsill".

Were they sealed in nappy bags for a start? Wee ones I do bag up and leave on my landing floor and take down in the morning. No open or anything that smelled though obviously.

I caught him doing it last night when I was in the garden about half 9. I heard him come out, and then I heard liquid hitting the ground.

I couldn’t help myself so I just opened the gate and stared at him. He tried to turn sideways to hide what he was doing but it was obvious, as clear ad anything.

I let rip, said it was a disgusting and completely selfish thing to do. Told him it absolutely stinks and pointed out the flies. He tried to say it was an emergency, which I shot down straight away as complete and utter bollocks.

I pointed at the flower pot (he was doing it next to the bins this time) that still contained his vile stagnant piss from 12 hours earlier. Pointed out the stained path where he’s done it god only knows how many times.

I asked him where does he think his piss washes to whilst pointing at my house. Told him it’s a complete health hazard and to pack it in at once, before slamming my gate shut and walking away.

He did try to mutter sorry and he wouldn’t do it again… but we’ll see…!

I’m so invested in this, I need to know whether he listened to you!!

PollyPage21 · 26/05/2024 08:02

If he has a "urostomy" or a suprapubic catheter, as I would have called it when I was working, one that goes directly through the tummy into the bladder he would I should thought have district nurses or community nurses going in and checking on him or his wife if she's bedbound, if he has one that goes through the usual route I don't think he would necessarily be exposing himself but non the less this needs sorting, his sons could try voicing their concerns with his doctor but I'm not sure they would get very far because of patient confidentiality and data protection so I think your being forced to use other routes social services, police, the council all things I'm assuming you would rather not and that you would prefer to get this sorted in an amicable way, but, it could be that its the only way of getting him help that perhaps he's been refusing (I'm only assuming that)

When you say your landing floor, do you mean in your own home, i.e. upstairs outside the bedroom door, or are you in a flat and you leave nappies outside your door in the public area...? Obviously one is fine the other is definitely not!

Bagged outside the bedroom floor, for taking down into the bin in the morning. Definitely not a communal area 🤢

I think what I was getting at, is that if the nappies a poster was referencing are not stinky, and are sealed in bags, then I don't see it as hugely different to this.

Do you have cats? Do you allow them to crap all over your neighbour's gardens rather than your own? Unfortunately I do and the Environmental Health don't care that my child has walked this into my home. Human urine is not a health hazard. How do you know he has a catheter? I'm assuming that's what you mean because a colonoscopy is a medical procedure where a camera is used to view the bowel and has nothing to do with urine. Are you talking about a colostomy bag for poo? Keep your cats indoors!

What are you going on about cats for? If you had bothered to read the OPs posts you would see that the rest of your questions had been answered. Your user name is very apt.

My username is an instruction to others! The OP is complaining about the state of someone's garden that she wouldn't be able to see if he had a fence/gate but that doesn't mean she has to look into the garden. She should concentrate on keeping her 6 year old away from his property!

You haven't said why you are banging on about cats. Your response just makes you look dafter than your original comment did. Nothing to do with her keeping the 6 year old away. They have no choice but to walk past it. It also isn't just about the state of the garden. Still no cats involved though.
I will stick to my comment that your username really suits you. Maybe work on your reading comprehension skills.

The police, for flashing, and ASB. The council for the same. His HA/landlord for the same. He's breaching his tenancy surely?
Gross. Defecating in public view is a public order offence. If your being compassionate, could it be he needs a carer, is his toilet no longer accessible etc? You could contact adult SS with a concern of that nature.

But he's not flashing anything? He's emptying a bag the tap of which would be nowhere near his penis

Exactly! What the heck is all the fuss about here? The man probably has need for a carer and one day we all will!

JustJoinedRightNow · 27/05/2024 13:18

The fuss is that he could be emptying it into a toilet instead of his backyard where it flows into OP's backyard.

Come on now, it wasn't that hard to understand

PaulineMccormack · 27/05/2024 14:28

Exactly he could empty his bag in doors not outside the dirty git.

Maybe he's marking his territory to keep OPs filthy cats off his property? Did you know she lets them crap on other people's gardens but doesn't want it on her own garden? Male urine deters the cats.
