My Disgusting Neighbour

BaldingMum · 17/05/2024 19:32

Terrace house with a shared passageway between mine and my neighbours houses which lead to a gate into my garden (neighbour has never put a gate up for theirs meaning their garden is fully visible to anyone walking down the passageway).

Neighbour has always hoarded in the garden, and it’s an absolute shit hole full of rotting rubbish. This has led to rats over the years which are primarily resident in his garden, although I have seen the odd one venture onto my garden leading me to put bait traps down.

Just about manageable, not ideal. However my neighbour, who has a colonoscopy bag, has started the disgusting habit of emptying his bladder on the back door step. The smell is indescribable. The flies are relentless.

My six year old child has to walk by this to get access to his garden and house (both of which are well kept and tidy).

the stickler is, my house is down hill to his, so inevitably when it rains, guess where all his body waste gets washed to.

He is completely blasé about it, doesn’t see a problem, his property etc etc. I’ve raised an environmental hazard complaint with the local council to see if they can do anything.

It stinks. It’s ruining the enjoyment of our garden. The flies are getting into our house. The rats are increasing.

WIBU to pour bleach where it’s evidentially doing this disgusting act? What the hell can I do to get this stopped?

I haven’t read the entire thread but is there a reason he has given as to why he can’t empty it into the toilet? Or sink?!

Why does he insist on doing it outside?

Good on you for speaking up though

qwertyasdfgzxcv · 19/05/2024 18:05

Do you rent?

hcee19 · 19/05/2024 18:06

Get intouch with your local newspaper, they will love a story like this, tell them to bring their photographer too.....This should shake up the council into prosecuting your neighbours. This is a public health issue, its disgusting and no-one should have to put up with scumbag neighbours

Blushingm · 17/05/2024 20:18

There's no such thing as a colonoscopy bag - a colonoscopy is a medical procedure

Missing the point somewhat.

tommyhoundmum · 19/05/2024 18:32

I would hose it down and disinfect then ask my loca councillor to deal with the council for me.

Sennelier1 · 19/05/2024 18:39

@WitsEnd10 , of course there's nothing wrong with any kind of stoma! And no, if you feel like not covering it up, be my guest. But I draw the line at emptying the contents of whatever bag you need on a shared path or in public! You wouldn't pee or poo (excuse my French) in your neighbour's garden either I suppose! I expect people to show some decency!

CauliflowerBalti · 19/05/2024 18:39

There’s a product called Green Gloop that’s used to disinfect horse stables. It’s completely natural, won’t harm insects or the water environment and is the BEST thing to neutralise the smell of urine. Please don’t use Jeyes Fluid. It works but it it’s environmentally ruinous. I used Green Gloop to disinfect my yard when I had a very smelly male dog. It worked wonders.

However. You should not have to disinfect anything due to human urine. Complain complain complain. I’d tell his wife you were doing it as she sounds lovely and you don’t want to make enemies. But he needs to listen to a higher authority than either of you.

No really as it made no new so we had no idea what he was actually doing

I caught him doing it last night when I was in the garden about half 9. I heard him come out, and then I heard liquid hitting the ground.

I couldn’t help myself so I just opened the gate and stared at him. He tried to turn sideways to hide what he was doing but it was obvious, as clear ad anything.

I let rip, said it was a disgusting and completely selfish thing to do. Told him it absolutely stinks and pointed out the flies. He tried to say it was an emergency, which I shot down straight away as complete and utter bollocks.

I pointed at the flower pot (he was doing it next to the bins this time) that still contained his vile stagnant piss from 12 hours earlier. Pointed out the stained path where he’s done it god only knows how many times.

I asked him where does he think his piss washes to whilst pointing at my house. Told him it’s a complete health hazard and to pack it in at once, before slamming my gate shut and walking away.

He did try to mutter sorry and he wouldn’t do it again… but we’ll see…!

Well done OP! I really hope you calling him out has embaressed him and makes him stop

Contact environmental health

BlueFlowers5 · 19/05/2024 20:08

OP so sorry you're going through this. He could just be very arrogant and displays this ' It's my back garden and I'll pre in it if I want to' . I think that putting bleach down regularly is a fab idea. And push your local council on it being a health risk to you and your family. Do your local councillors do surgeries in your area?

justasking111 · 19/05/2024 20:25

Forget the bleach, start using jeyes fluid. Do the whole area.

noosmummy12 · 19/05/2024 21:34

Yes OP!!! Well done! Unsure how it can be an emergency when you have a catheter storing your urine unless he’s been that lazy he literally has let it completely fill or it was bypassing. Hope it stops now x

vendi · 19/05/2024 21:35

Agree with Jeyes fluid, every time.

@BaldingMum I have read your posts, not the whole thread. This won't be what you will want to hear because it costs you money, but you are currently spending money on bleach.
In my mind I have a picture of the layout of your garden.
You write that you have a gate. Is there a fence between the two gardens? If not, frankly you need one.
Whether or not you already have a fence, can you get some of those (usually ceramic) garden border edges and put them along the line of the fence between your gardens? It won't stop the rats, or the piss, it should help.

As others have said I would be making a welfare call to your local council adult services department. They clearly aren't coping and I wonder how safe his wife really is.

Tulipj · 19/05/2024 22:13

@hcee19 what a shitty Jeremy Kyle type thing to suggest. Yes it’s a bad situation but we don’t know what’s going on, you would honestly do that to his poor wife who’s housebound stuck in the situation? Op is going through official channels.

Tulipj · 19/05/2024 22:15

@Isometimeswonder no they’re not, if reporting it’s best to get your facts straight isn’t it or do we just make up wherever we like?

SurroundedByEejits · 19/05/2024 22:18

Definitely an Environmental Health dept. issue, think you'd struggle to get police involved if he's just emptying his catheter bag outside.

Social Services won't be able to do anything about his actions but may be able to support with wife- in England the charge may be prohibitive though, and you'd need their permission to refer them, unless you have evidence of any kind that there is risk outside of the obvious bodily fluid thing that would suggest a safeguarding concern. E.g. Does anyone actually see the wife to see if she's ok or whether she needs help? Is she being neglected or coerced in any way?

Have any of the neighbours spoken to this guy about why he's emptying his catheter bag outside? Is there an issue with the toilet? Do they need a plumber but can't afford one? Age UK or Citizen's Advice can support with benefits applications if they aren't getting them.

Thefsm · 20/05/2024 00:06

Buy a bucket with a lid he can empty it into and then empty it into the drain directly as often as you need to.

What!!! He can use the loo like everyone else does to tip it down

Fraaahnces · 20/05/2024 01:51

I bet his disabled wife used to do the cleaning and he can’t get to his bathroom anymore. It’s likely the place is a tip and this is why he is doing this revolting thing. That or he’s becoming disabled himself and the toilet is upstairs? Regardless, I’m so glad you gave him a “piss” of your mind.

He has a bag of piss strapped to his leg, it's likely there is a reason beyond sheer laziness thats the root cause of this issue.

Well done, and yes maybe he needed you shouting at him to stop this filthy habit. Some people absolutely know they're in the wrong but reason they can get away with it as long as nobody complains. Meanwhile, keep the bleach at hand. Might also be a good idea to document his wrongdoings so take your phone (camera) with you outside. I was thinking that maybe he does this so he or his wife don't have to clean the bathroom? I have no idea how much of a mess emptying the bag creates (if done properly), but I guess he maybe wasn't doing it right and that caused pee everywhere ?

So? Not OP’s problem. his family needs to deal with it.
