To request my complimentary stay after all these years

I had a really disappointing stay at a hotel about 10 years ago. When I complained to the manager, she was really apologetic and offered me a complimentary 3 night stay as a gesture of goodwill and to give them the opportunity to show me the usual quality of their product.

For various reasons, I never went back to her to arrange the complimentary stay.

AIBU to contact her now after 10 years to redeem my freebie? If so, how should I word the email request? I’ve checked that the same manager is still in charge at the hotel.

No, nothing. I’ve given up hope of a response now.

Don’t give up hope, send a chaser.

PuddlesPityParty · 03/07/2024 06:11

Her OOO might be because she’s left now 😨

Or maybe tell the truth

'Hi, it has taken me toll now to get over the trauma of my previous stay, so I'm willing to give it another go'... 😉

😂

Willmafrockfit · 03/07/2024 06:49

make a phone call?
go on

WinterInTheAutumn · 03/07/2024 07:07

Send it again 😆

GeneralMusings · 03/07/2024 07:17

I've really enjoyed reading this thread and now feel kind of sad she didn't get her freebie 😂.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 03/07/2024 07:18

Why on earth has it taken 10 years? 😂

MelainesLaugh · 03/07/2024 07:24

Definitely send the email again!!!

MamaSleep · 03/07/2024 07:32

Any update, OP?

Blanca87 · 03/07/2024 08:17

So you have been ghosted by the hotel
or grey rocked by the manger for being CF…
🤣🤣🤣🤣

WinterInTheAutumn · 03/07/2024 08:34

You could have emailed stating that you’ve only just realised that your reply to them was still sitting in your Draft folder, hence the delay! 😆

mcmooberry · 03/07/2024 08:37

Oh for crying out loud I was hoping for a response! Have been LOL re-reading the replies though so there's that.

Am a bit worried she has missed your email with all the emails she received while she was away though as surely it wouldn't be like her not to respond. Can't advise a follow-up email though, just too much.

A family who own a luxury villa in Spain offered us use of it as our wedding present 17 years ago then never mentioned it again, might be time for an email of my own.

Very poor customer service to keep me waiting for over two weeks for a response. Time is of the essence.

She probably hasn't stopped laughing long enough yet to send a reply

1AngelicFruitCake · 02/08/2024 17:50

Did you ever get a response?

No. I’m surprised that she didn’t reply, even if it was a no. She seemed very professional. I guess I will never know if she saw my email as she was on leave when it was sent.

I actually think it's rude that they didn't respond to you even with a no don't be a CF!!!! If you don't ask you don't get it was a no before you asked so you've lost nothing x

Resend it and ask if she got it. And tell her hundreds of people are waiting...

TellMeWhoTheVillainsAre · 02/08/2024 18:59

I don't understand how anyone can think this is CF. I would absolutely follow up with her. Another email querying if she's back off AL.

All they can say is no. But they are equally as likely to say yes. And you can be sure they'll be on their best behaviour pulling out all the stops to make your stay better than last time.

Send it again and link this thread, just for the laughs.

Wheelz46 · 03/08/2024 18:50

@ElsieandMavis yes as previous poster mentiomed link the thread in the email and add that it could boost their business if they are happy for you to link their name 😀

Peachy2005 · 04/08/2024 10:21

I don’t think any publicity on here would boost their business at this point. Apart from whatever issues gave rise to the original free stay complaint, customer service is obviously really poor if they couldn’t be bothered to respond at all. There’s no excuse for not responding to all correspondence that arrived when the manager was on annual leave. Even along the lines of, we are sorry we can no longer offer this free stay as so much time has passed but we would love the opportunity to welcome you as a guest if you choose us for your next stay. We have some weekend special offers, we can offer you a room upgrade if you book in etc etc.

@ElsieandMavis I think you’re as well off forgetting about this place as I would have low expectations of a good stay here, based on what you have told us!

rochenut · 20/08/2024 11:42

I reckon the manager printed off your email, framed it and hung it in her office. And anytime she or a visitor sees… they have a little giggle!
