To request my complimentary stay after all these years

I had a really disappointing stay at a hotel about 10 years ago. When I complained to the manager, she was really apologetic and offered me a complimentary 3 night stay as a gesture of goodwill and to give them the opportunity to show me the usual quality of their product.

For various reasons, I never went back to her to arrange the complimentary stay.

AIBU to contact her now after 10 years to redeem my freebie? If so, how should I word the email request? I’ve checked that the same manager is still in charge at the hotel.

Cheeky as fuck but I hope you get it! God loves a trier.

godmum56 · 19/05/2024 20:44

I genuinely do not see this as cheeky. Its a polite request. I mean the worst that can happen is that they say no.

Bouledeneige · 19/05/2024 22:17

Not cheeky but also not realistic.

PorridgeEater · 19/05/2024 23:33

10 years! I doubt they'd even have a record of whether or not you in fact took the complimentary stay years ago.
Personally I would let it go.

I have a voucher for a shop from six years ago for £70. I keep wondering whether I can do it. It's a small independent

Check the date. Most expire after 2 years

T1Dmama · 20/05/2024 08:09

I don’t think they’d honour it after TEN years. Think two or three would be the limit.

'Shy Bairns get nowt' as we say up North. Email & ask. They can only say 'no'. Please keep us updated & let us know their reply.

Conversely, It was “I want, doesn’t get” when I was growing up down south.

It was 'I want didn't get' where I grew up waaaay up north too, so I reckon you are hoping for someone in the kinda middle of the UK..

Was always ‘Don’t ask, don’t get’ when I was growing up. (London)

Always tagged alongside ’Worst they can do is say no’.

We were also told “If in doubt, don’t”, which I didn’t recognise at the time is a particularly crap philosophy for life.

But that was about saying "please" not about not asking.

Do people saying the OP is unreasonable understand that it doesn't cost the hotel £1300, or anything close to it, to give her her free stay?

How much it costs them depends on how much they could have sold the room for instead of giving it away free of charge.

Amx · 21/05/2024 08:41

I think she'll say yes! Good luck. Fortune favours the brave and all that jazz.

Medschoolmum · 21/05/2024 08:44

Shamelessly placemarking to hear the outcome!

Hope you get it Flowers

Put a copy of the email in your will and leave it to one of you children or grandchildren. It will be a nice thing to pass on to them.

They may offer her some dates that are less popular.

That presumes that hotels are completely full every night. They're not.
