To request my complimentary stay after all these years

I had a really disappointing stay at a hotel about 10 years ago. When I complained to the manager, she was really apologetic and offered me a complimentary 3 night stay as a gesture of goodwill and to give them the opportunity to show me the usual quality of their product.

For various reasons, I never went back to her to arrange the complimentary stay.

AIBU to contact her now after 10 years to redeem my freebie? If so, how should I word the email request? I’ve checked that the same manager is still in charge at the hotel.

Says she is on A/L. I think I’m better dealing with her because she was so conscientious and professional in dealing with my original complaint.

Whatever about sending it from hundreds of miles away while sitting at your computer, think how you will feel when you are walking into the hotel and looking at people face to face?

I’m embarrassed for you. Company policy offering comps will prob have changed. What an awful position to put the person in.

Don't be so dramatic!! The person will either say yes or no. They aren't going to be all angst ridden over it

I advise you to never work in the hotel industry if you think this is an awful position.

It’s not shame, it’s having a little nous, which so many women seem to lack these days, and they then get angry at other women who do have it.

I recently found a stash of old vouchers: £60 of Sainsbury vouchers, £9 of Argos, and £45 of Oddbins. All obsolete, because they were too old. Rang the companies (except Oddbins as they went bankrupt obvs) and was told (politely, but basically) no chance love, you can't get any money or new vouchers just suck it up

Happened to me with M&S. But do note the electronic vouchers have shorter expiry dates than before, and a lot more companies have introduced expiry dates.

They abolished expiry dates on vouchers in Ireland a couple of years ago. It's brilliant. I have a restaurant voucher that I got last year and had forgotten about. I've now booked a table.

Mind you, I may get less food for the voucher than I would have last year due to inflation but there won't be much of a difference.

Well done for sending your email to the hotel! Why shouldn’t you? You have nothing to lose by asking and may gain a stay at a nice hotel. I certainly would have asked, too, in your position.
