Which is more acceptable?

OK- so I thought this might be a good debate for Mumsnetters on a Friday ;)

Chatting to my partner last night and they mentioned its ok to pee in the shower. This is the same person who wont share a towel and has to have their own individual towel - no "family towels" as they say this is disgusting.

So the debate is - which is worse?

YABU - Peeing in the shower is acceptable but sharing a towel with your loved one is totally grosse

YANBU - Sharing a towel with someone you are intimate with is perfectly fine - weeing in the shower is actually NOT acceptable.

So there will be lots of you probably that think both options are totally disgusting or wrong - but can you choose which is closest to your view or which you could tolerate more.

Poll is meant to be lighthearted. There is no relationship issue involved here it just came up in conversation.

I think there was a study into it and if you wee at the beginning and take a standard 4 minute shower it’s no more unhygienic and it saves a toilet flush so better for the environment.

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 17/05/2024 11:14

Both gross. I think sharing towels is worse though , who does that?!

PodCastingPodCasters · 17/05/2024 11:14

Both are fine so I can’t vote!

Watchthedoormat · 17/05/2024 11:15

I'd prefer to share a towel with someone than have them wee in the shower I use

KarmenPQZ · 17/05/2024 11:16

I’ve also shared a towel with my partner if we’re away somewhere for just 1 night to save the host washing 2 towels after just 1 use. But I’d rather not purely because whoever gets it second in the morning gets an already soggy towel. So I. My house adults get towels. Kids share ours on the very rare occasion they have a bath (usually shower twice a week at the swimming pool before anyone judges)

Toomuchgoingon79 · 17/05/2024 11:16

I don't like or do either, but will vote for weeing in the shower is worse

KimberleyClark · 17/05/2024 11:18

They’re both a bit gross but I think peeing in the shower is worse.

L4815162342 · 17/05/2024 11:18

I do both but only when I've misplaced my own towel.

I feel squeamish using DH's towel.

So I'd say sharing a towel is worse than peeing in the shower. Totally fine with that. Shower gets a good rinse at the end anyway to wash away any soap suds and hair. So, YABU.

Macbeff · 17/05/2024 11:19

Sharing a towel is absolutely vile.

I don’t do it but can’t get worked up about weeing in the shower. Presumably it just gets washed away almost immediately?

Wakemeup17 · 17/05/2024 11:26

Peeing in the shower is fine, sharing a towel is not (for me).

I agree with this.

Mothership4two · 17/05/2024 11:46

Neither, but suppose wee gets washed away, but still yuk

butterflywingss · 17/05/2024 11:49

People don't share towels ?? That's new to me 😂 I can see why most find it wrong. I tried to stack separate towels but they all mixed up anyway.

DaisyChain505 · 17/05/2024 11:52

Family towels?! What is this complete insanity!

JaceLancs · 17/05/2024 11:53

I don’t pee in the shower but wouldn’t care if someone else does
We all have our own towels although DP will only use his once before washing - I think that’s too wasteful so I reuse mine as does DS

TCThree · 17/05/2024 11:54

Weeing in the shower is worse, someone did explain on here a while back about it but I can't remember.

EmpressSoleil · 17/05/2024 12:42

I don't understand why anyone needs to pee in the shower when the toilet is right there. I think it's disgusting. But then my shower is over the bath and I would not like to go for a relaxing bath knowing the last person peed in it! Even if it was rinsed away. You wouldn't use that logic to pee in the sink where you brush your teeth (I hope!).

We don't share towels either. But I would rather do that (if I had to) than have everyone peeing in the shower!

cerebuswannabe · 17/05/2024 12:43

Who the hell shares towels!

CelesteCunningham · 17/05/2024 12:45

Family bath towel or family hand towel?

Ginkypig · 17/05/2024 12:57

Neither.

if I had to choose though then sharing a towel is absolutely rank!

At least if you pee in the shower while it’s runnng it immediately gets washed down the sink.

i don’t do either, I go for a quick wee before I go for a shower if I think I’ll need before I’m out and dried although I will caveat that by saying I did have to pee in the shower once when I had sciatica so badly I couldn’t get to the toilet in time and thought if I tried I’d end up going on the floor on my way to the toilet part of that was because the bladder had been affected by the sciatica though.

who the hell though wants to rub their skin and hair on a piece of cloth that has not only rubbed someone else’s genitals and arse but is covered in a different persons dead skin flakes.

all clean towels are ok so once it’s been in the machine it belongs to anyone who wants it but once it’s used it’s theirs exclusively until it’s been back in the wash.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 17/05/2024 13:01

Do people actually have their own towels? I mean towels that they use, put away and don't allow anyone else to use them???

AmiShitsaline · 17/05/2024 13:02

Yes I do but that’s not what sharing towels means, it means using a towel that has been used (and not washed) by someone else!

EmpressSoleil · 17/05/2024 13:32

Do people actually have their own towels

We have a couple of wall racks and some hooks so everyone can easily just have their own towel. They don't get put away anywhere, they stay in the bathroom.

zaxxon · 17/05/2024 13:33

Separate towels? We've never done that. People just grab a towel as they need one. Otherwise, how would you keep track of whose is whose?

Notthatcatagain · 17/05/2024 13:42

As a child we had one bath towel and one washcloth per week, everyone used them. I was totally blown away at 13 to visit a friends house and see that that they each had their own. In my home we all have our own, when I buy new, everyone chooses their own colour, absolutely no sharing. Peeing in the shower, please just don't tell me, I don't need to know
