Why do men not age much? I don't get it!!

I’d say early 40s.

It's not bad, but if you’re bothered by it , there’s a lovely Japanese lady on YT that teaches some really good techniques for keeping it ‘firm’.

DappledThings · 17/05/2024 11:39

I have no idea what you think you are seeing, even when you describe it.

I'm 39, thank you for your honesty, it's just this one part pulling down from the middle of my chin, it is really annoying, it wasn't there a few months ago
I will check it out, I appreciate the tip!

I have no idea what you think you are seeing, even when you describe it.

It is a thin piece of skin pulling down from middle of my jaw towards neck, straight on, it looks like 3 lines if that makes sense. It appeared quickly. Can it be reversed? I don't know if weight makes a difference.

I get the concern, OP!
I'm 26 and had always looked young for my age. Been through intense stress for a couple of years and started look mid thirties in my mid twenties.

From your neck I'd have said late twenties/early thirties.

Do you have any history of body dysmorphia or eating disorders?

If you are worried I read that sunscreen on your face and neck helps make your skin look young longer

SpookySpoon22 · 17/05/2024 11:56

I may be wrong but I think you may be feeling bad because you think that it may not have happened if it wasn't for the stress you'd been under. Like maybe it could have been prevented? I also feel that I have aged considerably after several very difficult years. I also used to look young for my age but don't any more. Of course there's no way of knowing for sure as I'm older now than before those stressful years so will have aged naturally in that time. But it does feel like stress sped up the process. I'm trying to see it as part of my story. The stressful events weren't my fault and I couldn't help how I reacted to them at the time. Life isn't easy and none of us are going to make it out alive! So let's not give ourselves and our bodies a hard time about how we fare in the circumstances that come our way. We're all pretty amazing creations to be here in the first place. Just my two cents anyway. And, by the way, I think your neck looks fine!

OneFrenchEgg · 17/05/2024 11:56

Thank you op, I can tell you are struggling. Do take heart from the nice and accurate comments on here and ignore the ridiculous suggestions.
I met someone recently who looked amazing and said it was no alcohol, good sleep and water - she honestly looked half her age. She was adamant though that she worked at it.

Yeah, this is really not noticeable. That's just what necks look like.

RuthW · 17/05/2024 12:19

30's?

They do but they just don't give a shit because they aren't under the same pressure as women about their looks.

Er, hello, baldness! I think we age just as much as women, it's just we're not expected by society to still look like we're 25 when we hit 40.

KnittedCardi · 17/05/2024 12:52

58...... Hate mine. It's annoying because my face is pretty smooth. Very few lines. Some of mine is genetic, some is face shape, the rest is sun damage, as I always had a really reactive neck and sun creams in the 70/80's were really rubbish for sensitive skin, so often didn't use them.

I thought 40 only because you were asking but thought could be anywhere from 25 upwards, it looks fine to me.

😂 just a sagging bit of skin pulling down from the centre of my chin. Honestly I cannot believe how unappreciating of my skin I was when I was younger!

Then appreciate it now! Honestly, there is nothing ‘ageing’ about your neck in those photos.

And believe me, if you are 39 now and upset, when you are 50 you will be distraught.

The way your neck changes in a couple of years around 50 is astounding. There is little you can do about it, short of a neck lift, and that’s a lot of money you could spend on a fabulous experience or pay off your mortgage.

I swear mine started to sag over about a month at 51. The rest of my face is still perfectly taut, and my neck gets the same moisturiser and Tret as the rest.

Please try not to obsess over it; life’s too short.

LordPercyPercy · 17/05/2024 13:56

Ah it's just the neck hinge! Thats what I call mine anyway, it appeared around mid-thirties I think. Perfectly normal although like you I wasn't thrilled to welcome it at the time, but honestly yours is barely noticable and your neck is lovely and smooth with great skin texture.

neck · 17/05/2024 14:19

My neck is the most aged bit of me. Bloody thing.
They were right!
I don't mind, it's who I am. I don't wear polo necks to hide it in the winter, but it is a bonus.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I wish I could! Maybe I'll get there I time. The saggy middle bit has happened in under a year, can stress do this?! I don't know what has happened, but feel I have aged over night.

I understand. I think everyone is looking and seeing no rings, no wrinkles so it looks great. I knew straight away the bit that worried you and I remember that feeling and it has got worse but then I'm 70 now so it has served me well.

It is years since I first had that sinking feeling seeing that sag in the middle. Yours is still mild I'd say but the only thing that helped me was a radio frequency treatment for loose skin, well it was two treatments and mine now doesn't look bad for a 70 year old although worse than yours.

Newestname002 · 17/05/2024 15:25

At the risk of sounding weird, I think you have a lovely neck. I've gone from two or three rolls of fat around my neck to looking a little like a tortoise in the neck area over the last few decades as I've lost weight.

Mine's looking good at the moment but that could, at least partially, be because I'm wearing a thick woollen scarf to ease the pain my shoulder.. still a little massage, upwards from your chest with a little hyaluronic acid won't hurt. 🌹

Miyagi99 · 17/05/2024 15:56

Just be glad you can see it, mine is starting to be hidden by my chins 😂

Didimum · 17/05/2024 16:09

You have to accept ageing, OP. Can you focus instead on changing your mentality rather than hyper focusing on your neck?

cardibach · 17/05/2024 16:11

AROUNDagainCrazy · 17/05/2024 10:06

@SherlockHomies you are completely right. I just feel paranoid about it and would rather know, even if it is unfavourable. I think if it had happened over the space of 5 years gradually, I could deal with it better. It has gone like this within months, after a very stressful event.

Gone like what? It’s a perfectly fine, smooth neck. What are you seeing that you don’t like?

Havett · 17/05/2024 16:15

AROUNDagainCrazy · 17/05/2024 10:12

Thank you for being so kind. It is the middle under my chin, it pulls down, I can feel it pull abit. This has happened so quickly.

@AROUNDagainCrazy I have this! It appeared suddenly too. I’m mid 30s. I’ve asked many people if they’ve noticed and some very close and honest friends say they haven’t. I also wouldn’t have noticed it had I not been looking at your photo in detail. It’s also quite normal anyway. You have great skin too.
