Our lovely FTB 🙄have requested wheelie bins be included after generous discount… many unreasonable requests met!

AIBU to leave dead nan ashes under the floorboards & take the wheel bins as a summer plunge pool for the kids 🫣

I bought an extra large rubbish bin and an extra large recycling bin. They were £90 each so theyre coming with me!

There are a couple of "croydon" stamped bins near me that i assume moved with owners as i dont live in croydon.

Beautiful3 · 17/05/2024 06:23

You're being massively unreasonable. I've moved a few times, and you leave behind the bins! Unless you paid for a second bin, then take the spare.

crochetmonkey74 · 17/05/2024 06:24
  1. It's not a discount you have kindly bestowed on them, it's a negotiated offer you agreed to. You could have walked away
  2. In every move I have ever had, the bins have stayed as standard. The fact these buyers have needed to check suggests that you have been unpredictable about other things.

You're still bound by legalities and decent of selling. Don't be a dick

BobnLen · 17/05/2024 06:25

How much were these bins, do you buy them from the council so they are all the same. we get ours provided free by the council, we can't just use our own bins.

BobnLen · 17/05/2024 06:27

Which council is this that doesn't provide bins.

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/05/2024 06:29

You sound like the people my friend bought her flat from, they took the door handles, light bulbs and light switches. Their biggest dick move however was to try and charge her £500 for an ancient free standing fridge. She refused but said she'd be happy for them to leave it if they didn't want it.

Tne day she moved it she found it dumped in the back garden with the door half ripped off.

Backfromhols · 17/05/2024 06:29

We had to purchase our bins when we moved in so they belong to us not the council. I’ll be taking them when we move.

Therageisreal · 17/05/2024 06:30

Relocate89 · 16/05/2024 23:17

Do people take wheelie bins with them?!

No.

Immemorialelms · 17/05/2024 06:32

I can't work out if OP is lightly trolling us. Maybe not, as there really are idiots who take light bulbs and loo seats and bins and plants. If you really are taking those OP can you explain why? It seems such an odd thing to be petty over the small things when you are selling a house for hundreds of thousands, paying tens of thousands in stamp duty, moving costs etc, and probably getting a mortgage for big chunks of money. When you move it feels like just holding your wallet open for people to help themselves, for a while. But you factor that in, and you factor in replacing stuff, things getting damaged, the tablecloth looks stupid in the new dining room so you get a new tablecloth, blah blah blah. Why obsess over bins?

Iamknackered · 17/05/2024 06:33

I agree with everyone else. You can't take the bins. And don't take the lightbulbs and loo seat either. How petty. I moved into a flat where they took the lightbulbs and tracking down a shop to buy replacements was just yet another thing to do on an exhausting day. It nearly sent me over the edge.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 17/05/2024 06:34

I’m a FTB, it hasn’t even occurred to me to ask for the wheelie bins to be left behind because I just assumed they would be. Never heard of anybody taking the bins with them when they move house. Are you sure it’s the buyers who are the problem here?

Abitorangelooking · 17/05/2024 06:35

Wheelie bins belong to the council where I live, the idea is you leave them with the house. Some householders have 7 bins. 6 x 240l and a 140l it’d take up half a van.

Sellthishousetorhosecunts · 17/05/2024 00:01

Wtf - who pays money for bins and leaves them to greedy buyers!? I would rather ship them off to moody Doris 3 doors down than leave them full of our shit by donating the time, effort and money it took me to order them. Then Doris can tell them I thought they was cheeky fuckers and enjoy not composing her sour grapes

Most people can’t understand why you would have paid for wheelie bins, when they are normally provided by the council and stay with the property. If you can explain that then you might get some more helpful responses.

Although I’m starting to think this thread is a wind up.

BusyMummy001 · 17/05/2024 06:38

The wheelie bins belong to the council and are attached to the property - no-one whose moved in my street has ever take them!

Nottodaythankyou123 · 17/05/2024 06:39

Paperthin · 16/05/2024 23:26

Was your £50 a one off fee when you purchased a new house maybe? I can see why they would make charge but most people would I think assume that when they move the next house will already have bins so leave them behind, it’s a fee for having them emptied really.

We pay to have our garden waste removed by the council, £40 per year, but that doesn’t give us ownership of the bin.

Yeah I think I paid £70 for a full set when I moved into a new build. Wouldn’t dream of taking them with me? Just chalked it up to being an unexpected cost of moving to a new build (assumed the developer would pay!)

Time effort and money? It takes under 5 minutes ffs 😂 you didn’t have to agree to the discount, assuming they didn’t force you at gunpoint 🙄 taking the lightbulbs and toilet seats is incredibly petty too.

Crochetpenguin · 17/05/2024 06:41

In my area you have to buy a recycling bin from the council. Think about £30. We took it with us when we moved a few streets away. Had we moved to a different council with different coloured bins we probably would have left it.

HerkyBaby · 17/05/2024 06:42

if you are moving to somewhere in the same area just make sure that the bins in your new home are the same size as the ones you are leaving behind. General waste bins have been drastically reduced in size where I live so old sized general waste bins are looked upon as a bit of an asset. If this is the case just swop them.

CelesteCunningham · 17/05/2024 06:45

StormingNorman · 17/05/2024 00:16

You pay round our way. £50 per bin or £25 for the little compost bin. Still wouldn’t take them with me though.

Same. Previous owner left hers and then over time the green bin needed to be replaced so we had to pay something in the £50-£100 range for a new one. Would never occur to me to bring it with me if we moved though!

Maybe you should check what your sellers are doing OP, you pettiness could leave you with two sets of bins to store.

Roselilly36 · 17/05/2024 06:46

I bought my wheelie bin, but it wouldn’t have occurred to me to take it when we moved. That’s so tight.

Isitovernow123 · 17/05/2024 06:49

LittleGreenDragons · 16/05/2024 23:17

The wheelie bins stay with the property. They aren't yours, they belong to the council. Where do you do live if you believe they go with you?

Normally I’d totally agree with you but our council have told me I have to pay for a new one as the one at the current property is missing 🤦

boozeclues · 17/05/2024 06:50

I don’t even understand the logistics of taking the bins when you move! What if moving day is the day before bin day and they are full of two weeks worth of shite.

I wouldn’t give a shit if ashes where left under the floorboards, but my house is over a hundred years old so I imagine a few people have died here over the years…

I might take the original beams when I a moved, they are rather lovely 🤣🤣🤣

PrincessTeaSet · 17/05/2024 06:51

Sellthishousetorhosecunts · 16/05/2024 23:44

I’m loving that taking my wheelie bin is unreasonable but popping a teaspoon of nans ashes underneath the floorboards to haunt the tight fuckers hasn’t picked up on…

The only one who cares about your nans ashes is you. They won't even know it's there. I think it's disrespectful to your nan if anything. You are coming across as rather strange

MrsDoubtfire3000 · 17/05/2024 06:52

You sound lovely

Isn't there usually a fixtures and fittings list? Door handles and light switches would surely be on it. And usually it's vacant possession so they could be charged for removal of the fridge. Bizarre
