Our lovely FTB 🙄have requested wheelie bins be included after generous discount… many unreasonable requests met!

AIBU to leave dead nan ashes under the floorboards & take the wheel bins as a summer plunge pool for the kids 🫣

Who doesn't leave wheelie bins? 😳

SilverCatStripes · 17/05/2024 17:51

You sound like a delight OP!

I don’t think it covers the ownership of the bin though it’s the costs associated with delivering a new one. Most councils have small print that says you don’t own the bin, the fee charged covers admin costs of arranging/delivery etc

I think £80 for delivery is a tad excessive then - I’d happily collect a new one!

Woozerbug · 17/05/2024 18:02

I mean more fool you really if you gave a ‘generous discount’ on a house because of a cat flap…

Oh it is! I appreciate it covers the admin costs of getting new homes set up and registered let’s face it, most councils aren’t known for their cost efficiency!

You’re a sad and miserable individual.
Reep as you sow!

The loo seat has to stay by law unless it was already detached or something along the lines of “ it is agreed that the seller will take their loo seat with them” is specified in the contract. Suffice it to say, it is not in a standard form agreement.

LittleGreenDragons · 16/05/2024 23:17

The wheelie bins stay with the property. They aren't yours, they belong to the council. Where do you do live if you believe they go with you?

This is definitely the case where I live and I should think is the case elsewhere in the UK.

Do people take wheelie bins with them?!

Dad did when he and Mum moved. He wheeled tne old ones to the new house to wheel the new ones to his old house.

Bloody hilarious.

Mum almost cried.

Nottherealslimshady · 17/05/2024 08:51

The bins, light bulbs, toilet seats stay. Also, taps, carpets, doors.

We had a seller say he was taking the boards up out the bloody loft once, pathetic.

Also door handles and garden gates!

Hedgeoffressian · 17/05/2024 19:31

It wouldn’t even occur to me to take the wheelie bins 🤷‍♀️

Actually if the move was within bin- wheeling distance I might consider this.

Especially if I were very attached to the comfy, familiar odour of my own.

My council expects us to take them with us but nobody does. They do get stolen if the property is empty for one moment though. I need a larger than usual bin due to medical waste and I've moved 3 times in the last 5 years or so. I've had to pay for a new bin as they've always been nicked and all the recycling ones filled up with trash, plus a waste audit and general waste bin replacing with the larger one. £30 for the 4 new bins and £38 for an audit/big bin - each time. Plus all the associated bin stickers. Every time they say to me "you should have brought them from your old house" like I'm going to bring the slimy bins in the moving van!

So mumsnet has spoken, I’ll leave the bin. As people have suggested, we live in an area which do not provide bins and we’ve purchased it. Our new property doesn’t have one either.

maybe this is a massive drip feed but the discount is for a cat flap that can be seen in pics, seen in person and was negotiated after a survey (which didn’t show much!)

so maybe I’ll leave them nan & the cat.

Why wouldn’t you take them in that case?

If your bins are usable at your new property (due to regulations etc), I’d honestly take them.
Not due to a lack of sympathy or general well wish towards the buyers but simply because it makes sense. Why would you leave them behind only to buy new bins for your new property??

(But leave your grandmama and kitty out of it! Although I suspect this was tongue in cheeck Wink )

HulaChick · 18/05/2024 07:57

Wheelie bins are provided by council for the property, not the owner. They are not yours to take, surely? You'll inherit the bins at your new house and, if not, the council in your new place will provide them.

NZBride · 18/05/2024 17:41

Wheelieusefulbinlover · 16/05/2024 23:19

Not every council provides wheelie bins for free. Mine doesn't, we had to order ours for £50 each! I paid for them, they're mine to take with me like my garden furniture

Yeah I had to pay for mine too!!

PerkySnail · 18/05/2024 17:46

The bins belong to the council regardless of you buying them. I wasn't happy paying for our bin when we recently moved into rental property. Think the last owner took it with them! I waited 16 weeks for it to arrive. We had to go to the recycling centre 3 times a week to throw our rubbish! But when we moved out, we will leave the bin behind!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 18/05/2024 17:50

@PerkySnail nope. When the council tell you to source and pay for your own wheelie bins, they are most definitely yours and not the councils. If they provide them and ask you to pay an admin and delivery fee, then that is very different. Unfortunately not all councils operate the same way, consequently mine go with me when we move.

We have to pay similar for ours but still the conditions are that they don’t belong to you and are kind of ‘rented’. They have to stay if you move

dcthatsme · 18/05/2024 17:55

Haha I'd take them with if these people have really annoyed you but bear in mind they take up a huge amount of space so might require a bigger removals van?

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 18/05/2024 18:00

My friend’s just bought a house and I was very bemused (and thought immediately of this thread) that sellers have taken bins with them! Well… they’ve taken 2. The third one (brown so I assume garden stuff) as I pointed out, they have converted into a water butt, complete with tap 🙄

Edit: Brown is for recycling there! I guess water collection kind of counts as recycling!

Fit nicely and brilliant transport and storage for tall plants. Went in the car.

petelacey · 18/05/2024 18:04

The wheelie bins are not yours. They belong to the local Council. They are also part of the property you are selling. They stay with the property.

WhenWillTheSunShineIWonder · 18/05/2024 18:05

Nobody takes the bins, they are owned by the council!

No the OP bought them - they aren't provided by her council

NoDought · 18/05/2024 18:08

Eh, I would never think of taking a wheelie bin when I moved house, do people do this?
