I saw on the BAFTA’s the other night that she got some special award and I was genuinely wondering does anyone like her? I’ve never known anyone who does so I wanted to ask on here.
Personally I have no idea how she’s kept a job on tv for so long and can only assume that she’s got a lot of dirt on people. In her acceptance speech she thank her Mum for her work ethic which I thought was quite funny as she only does 4 hours a week if she feels like it. Not to mention the whole tax avoidance thing. Just curious

She didn't avoid tax, HMRC got it wrong. Same as they did with Kaye Adams. HMRC needs a big shake up.

IR35 was brought in to capture all these TV presenters who can't be replaced with someone else, but lawyers have successfully argued TV presenters are a persona not the person so it doesn't apply. If that's the case, when I am employed to do a job, they pay for what I know, not me as a person so it shouldn't apply to me either, but it does. It's complete BS and is a tax dodge.

Ref Kelly @Dita73 I agree. However, she works more than 4 hours a day...

You are wrong about the purpose of IR35 and wrong about the entire nature of these engagements.
If you really believe it's such an easy thing - try going freelance.

HauntedPencil · 16/05/2024 10:58

If it helps I really like Rod Stewart and Gordon Brown

HauntedPencil · 16/05/2024 10:58

The lady from Texas - she was Scottish wasnt she. Very nice

raspberryberet7 · 16/05/2024 10:59

How do you know she only works four hours a week? She appears on tv four hours a week doesn't mean that's all she works.

Why do women insist on starting threads just to pull other women down???

What obsession?

Your constant references to Scotland such as: 'It's unacceptable to dislike a person simply because they are Scottish or to dislike all Scottish people.' , when OP hasn't referenced her being Scottish at all.

I'm lead to believe it's how some people lift try to themselves up.

I cannot bear her. I imagine her shows are transmitted into care homes and waiting rooms, where no-one has access to the remote control. YANBU OP.

Helps what?

Helps Scottish people feel better that they are not hated because of Lorraine Kelly? 😂

I have met her a couple of times(and featured in a magasine shoot with her). She is lovely, funny and genuine. An issue with clothing happened (a brand they needed her to wear) and she was firm but so polite while she got it checked. She can stand up for herself which she will have needed to in her career but also is able to chat to people and make them feel at ease.

She's very pleasant and put me at ease when I met her on a magazine shoot where I also featured alongside her in a photo (Saturday supplement to a broadsheet). Was it the same one @Hippywannabe? I expected Lorraine to be an egocentric monster as many TV presenters can be. There was also a well-known feminist radio presenter present, who was quite bad-tempered and grand. Someone I had long admired. Usually I'd expect the radio presenter to be lovely and not the TV presenter so I was quite surprised when it turned out to be the reverse on this occasion.

I think you're referring to my comment.
My description of the LK included the word Scottish.
I was then asked if we 'weren't allowed to hate Scottish people'?
I replied that of course you can hate a person who happens to be Scottish, for a whole host of reasons, but also clarified that it's probably not ideal to hate someone just for being Scottish.

I didn't suggest being Scottish makes people likeable.

I also pointed out that the 'och aye' comment was uncalled for.

This seems to have confused some people.

HMRC did get it wrong - the Judge confirmed that - also the whole question is about much more than just tax - the biggest tax savings accrue to the organisation engaging her in nay case.

Not true. Lorraine Kelly avoided way more in income tax by declaring herself a consultant not an employee than ITV saved in employers national insurance. By her being a consultant not an employee, both she and her employer saved tax.

She turns up to ITV studios and presents a program on their behalf. The average person on the street would see her as an employee and both her and ITV could treat her as such very easily. They’d have to pay the same sort of tax rates that every other employee / employer do though so they avoided that by a contractor construct. It’s avoidance. Legal. Immoral.

HesterRoon · 16/05/2024 11:44

I can’t understand this. I get people starting hate threads on others who are truly dreadful at what they do, rip people off or only got their position due to who they’re related to-but Lorraine Kelly is pretty inoffensive isn’t she?

frankentall · 16/05/2024 11:44

Can you post the figures you're basing this on please?

So if a builder turns up at your house and spends several months constructing something for you, he's your employee?
