office wear

I work in an office and the majority of the peole wear casual and by that I mean jeans and t shirts and trainers. I always dress smart for work. Some who have tatoos wear short sleeves and show huge tattoos down each arm. I do not think that is appropriate for the office. I really wish i worked for a company who has a strict dress code wehre the women have to wear smart trousers and jackets and dresses and skirts and the men have to wear shirts and trousers and maybe a suit. I could not go to work looking sloppy even if there is no dress code

@Flute56

It's tattoos!!!!!!!

Flute56 · 17/05/2024 14:33

I think a blazer makes an outfit smart so even leggings and flats if you team them with a blazer you will look smart

No you won't. You'll look fine, but you won't look SMART

bit rich to moan about people not looking smart enough then go on to say you think leggings, flats, jumper and a blazer is smart 😬

Sorry but leggings a jumper and a blazer is not in any way shape or form smart.

Ita a bizarre combination that would look frumpy and wrong

I find high heels uncomfortable

So it’s OK for you to dress down in areas that are uncomfortable for you, but if anyone else does the same for areas uncomfortably for them, they are sloppy. Is that right?

Nothing makes leggings look smart. They are basically thick tights with no skirt over the top.

I feel that people are being deliberately unkind to the OP, whose style of writing suggests to me that they may have some additional needs. Her views are a bit outdated, but not offensive and don't deserve the nastiness she is getting here.

I just wrote a dress code for my workplace that specified no jeans, hoodies or open-toed shoes. Some of you would spontaneously combust working with me!

Out of pure curiosity, how have you came to this conclusion?:

whose style of writing suggests to me that they may have some additional needs.

Actually it is offensive and judgemental, the constant reference to tattoos shows that she thinks there is something wrong with them.

She keeps mentioning tattoos or tatoos as she said, in a derogatory manner, that's offensive!

So OP can tell me my tattoos are shit but I can't tell her that her outfit of leggings, flats and a blazer sound horrific? Err no. Her outfit sounds horrific. She doesn't sound like she has additional needs at all, she just sounds like an out of touch, conservative of thought whingebag.

Leggings are not smart.

I also think blazers can look dated.

i know people have tatoos but cover them up at work. I know someone who works in an office and she was told to wear very smart casual. No jeans no trainers. When I was flat sharing many years ago my flat mate worked in the insurance industry and had to wear tights no bare legs. Also if you go into the ctity of London and see what the men wear. Most of tem are in suits with cuflinks and ties. . In fact I walked past a bar after work and two men were wearing pin striped suits

I work in the City and since coming back to the office it is a lot more casual.

Dont think I have wore smart work shoes for years. Sometimes I wear jeans, sometimes work trousers, sometimes a dress, depends on my mood

Thank goodness that the days of managers thinking that casual dress means casual attitude is over

Flute56 · 17/05/2024 17:30

I went somewhere and wore leggings with flat shoes, a shirt and a sleeveless v neck sweater over the top of the shirt. Someone looked at me and said your outfit is lovely you look very nice!

DaisyChain505 · 17/05/2024 17:33

Moral of the story OP is that everyone has their own style and opinion of what they like and what they think is comfortable and also that you shouldn’t be judging people by what they look like or choose to wear but how they are as a person.

I also own a black velvet dress which I wore to a funeral recently again, with pearls

Last funeral I went to I wore a bright red dress. I'm sure my friend was looking down and smiling as she would have loved it.

Nice is not synonymous with smart.

Yep. My friend wanted everyone wearing green at her funeral and it was fabulous to see such bright vibrant colours rather than black.

I have a jewish friend. She has to dress appropriately according to her religion. They cannot wear trousers and skirts have to be well below their knees. Does this make them any more religious. Someone posted on here about pearls and yes I own a string of pearls and wear them on the appropriate occasion, When you see Government Ministers they are always dressed very formally. The prime minister always wears a suit and a tie. The head teacher of a school always wears formal clothing. When would you ever see a head teacher turning up to run a school wearing jeans or leggings or a t shirt showing tatoos on arms,

Then become Jewish and move to work in a school or the government (although the Prime Minister doesn't always wear a tie... female PMs don't. Just to be picky)

And yes you do see teachers with tattoos. So long as they aren't offensive or inappropriate

TatToos BTW. Three Ts
