Nearly cried at the change in weather

spanieleyes22 · 13/05/2024 21:12

I felt so much better at the end of last week with the sunshine and even this morning was happy hanging the washing out . Until the rain set in again and I checked the long term forecast and it's to stay showery and under .20 degrees until mid June now. Can't help it. Just feel really depressed. I was so happy pottering in the garden and getting a bit of sun. Anyone else struggling.

OP posts:

The comments about enjoying a few days of sunshine and being slightly perplexed about the moaning about these few days are not aimed at the people that have medical conditions.

ShiftySquirrel · 14/05/2024 22:31

I love feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin, not having a fire lit nor heating on in the evenings. I like wearing less and what does get worn can be washed and dried with ease. I eat less stodge and move more on bright days and I also, most definitely, get more done when the sun is shining and the light evenings are here.

I've always lived in the UK, and do like the changeableness of the seasons and weather here. But too long of anything gets boring - this year has been far too grey and rainy (and followed a grey, wet summer and autumn), but I have been known to get fed up of a heat wave too!

Delatron · 14/05/2024 22:44

If it was sunny and hot for 9 months of the year I sure as hell wouldn’t moan when we finally had a few days of rain. Get it?

I’d relish the change.

Definitely

I'm usually first to complain about the heat and I'm actually allergic to it (medicated now)
It must have been shit weather for a long time as despite being a sun avoider I virtually threw myself into the garden just to feel some warmth Grin
Even the cat (looking confused) ventured out with me

How dare you. Heat affects people (myself included) due to various disabilities, just because it doesnt affect you doesnt mean you get to sit here and mock us.

I will reply again as my previous post was deleted and I’ll rephrase it.

No-one has mentioned disabilities except you. If you want to argue with anyone off you pop to another thread to find something else to be mortally offended by and find someone else to argue with.

Your post reminded me of Catherine Tate btw “how very dare you” 😂

HÆLTHEPAIN · 15/05/2024 08:17

I don’t moan. I just try and do my best to mitigate the effects. I’ve got air conditioning being installed next week, for example. And I do like it when it’s warm and sunny so I can sit in the garden - just anything too hot makes my life a bit limited and I get ill. And unfortunately that’s anything over about 20. It’s tiresome when people think you’re weird for not being comfortable in the heat. My daughter’s the same and she’s not ill (or obese). Maybe it’s because we’re both pale. It doesn’t affect my husband and son at all and they both tan.

I get what OP is saying though. And I understand why she feels the way she does.

Delatron · 15/05/2024 08:48

I don’t think anyone is disputing that some people cannot tolerate the heat.

The issue is it’s been exceptionally wet for a very long time. We didn’t have much of a summer last year. Spring was a wash out. We are now in mid May and this has been the first bit of pleasant weather. So a few days of sunshine and a bit of warmth was very welcome and if you didn’t like it then it went away again very quickly. Seems strange to pop on to such a thread and say how much you hate the heat. It was a couple of days and it’s gone now.

Now if we were in the throes of an endless heatwave I’d understand some complaining.

Like I said. I like the sun and warmth. But if it had been sunny and warm
for 9 months and it rained for 2 days. I wouldn’t pop on to a thread celebrating the rain saying how down it made me. Because that would be crazy. It’s 2 days.. And I would get a very short shrift. And quite rightly.

UnpickThePockets · 15/05/2024 08:55

I walked to the gym at 5.45 this morning and it was bloody lovely to be dressed in just a light jacket and not hoodie, raincoat, cap etc.

Strolled there and enjoying the brief appearance of blue skies (clouded over now 😡). So much nicer than arriving damp, soggy and irritable.

BRING ON A SCORCIO SUMMER!

I popped on to read (as you do on forums) and then noticed and responded to the comment about how people are bizarre for not liking an increase in heat. That is what I responded to. Not that I don’t understand how why OP feels the way they do. Or that I was complaining about the heat. I merely offered an explanation about why some people aren’t bizarre for the heat affecting them the way it does me. Stop making things up.

I have enjoyed the last few days of nice weather. Like I said I’ve been able to sit in my garden and as there’s been a breeze here it’s not been too bad for me.

FoxRedPuppy · 15/05/2024 09:36

I am overweight, but I haven’t always been. And I’ve always hated the heat. Because I have very pale skin, green eyes and I hate the brightness. It hurts my eyes! Also hate the constant sun cream application. I am not someone with a skin care routine, so it adds a massive faff to my life.

I’ve always been someone that sweats a lot too, and just seem to be warmer than most. I don’t wear a coat as often as others I know!

I like sunshine and blue skies.

I completely get why people love heat, I don’t really understand why they understand the rest of us.

RampantIvy · 15/05/2024 16:00

Do you not wear sunglasses when it is bright @FoxRedPuppy?

greengreyblue · 15/05/2024 17:00

I live in sunglasses, even in winter if it’s bright. Great accessory.

reenlakm · 15/05/2024 17:20

It’s been beautiful here today, sunny and not a cloud in the sky. My app is even now saying that after tomorrow, it’s sunny every day for the next 10 days ☀️☀️

Me too! I’m often sporting them in the shower when I forget to take them off.😂 I do wonder if our pale skin has something to do with it all too.

Lincslady53 · 15/05/2024 17:59

This time last year there was a thread that someone started saying they were dreading a really hot summer following on from 2022, they must have been in the South as in the NW it wasn't anything out of the ordinary in 22. So they jinxed last summer, lets hope you haven't done the same to this year and we are in for a few weeks of summer this year.

CauliflowerBalti · 15/05/2024 19:04

I don’t mind the grey, I’m fine with the cool - but the relentless rain is really getting me down and I had no idea how much it had been affecting me until the brief respite we just had. I’ve been like a different woman. Like you, I’ve looked at just how long it is set to rain for again and I’m feeling pretty glum.

I wouldn’t say I’m a heat lover, or a sun lover. I’m pale and freckly, sunglasses and hat are essentials to avoid sunstroke and heatstroke. But the weather we just had was temperate and lovely.

MumMRM · 15/05/2024 20:17

God, I hate the hot weather & dreading the summer! Roll on September / autumn!

Middleagedspreadisreal · 15/05/2024 20:27

Yep. Love being in the garden. Hate the bloomin rain and dullness!

fetchacloth · 15/05/2024 21:58

The weather doesn't normally settle until June so I wouldn't worry about it yet.
If the weather remains unsettled into July that's the signal for it staying that way until late August/September 🙃.

KitsyWitsy · 15/05/2024 22:12

Cast ne’er a clout, till May is out!

greengreyblue · 15/05/2024 22:14

Yes that’s what my DM always said- I’ve never forgotten it!

Scubanicki · 15/05/2024 22:22

They cannot predict the weather with any certainty a month in advance. Also there is absolutely nothing you can do about it, so not worth getting annoyed about.

This refers to the May flower.

Halfamillionquid · 13/05/2024 21:13

I know, it's really hard. I always say summer never really gets going until after midsummer's day weirdly

Where I am it’s usually better in May than the rest of the summer so this year is really depressing!

We usually go abroad at May half term but are going to St David’s this year-it currently says it will be 13 degrees. 13!! Am checking out the cancellation policy and last minute deals 😭

Umidontknow · 16/05/2024 07:49

This winter has been never ending, we have horses and the mud has been horrible, their field has flooded regularly- even they where miserable 😒 just when it looks to be getting better it bloody pisses down again doesn't it! Normally I like the cooler weather but this is just silly. It's having a huge effect on business and events that rely on better weather too. I'm sure in a couple of months it will be 40°c and we will all be melting though 😆
