Nearly cried at the change in weather

spanieleyes22 · 13/05/2024 21:12

I felt so much better at the end of last week with the sunshine and even this morning was happy hanging the washing out . Until the rain set in again and I checked the long term forecast and it's to stay showery and under .20 degrees until mid June now. Can't help it. Just feel really depressed. I was so happy pottering in the garden and getting a bit of sun. Anyone else struggling.

It’s spring, what do you expect. I find it weird anyone lives their lives by the weather, or lets it affect their mood.

I mean you can't really help be affected when it has rained, and rained and rained
It's not me letting it affect it as a conscious choice but it was so nice to have a couple of days of feeling warmth and not being under an umbrella and drenched

shearwater2 · 14/05/2024 13:38

It will be sunny again in a few days. I'm just glad it's not cold. It was amazing to be able to be out in the garden all weekend, it was he first weekend I've been able to do that. We normally get some nice weekends before mid May.

I'd be happy for the weather to be exactly as it was at the weekend with rain every few days so I don't have to keep watering everything.

This! It was pleasantly warm, not hot. I don’t like heat but I loved the weather last weekend

I live in a flat. Top floor so all the heat from flats below rises. With windows only on one side so no through draft possible and the windows are west facing so the flat just gets hotter and hotter throughout the day as the sun moves round then sets and it barely cools down overnight as the building holds the heat. I have blackout curtains that help a bit.

I wake at 4am and it was 25 degrees in my bedroom yesterday morning even though I'd had the fan on all night and the temp outside was 12 degrees. Fans can only move the available air around, if the air is warm/hot it just moves around the hot air.

It doesn't have to be trolling for some people to be particularly effected by the hot weather.

When we had the grass-fire heatwave two years ago, it was consistently for days over 30 degrees inside my flat. It was miserable.

Chipsahoy · 14/05/2024 13:47

Scotland must have your good weather. It’s been sunny or very warm for two weeks now where I am.
Can you get outside anyway? I love a walk in the rain even as long as it’s mild. Also pottering in the garden with the sound of bird song is amazing even if it’s cloudy.

Try not to be depressed about weather: obviously something no one can control.

But I hope this helps-

SAD is really odd, it affects so many people both in summer and winter. Mine affects me in winter and I think it’s more about learning to manage it tbh. I was diagnosed 11 years ago after years of wondering what the hell was wrong with me in winter.

Mine affects me in summer when it's just too bright - something to do with melatonin, IIRC. I was very relieved to find out that summer SAD is actually real and not just me.

My sister is badly affected in summer with SAD, she can’t stand the brightness either. It’s become a bit of joke between us she hibernates in summer, I hibernate in winter but the autumn suits us both 😂.

Really? I remember lots of scorching May Day bank holidays! We haven't had spring yet to my mind!!

We have had scorching May’s and some really cold ones. I was born in May several years ago and it was snowing when I was born. My poor mum thought she was hallucinating but my DH says it was just Hell freezing over when I mention it! May is really changeable. I have done days off booked in June and really would like some dry and fine weather.

thecatsthecats · 14/05/2024 16:14

Heads up to those with issues sleeping in the heat - there's a very good room cooler in Lidl at the moment. You put ice cubes/cooler water in and it knocks 2 degrees off.

DrCoconut · 14/05/2024 16:38

It's so disappointing. We were finally able to take the hoodies off and getting out to the park and the kids loved it. It was 21 here so just into nice and warm territory, no heatwave conditions. I'm really achy today and I'm sure the fluctuating temperature doesn't help.

DrCoconut · 14/05/2024 16:43

@OldTinHat Christmas is the most socially expecting event of the year and it's in winter. No one expects the perfect family get together, work do, hobby club do etc within a few days in July.

Calliecarpa · 14/05/2024 16:54

I absolutely love, love, love to see a blue sky. It doesn't have to be that warm particularly (though it's great if it is!), it's just the blue sky that lifts my spirits. The last few months have been so constantly cloudy, it feels claustrophobic to me.

Looking at the long-term forecast on the Met Office site, it actually doesn't look that bad to me. As PP have said though, it's really hard to predict more than a few days in advance, so I'm hoping we get lots of lovely weather again soon!

I live in the north, and honestly, the number of people in my town who moan 'It's too 'ot for me!' if the temperature goes higher than about 18 is absolutely unbelievable. Hard to believe that anyone prefers lashing rain, endless cloud and constantly feeling cold, but apparently they do. 😐

Equivo · 14/05/2024 13:22

You cannot seriously be unaware of the effects of climate change and records being broken month after month after month?!

Of course - I’m not saying climate change is great by wanting a few days of sun or a reasonable summer for the farmers. The endless rain that everyone loves is down to climate change.

Records being broken is not the same as good weather!!

I feel your pain. Where I live also holds heat like crazy. The insulation is super in the winter and does save me money on the heating. But in the hot nights, it's unbearable. I can get a through breeze, but it's still stifling. Even in the winter, I have to have the heating off at night because it gets stuffy as anything.

That said, I still love summer!

No, but Christmas is one event in winter. Covering a few days or more if you're someone that gets invited to lots of parties.

But summer or even just sunny weather is a few possible months of "you MUST make the most of it. If you're not having holidays, days out, barbecues, meet ups in the park, pub garden meet ups etc etc or just "loving the weather in the garden" then you're just not MAKING THE MOST OF THE WEATHER"

Social expectations increase dramatically in the summer/nice weather.

DrCoconut · 14/05/2024 17:37

@BePinkReader I just don't find that to be the case for me. I never get invited to barbecues, garden parties etc. Everyone who can clears off on holiday and leaves the rest of us to it socially. But I have a very limited social calendar anyway.

Delatron · 14/05/2024 17:46

Surely you can just say no to all the parties, BBQS, weddings and festivals and stay at home with the curtains closed? Nobody forces you out to socialise.

I find Christmas and the lead up to it far more exhausting in a social way it’s all concentrated in December. Plus loads of illnesses flying around.

Iamawomenphenominally · 14/05/2024 17:53

I understand op. The brighter days really lift me too. I feel like there's been rain nearly every day for far too long. Those few dry bright days were bliss!

MarriedMama23 · 14/05/2024 12:47

How dare you. Heat affects people (myself included) due to various disabilities, just because it doesnt affect you doesnt mean you get to sit here and mock us.

You do realise the cold and rain affects people with disabilities too, right?

MumbleOrange · 14/05/2024 18:03

Thursday to Monday we have half-suns and 18/19C. I can live with that. I am lucky in that weather doesn’t bother me that much. I don’t get too unhappy in the rain or too excited in the sun. I worry about crops though.

Delatron · 14/05/2024 18:04

And the cold and rain goes on for far longer. Many people really suffer in the cold.

Almost everything I do for fun is weather dependent.

I don't know why I live in England though
