If you own a ranger rover

Is it on finance? Just wondering how many people actually buy then outright? They are my dream car and although I could finance a monthly payment I could never buy one outright! How much do you have to earn for that?! I’m on 89k for context

It won’t be your dream car after you get one and it’s never out of the bloody garage

Yesfrepp · 12/05/2024 21:56

@Duvetdweller 😂😂 but they look glorious!

buffyslayer · 12/05/2024 21:58

I would say a very large amount are on finance or leased from info from my job

StoneAgeRed · 12/05/2024 21:58

Why anyone drives these Wanker Panzers is beyond me. People seem to get their self esteem from their car

Angeldelight50 · 12/05/2024 21:58

I’d guess most cars on the road these days are financed, not just Range Rovers.

Eyesopenwideawake · 12/05/2024 21:58

I used to have (an old one). Loved it - I could get 11 bales of hay and three dogs in it at the same time! Plus it was like driving an armchair 😂

@StoneAgeRed that is so true 😂😂 sadly I think that is me 🤦🏼‍♀️

Most nicked car here - not sure why anyone would buy one

pastaandpesto · 12/05/2024 22:01

What is it you like about them, OP? To me they just scream Utter Knob, more than any other car on the road I think! I completely understand it's subjective though!

fashionqueen0123 · 12/05/2024 22:01

The recent posts I’ve seen on local groups about them, are people complaining no one will insure them. Not even the company itself! They’re nicked so often it’s become a joke. One woman said she was selling up as she can’t pay for insurance.

Redglitter · 12/05/2024 22:02

They're the most stolen cars at the moment. A lot are pretty much uninsurable - even with Land Rover

I dont know why anyone would want one

Skihound · 12/05/2024 22:03

I've never had such frequent use and value out of a warranty as I had with my Range Rover - I was on 1st name terms with local RR assistance man.

supercalafragilisticexpealidocious · 12/05/2024 22:04

I don't own one but I love them too. I'm
Not a car person at all but something about a Range Rover I really love. I think it's the shape and the styling. They look so elegant to me. Out of our price range though. We are going to buy a discovery though (not as pretty!)

Heatherbell1978 · 12/05/2024 22:04

God I hate them. Judging by the people driving them where I live, yes they're leased and it seems standard that if you own one you're entitled to park in a disabled space, a double yellow, a parent and child space and genuinely just think you're above everyone else.

I must live in an area with a very high proportion of tossers because that sort of behaviour isn't specific to Range Rover owners round here. I challenged a woman parked in a baby and child bay the other day as I unloaded my two toddlers and massive bump from the car across the car park and was told she had kids "somewhere in the world" 🙄

PossumintheHouse · 12/05/2024 22:06

95% are leased. The insurance is sky high. You look like an idiot.

FawnFrenchieMum · 12/05/2024 22:07

My boss has one, bought out right! He’s had a nightmare getting it insured this year though. He’s a c-suite level of a company. I’d imagine the car value is the same relative value to his salary as mine (ford kuga 😂)

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 12/05/2024 22:09

I think most people who have fancy cars have them on finance. Many will be business leases or company cars so slightly different.

Even if you can afford it... what about the additional holidays (or other item of enjoyment) you could have for that annual cost? You could even look at retiring earlier.

Also, it will break. And when it breaks, JLR won't look after you. And your insurance will go up or be cancelled. And it is extremely likely to get stolen. You may as well burn the money. And your hopes and dreams.

Roryhon · 12/05/2024 22:09

We have one because we live rurally and need to tow. But ours is old. Bought outright but might as well be on finance because it needs so much fixing - and that’s just parts, my husband is a mechanic!

buffyslayer · 12/05/2024 22:11

There is a security update for anyone who has one.. you should get a letter but you can check on the MOT site for recalls too

Some insurance companies are asking that it's done. Probably 50% of the people we are telling it's available aren't booking jt

glasgow1983 · 12/05/2024 22:11

Most cars these days are on PCP or lease deals (or a lot of cars anyway, I'm not familiar with exact statistics).

In a way, it means that the price/rrp is largely irrelevant. The PCP/lease monthly price is paying only for the depreciation over 3 or 4 years.

This means that so-called premium car brands can actually be affordable, although you do need to plan for what happens in 3-4 years once the finance is up.

We've gone for a four year deal recently on a so-called premium EV, with option to buy. It's quite the commitment, we've been able to do it without significantly impacting our financial goals. We're so glad we did it.

Heatherbell1978 · 12/05/2024 22:11

@supercalafragilisticexpealidocious I use a gym where it's common to see a row of Range Rovers parked in the disabled spaces (no blue badges) and spend the entire time there listening to the reception staff calling reg plates over the tannoy to move their cars. They all ignore it of course because you know, they're entitled to park wherever they want. The entitlement drives me up the wall. I actually used to quite like them, nice looking cars, but now I just associate them with wankers.

Femme2804 · 12/05/2024 22:11

I love my range rover. I drove evoque now and next year gonna change for velar. My car insured just fine. I live in cambridge though not in london. So i dont know how hard to insured RR in london. I love my car, it was my dream car and iove it everyday. I’m with finance aswell only £250 per month. Not much. It is 2014 evoque. Bought as second hand car in 2015. So its pretty new when i bought it. I put big downpayment.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 12/05/2024 22:16

OP,
I am safely assuming you are talking about the real "Range Eover" and not the little efforts that carry the badge

If you have a brand new one and the warranty, you should be ok as long as they give you a similar car as it is a very sophisticated car and a lot to go wrong

The proper Ranger Rover has a good presence and easy to drive effortlessly on the open roads and the comfort and feel good, feeling is second to none IMO, SUV wise

boozeclues · 12/05/2024 22:16

Most are on finance… I used to see them parked outside houses worth not more than double the price…

I live semi rural now, and it’s a real mix of those who use them as a status thing (but are living in multi pound houses) and finance them, and the farmers who own really old ones and are mostly pissed when driving them.

if you haven’t got an
