To be angry so many girls schools are going Co-Ed?

1000 replies

FaeryRing · 12/05/2024 20:38

Yet again it’s been proven girls do better in single sex schools (I have a son as well as a daughter so please don’t think I’m ’hating on boys’).

https://amp.theguardian.com/education/article/2024/may/12/girls-do-better-in-exams-at-all-girls-schools-than-mixed-research-finds

In my hometown growing up there were 4 girls schools. 1 grammar, 1 private, and 2 regular secondaries, meaning pretty much all parents regardless of background had access to single sex education for their daughters if they wanted it.

2 have announced their plans to go Co-Ed, with 1 already having done so, leaving just 1 (the grammar, so working class girls will be inherently disadvantaged). This seems to be a pattern across the country.

AIBU to be angry this is happening? Can’t girls have anything to themselves?

@FaeryRing
So you only wanted to hear from those who would agree with you?
You actually thought you could say the things you did about boys and nobody would challenge it?
You've assumed things about me and continually made pointless and baseless accusations. Have you never met someone who has challenged you in any way before?

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 14/05/2024 22:45

FaeryRing · 14/05/2024 22:35

Made up 😂 I have personal experience, studies, a vested interest as a I have a young daughter… what have you posted? Feeble allusions that you won’t evidence, zero personal experience and just ‘sob sob so mean to my son… no you’re making things up sob sob’

Is this how you think grown adults debate? None of what you have written here is even close to a factual account.

No, I want to hear from people with experience (in bold as you seem to conveniently overlook it every time)
Challenge it all you like, as somebody with far less experience of this topic than me I don’t care what you think and don’t feel compelled to listen to you.

Studies are not factual? My own experience isn’t factual? Whereas yours is because… you have a son? No daughters? Didn’t go to girls school? Know nothing about them? Seriously, you’re utterly deluded and post the same shite over and over as you have nothing to say!

We could say the same to you.

Yet here we are.

You could try but I have contributed to the discussion of the thread title whereas as you’re just here to whinge about your sons.

I’m not the one being obtuse. These schools already exist. Education per pupil aged 5-16 will cost the state £7690 in 2024-5. Whether they’re educated in y or z building, SS or coed makes no difference.

Of course it will.

If you open up new single sex schools for girls you have 2 instead of one and empty classrooms in both at that. Bills are lower in less schools- that is why girls schools in the private sector are reducing. They are approaching boys schools and joining to save money and survive.

FaeryRing · 14/05/2024 22:50

Anyway. Despite 96% of the posts on this thread being from the same boy mum who has zero experience of girls schools, it’s a relief to see about half of the population think they should remain open (if the votes are anything to go by!).

It’s been interesting to read all the experiences of ex girls school pupils on here, a shame to read about the bad ones and very uplifting to read about the positive.

We are very committed to single sex schooling for DD so will be shopping around over the next year or two to see what looks the best fit for her. Hopefully some will still be open!

And fab news that PP’s daughters school will be staying single sex - glad to see some are still hanging in there.

It's ok, I understand, you wanted to hear from other folk who were angry that their girls SS school was closing and how their daughters cannot possibly be educated alongside these inferior boys.

The rest of us won’t be ignoring her. You don’t get to dictate. Wow what kind of mean girls behaviour is this?

Try really hard to get your head around the idea that these schools already exist, and no-one is talking about opening new ones. 😆

You can do what you like. That poster is, I’m sure, welcome to stay on topic. Although as she has no experience of the subject under discussion, her contribution might be limited.

Well I’d say there are a fair few of posters with limited experience on this thread going by the sweeping generalisations of comprehensive schools and boys.

I was wondering if this was the result of a typical SS girls school education, but I'm sure some other SS educated women have been much better at expressing themselves (even when we don't agree), so I'm trying not to jump to conclusions (unlike some folk). I'm not 100% sure what sort of school OP attended tbh.

I think it’s verging on bullying and really unpleasant behaviour. I’d report.

Maybe not but there are quite a few across the country.

There aren't many. People aren't going to send their children far across the country to a co-ed grammar if there is a single sex on nearby but it doesn't mean they prefer single sex schools.

They will as there is demand for them. There’s a corollary demand for boys’ only schools too and I support that for those who want it.

OP has been attempting to police the thread for quite a while, insults, false accusations, posting assumptions as fact, telling posters who to ignore etc.
It's all there in black and white.

Many people relocate specifically to for catchment area. If you have preference for coed grammar that can be factored in.

Except the stats you choose to ignore show otherwise. They are reducing in rapid numbers as was highlighted in the link you chose to only share half of and what the whole point of the thread was.

Rubbish many people aren’t that nuts. We put up with the single sex grammar as opppsed to an hours school run or moving- big mistake.

And we’re back to NABALT, which is no more the topic of the thread than comprehensives.
