To ask … where sells nice clothes for little boys?

When DS was a baby and younger toddler I went high end: JoJo, Boden, Fat Face even, to get nice clothes that weren’t covered in dinosaurs.

He is now 3 and I’m struggling a bit. Supermarkets are dominated by black, grey and khaki or garish colours and dinosaurs still prevail. (DS has no real interest in them.)

Wondering where I might not have looked as I could do with updating his summer wardrobe. I don’t want him to look like a girl but just not dull stuff or ugly stuff!

I loved mini-boden for quirky t-shirts that reflected his genuine interests not what people thought boys should be interested in (he's got one about the structure of a flower, volcano types &c). Tbh though, you've not got long until he starts to have his own opinions about his aesthetic! My 18m old already has decided that she's all about 80s colour blocking but my son at 3 was starting to want his own ideas reflected in what he wore.

The general point though is that boys clothes are depressingly limited in vision in general. On the other hand, at least they don't get told to 'be kind' against a background of glittery unicorns...

I liked sainsburys when he was little bit after age 2/3 it's all a bit dinosaurs and trucks.

Nice things to be had at H&M, Next, M&S, some Frugi (I'm not a fan of the really busy patterns). I also like Vinted and there are good handmade clothing groups on Facebook.

Ds is 4.
We use Zara a lot for basics. They do nice knitted leggings and cardigans also.
I buy pj and underwear form petite bateau in sales
Babyshop, Alex and Alexa or smallable for other brands. I like Kuling for outdoor gear in nice colours. Liewood also for nice extras

I try not to Dress in too many prints or blue top to bottom. He’s often in yellows and burnt red or greens.

I do shop in the girls sections also. He doesn’t wear floral and pink, but for example Zara had lemon yellow thick leggings recently in girls section, Liewood I bought him leopard print bucket hat and leggings which are in generic section as they don’t separate but h and m would def put that in Girls. And bizarrely petite bateau a few years ago sold navy or yellow raincoats in boys section but the plain red one was in girls section, so would have missed it didn’t look in both. I don’t know why they don’t just have coat category and all colours and people can choose.

We had a subscription to thelittleloop. For a monthly subscription (you can choose from a selection of prices) you can borrow items and then send them back once outgrown/the season changes. They have some lovely brands (polarn, frugi, John lewis, little white company, little green radicals, pigeon organics and many more). Worth a look at the brands even if subscription wouldn't work for you. You can choose brand new, lightly worn or worn well.

Thanks language police hope you feel better for that.

Much better.

I wasn’t sure if you were accusing the OP of squashing her son into clothes that didn’t fit him because she liked them. Now I know you were just judging her taste 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jojo literally stops making clothes from about age 6, not sure what your point is?

I'm saying the clothes will be too small as he's already 6. Who buys clothes in a small size?

But yeah carry on being a twat.

LoftyTurtle · 09/05/2024 08:42

I like the scandi and scandu esque brands as they're colourful without being covered in dinosaurs/trucks! Brands like Frugi, Picalilly, Maxomorra, DUNS Sweden etc. I do buy 90% of it on vinted though personally!

anunlikelyseahorse · 09/05/2024 08:46

Landsend (website) they do really good coats, but children's clothing tends to run large, it's worth reading the reviews.
Mountain warehouse, Tresspass and Jack Wolfskin all have a reasonable selection of boys apparel.
Frugi, smafolk (come with hefty price tag though)
Children's place (American company, I think, but have stuff in TKMax)
Llbean (very £££ + tax and shipping costs)
And French supermarkets (if you ever find yourself in France!) do lovely bright boys clothing in oranges, reds and yellows (or at least they did, haven't been to France for a few years now) they also do lovely PJs!
Plenty of choice on Amazon, just read the reviews to check for sizing.
But I find there is a much smaller selection for boys wear compared to girls.

He’s not 6!

Thanks for these suggestions. I think what’s frustrating is you have to go quite high end for nice boys clothes (I know, Vinted) but for girls I can just wander into Asda or Morrisons and have a lovely choice of clothes!

Frugi?

bert3400 · 09/05/2024 08:53

Another vote for Zara . Also John Lewis used to do some nice bits . My youngest DS is now 15 so places change

anunlikelyseahorse · 09/05/2024 09:00

Does mothercare still exist online? The Little Bird range was awesome, although I think it only went up to 6? My ds had a lovely hoody with bright colourful hot air balloons, he loved that top (he's a teen now, but still likes bright colours but plain t.shirts and hoodies)

Goldbar · 09/05/2024 09:03

Personally I don't mind the dinosaur thing, but would look at Kite, Frugi and Mini Boden for the sort of thing you're after.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 09/05/2024 09:04

Kite clothing has colourful clothes for both boys and girls. Quite expensive new but they often have sales.

MultiplaLight · 09/05/2024 09:23

Sorry OP I thought I read he was 6 😳😳.

At three Jojo is perfect. God knows where I got 6 from, I've read the whole thread and nowhere says 6🙈.

I like:

Mini Rodini, Jellymallow, Bobo Choses. Only in sales though as £££.

Zara, H&M, Lindex

All have some nice patterns that aren’t dinosaurs / tractors / characters

My point was that I was checking if you were suggesting the OP was buying clothes that were too ‘young’ for her son, or clothes that were too small.

My DD is petite. She will be able to wear clothes that are for a 6 year old (especially from JoJo, where they come up quite big) until she’s way past that. So I thought it was an odd thing to say.

No twattishness intended.

ClemmyTine · 09/05/2024 12:07

If you live near Ripley there's a lovely children's clothes shop called Kathleen's. On FB look at
little Spanish baby boutique.
Siennas baby shop.

Expensive but lovely. Or on vinted you can often get bundles of designer clothes very reasonable.

TheNinny · 09/05/2024 12:22

billie faiers collection via asda george.’some really nice things but not super expensive

TheNinny · 09/05/2024 12:24

doesnt really do bright colours though. M&S has nice stuff in bright colours when i was last the site

Mmmm19 · 09/05/2024 12:30

Zara, H&M, John Lewis.
or go higher end with European brands

Fifi878 · 10/05/2024 22:14

Have you had a look at lindex? They often have a 3 for 2. Their jackets are really good too! They wash well, colour last good and I think they are pretty reasonably priced
