To ask … where sells nice clothes for little boys?

When DS was a baby and younger toddler I went high end: JoJo, Boden, Fat Face even, to get nice clothes that weren’t covered in dinosaurs.

He is now 3 and I’m struggling a bit. Supermarkets are dominated by black, grey and khaki or garish colours and dinosaurs still prevail. (DS has no real interest in them.)

Wondering where I might not have looked as I could do with updating his summer wardrobe. I don’t want him to look like a girl but just not dull stuff or ugly stuff!

Usually Next or M&S. Also the quality and sizing is good there. Tesco is good quality for the price too but the boys stuff can be a bit stereotypical boyish prints

Joules when on sale also very good

Mumofoneandone · 08/05/2024 16:52

6 year old boy, dislike lots of clothes options for him.....raid eBay at times for Mini Boden, white company, next, m&s, Joules, John Lewis...... some really good options at a fraction of the price.
Also buy some new when can't get second hand and prepared to pay a little more for clothes that aren't covered in logos or dinosaurs!!

IOYOYO · 08/05/2024 16:57

I buy a lot second hand from the places you mentioned, I search for stuff on Vinted mostly.

I also buy my son stuff from the girls section in order to find some pattern and colour. Plenty of things are gender neutral enough, but I’m also not worried about a few hearts or flowers on things - I’d rather that than predatory animals. Kidly are also good, and seconding H&M.

Picalilly
Kite
Frugi
Maxomorra
JNY
Smafolk

All lovely and bright, but not cheap admittedly. Baby boden too

Boots used to be good, but now they have mothercare in there it has gone a bit dull. Matalan often have brights if you sift out all the character stuff.

Tbh I search vinted for the more highend brands or by colour

Zippedydoodahday · 08/05/2024 16:57

I really like Lindex.

hydriotaphia · 08/05/2024 16:59

I absolutely hate all the navy blue and khaki for boys. Dinosaurs -ok once in a while. Trucks/tractors etc - absolutely not. It's so so depressing. I am watching this thread with interest for tips.

I love Verbaudet for children’s clothing

butonlyone · 08/05/2024 17:30

Thanks. I am fussy as while I don’t want endless blues and greys I also don’t want garish colours or prints! I know the sort of stuff I like but it’s hard to explain. I don’t want him to look like a girl either and I don’t think he’d thank me for a heart or flower design.

I will have to look again at Next: it looked very khaki city last time I went in there!

You would be far better off ordering online for Next, you will get a much better choice.

Fifi878 · 08/05/2024 17:35

Vinted 🙂
not only is it cheaper- more choice!
and if they’ve already been waged you kind of see their real quality straight away.

butonlyone · 08/05/2024 17:36

Yes thanks I’m aware of Vinted but that wasn’t the question Wink

Zara

TizerorFizz · 08/05/2024 17:37

@butonlyone Arket? Stable of H&M. Definitely Zara. Jacadi if you like French style. Ralph Lauren. Have a look at Trotters too. Nice selection.

butonlyone · 08/05/2024 17:41

I haven’t ever seen much I like in Trotters. Perhaps a tad too formal! It’s become harder as he’s got older somehow as his clothes are so incredibly dull!

Every so often I find a lovely item that’s to my taste but it is once in a blue moon. By contrast, every time I walk in a supermarket I can find lovely girls things.

Tu clothing is worth checking out, they often have a few funky things amongst the sea of blue.

Compsearch · 08/05/2024 17:55

I think sadly the supermarkets are hopeless for boys. Maybe Tu has a few nice things.

I get DS (5) clothes from M&S and Boden mainly, sometimes H&M.

wayneismylife · 08/05/2024 18:00

La redoute

Spink86 · 08/05/2024 18:01

This will sound slightly bonkers but I buy pyjama sets from John lewis! They're basically tshirts and shorts, cheaper than the official outdoor wear and have some more interesting prints/colours too!

Pin0cchio · 08/05/2024 18:04

I carried on buying jojo, boden etc until mine were starting school and also expressing more choice.

More recently next & h&m have been fine but tbh once they start school you will find he'll have his own/peer influenced views on what he will wear, and may reject chic looking styles you prefer in favour of football/pokemon related stuff.

Lots of 3 year old boys and girls like dinosaurs. Both my DS & DD did.

bloodyplumbing · 08/05/2024 18:05

Gap baby

Fifi878 · 08/05/2024 18:05

Lindex?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 08/05/2024 18:05

Next has got some nice boys stuff in right now, I was looking at some of it for DD as it's always harder wearing from the boys section Hmm and I get sick of pink and unicorns.

TheBirdintheCave · 08/05/2024 18:08

butonlyone · 08/05/2024 16:28

H & M is looking very … blue. Not that there’s anything wrong with blue but a bit of colour wouldn’t go amiss!

Yes that is a problem! I hand make the rest of his clothes just to get some colour in there 😂

Kdubs1981 · 08/05/2024 18:09

I find tu good for boys. More colour choices and less obvious patterns
