RITA ORA- an example of all that is wrong with the world

I am being unreasonable, and not sure whether its jealousy or irritation that she has done so well with little discernible talent. However, she irritates me intensely for being presumably financially very successful for not wearing any clothes. MET Gala case in point. She is just such a narcissist. I know there are others out there, but she doesnt even have a crap reality show with her sisters

The 'can't you Google' crowd are a tad snippy

I'm not part of that crowd, but I applaud them.

During this thread I have Googled yacht girls and blackfishing. I haven't Googled Rita Ora songs because I really don't care 🙂

Gettingbysomehow · 07/05/2024 16:07

How do you go to the loo in that?

I'm assuming funnel or a shewe, I don't think they drink for hours before these "Dos" because there is no way that they can sit down in these dresses! Or maybe they get changed after the red carpet?

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 07/05/2024 16:11

It's very well known she slept her way to where she is.

It's very well known she slept her way to where she is.

And if true, that's the fault of the men in charge.

Windypants21 · 07/05/2024 16:15

It's a shame a lot of talented women only feel relevant when being as risqué as possible. Rita Ora has an amazing voice, she is a beautiful woman, has a great body but doesnt need to be this exposed. Each to their own I suppose, but when I see women scantily dressed I think they have little talent so are screaming for attention...see Emily Ratokowski (?). I'd love to look like either of them but I def would be wearing alot more clothes. Come back Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, beautiful clothes are missing you.

NonPlayerCharacter · 07/05/2024 16:22

There's no reason a woman can't be talented while dressing scantily; you even say right before this that Ora has a great voice, so you do actually know this is nonsense and it's just a made up stick to attack women for dressing in a way you don't like. Women who dress more demurely aren't automatically more talented or nicer people either. It's 2024 and we're still deciding whether women are talented or worthy by their clothes.

You do see that she's got a full length leotard on under those beads don't you? The only bits of flesh on show are her arms, her neck / head, and ankles down.

She's probably one of the most covered up women there.

Actually, I've just seen her second outfit. Nothing covered up about that one, so ignore my previous post!

Still don't particularly see the issue though, if someone wants to walk around with very little on, than thats up to them.

CurrentHun · 07/05/2024 16:25

oh honestly NonPlayerCharacter give over. I am saying their outfit choices appeared to in a depressing way endorse the entertainment business patriarchy power imbalance and that with no irony they are showcasing the apparent purpose and status of women in that business. That message is a bad look on anyone, and definitely in a couple in a LTR.

How you make the leaps you have in your post from mine, I have no idea. Metoo requires every decent man in Hollywood to try to do way better for women in their industry. If your private life is on display then it requires that in that public part of your life too.

StaunchMomma · 07/05/2024 16:31

I'm not a fan of her but how exactly has she got no talent? She can sing, ffs? You might not like er songs but she's had a handful of hits over the years and her voice is pretty good.

I think she comes across as quite personable on eg The Masked Singer - certainly less irritating that Davina but obviously these things come down to the tastes of viewers.

She's happily married and just getting on with her life.

Why the need for the hatred?

It's a bit word salady, but it's exactly what "It looks too much like they both massively uphold and serve the Hollywood patriarchy" when discussing their clothes, and "outfit choices appeared to in a depressing way endorse the entertainment business patriarchy endorse" and all that mean: that women's clothing choices are part of the problem.

Don't complain that I read what you wrote. If you don't like it, reconsider your thinking rather than complaining that I noticed it. There's a problem about a power imbalance and Ora isn't responsible for it because she wore a dress.

ruffler45 · 07/05/2024 16:46

Perhaps it is a generation thing but who the heck is Rita Ora and should I care for not knowing?

mydogisthebest · 07/05/2024 16:52

I quite like her but thought she looked tacky and awful at the Met Ball but then so did so many other women there.

It looked more like a strippers convention than a ball. Why do so many women feel the need to have almost all their body on show? Why not just go naked?

The men never seem to see the need to have their bums or whatever on view.

The smartest dressed there was Lewis Hamilton

Brawcolli · 07/05/2024 16:52

peeweemermaid · 07/05/2024 12:23

Youre absolutely right. My DM scrolling led me to her and the over hyping and hence financial success of this vacuous idiots is very annoying. Perhaps also showing my age, but Rita ORA as a successful music artist, must have been living under a rock for 20 years because I cant think of one song!

With your pathetic judgment of what women wear and frankly baffling amount of anger over a fairly innocuous famous person, it comes as no surprise that you frequent the Daily Mail website 😆 I’d say it’s a much better example of what’s wrong with the world, personally!

Garlicked · 07/05/2024 16:53

Thanks for this. There were some magnificent outfits this year - one of the better Mets! I clicked through to the Grauniad's Met-rospective, as well, and thoroughly enjoyed that.

@Gettingbysomehow, they only wear the red carpet outfits for about half an hour. They change clothes at least twice, often more. I don't think they allow cameras in the actual party bit (someone will know)? I like to think of them all chortling with relief as they snarf designer food in their pyjamas 😆

Months of work by armies of seamstresses & embellishers, hundreds of thousands of dollars per outfit, for less than an hour in the spotlight. It's a weird old world.

Boomer55 · 07/05/2024 16:53

She looks a mess, but, apparantly, her partner has a lot of say in what she wears.🤷‍♀️

It’s a shame that these celebs that know they have young girls looking up to them dress like this . It’s putting unrealistic expectations on young girls that will lead to image issues later in life . Encouraging that type of image is the wrong message to portray .

When I was at that influential ( think that’s spelt wrong ?! ) age it was all skinny girls and low cut jeans . Totally flat bellies . I’m almost 40 now and still feel like I can’t wear anything that’s tight without feeling conscious of my stomach . I’m not “fat” but I don’t have an ironing board stomach . I know I look fine but still I worry about summer and shop for things that hide my belly instead of things that are comfortable and I think that comes from growing up with the idea that a flat belly is perfect and nothing else is .

Garlicked · 07/05/2024 16:58

Cher in the first-ever naked dress at the Met Gala, 1974. Time magazine put her on the cover: "Time reserved its covers for world leaders or someone who invented something important, like a vaccine. Then there was Cher on the cover in that incredible piece of clothing, and newsstands sold out of it almost immediately. Some cities even banned it from being sold."

Fifty years! She and designer Bob Mackie started some trend there.

Iloveyoubut · 07/05/2024 17:00

If I was looking for a starting point as to all that’s wrong in the world today … she wouldn’t spring to mind.

Iloveyoubut · 07/05/2024 17:03

yes there is an emoji for eyerolls. Maybe you just annoyed people as much as Rita annoys you! …. I’m joking! Ish

MaryMack · 07/05/2024 17:06

I feel like an old-fashioned fuddyduddy but she looks like she's wearing a shower curtain with a pair of American tan tights underneath. She has got a fabulous figure though and must have heaps of confidence to go out wearing barely nothing.

I hope the poster upthread is right, and once the cameras are off, everyone gets changed into their PJ's and eats chips.

Yes, how dare an Albanian refugee find success in her adoptive home, have a number one single and album and over a dozen top ten hits, become an honorary ambassador for her maternal country, and go on to be adored by millions. She should be sent to Rwanda!

She was born in Kosovo.

Hedgeoffressian · 07/05/2024 17:08

YANBU but frankly I’m not surprised that the majority of MN have voted YABU. It’s a sign of the times. People are becoming more and more vain and attention seeking. Forever posting pictures on SM and ‘stories’ on Instagram etc. The celebs seem out to get the maximum shock factor so that they are featured in the papers, even if it is for all the wrong reasons. Society is on a downward trend.

GoingDownLikeBHS · 07/05/2024 17:08

I want to be married to Taika 'Owsyerfather and go out in a bead curtain (that, as Kathy Burke said on X earlier, keeps the flies out your back door) and go to a gala or whatever it is. Assuming there's drinks etc. So yeah, she's done all that, who cares?
