RITA ORA- an example of all that is wrong with the world

peeweemermaid · 07/05/2024 12:04

I am being unreasonable, and not sure whether its jealousy or irritation that she has done so well with little discernible talent. However, she irritates me intensely for being presumably financially very successful for not wearing any clothes. MET Gala case in point. She is just such a narcissist. I know there are others out there, but she doesnt even have a crap reality show with her sisters

Why Rita Ora specifically? I'm no particular fan but she doesn't stand out (except lockdown party gate, bit of a dick move but that was ages ago and male celebs get forgiven for far worse).

She's quite talented as a singer, presenter, presumably dancer, probably actress, good looking, has clearly had some lucky breaks. So what?

She's hardly the first to make a career out of being an all rounder in light entertainment without being a virtuoso performer- Lulu, Cilla Black, Cheryl Baker, Colleen Nolan, Amanda Holden, Emma Bunton, are they terrible people too?

I don't know that much about Rita but it looks like she's married someone with more international standing that's elevated the level of do she's seen at hence the body stocking and danglers but hardly out of place at the Met Gala. Perhaps at the Gala Bingo.

WhoopDereItIzz · 07/05/2024 15:26

If you'd ever heard her sing live you would know that her talent is VERY discernible indeed!

Garlicked · 07/05/2024 15:27

RedPony1 · 07/05/2024 15:22

I've seen her at festivals a couple of times, her voice is brilliant live.
If you never listen to pop as a genre you won't know her. if you do, i don't believe you haven't heard of her or at least one of her songs.

My preferred genre is rock and country but i still listen to everything

Isn't the entire point of the Met Gala to have these daft outfits?!

Agree (apart from the rock and country). It's also a clear indication that women's fortunes depend on men, and men are easily swayed by a nearly-naked woman.

Shan5474 · 07/05/2024 15:27

I think she is talentless but at least her Met Gala outfit did completely cover her and she was wearing a body stocking. Others like Emily Ratajkowski left very little to the imagination and while I am very much a free-the-nip-er I don’t really understand why there’s a need to go fully see through

Yes, how dare an Albanian refugee find success in her adoptive home, have a number one single and album and over a dozen top ten hits, become an honorary ambassador for her maternal country, and go on to be adored by millions. She should be sent to Rwanda!

I just Googled for the hell of it and @Soigneur - Ora is Kosovan, not Albanian.

RetroTotty · 07/05/2024 15:29

@Garlicked Great Heavens! Our Own Dear Future Queen? Surely not!

Faints........

LesmisPhantom · 07/05/2024 12:24

That was me who mentioned Dua Lipa. I did not know that. It sounds like I’m showing my age and no longer know who’s doing well musically…

Can I blame it on having two young children which limits my musical knowledge rather than my age…?

Surely you can parent with the radio on?

Garlicked · 07/05/2024 15:33

😂 It rarely fails.

BustyLee · 07/05/2024 15:45

I also find her irritating. And like you, op, I think it is a mixture of jealousy and annoyance. She deserves her success because she works so hard at it, seeming to push herself into the networks that matter. I was so jealous when she married a Hollywood Director, and one with so much talent. I couldn't believe it.

She may become a good actress but she was awful in 50 shades of Grey.

valensiwalensi · 07/05/2024 15:51

The devil works hard, but Rita’s publicist works harder

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 07/05/2024 15:51
  1. Think a lot of you need to google what the Met gala is - from wiki: The Met Gala or Met Ball, formally called the Costume Institute Gala or the Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in Manhattan, New York, USA. The Met Gala is popularly regarded as the world's most prestigious and glamorous fashion event and social gathering and is known as "fashion's biggest night"
  2. OP is allowed to like or dislike whoever she likes, regardless of their refugee status. Personally not sure she is any more narcissistic than any one else who has actively tried to get into the spotlight. She kind of reminds me of Geri Halliwell tbh.

The dress was a bit gross though it was by no means the only sheer affair that was worn, it was just the more tacky and non joyous in its revealingness because he wore basically standard smart man clothes that didn’t reveal his flesh and she wore basically… nothing.

As a man in entertainment after #metoo in Hollywood it’s massively not a great look for the man to be looking dressy but not revealing and the woman next to him to be hugely revealing. It looks too much like they both massively uphold and serve the Hollywood patriarchy. I thought they would each have been more self aware. So it’s a bit of a depressing choice on their first married outing to the Met. Why can’t they understand what they look like standing together?

LesmisPhantom · 07/05/2024 15:57

Isittimeformynapyet · 07/05/2024 15:30

I don’t have any music or TV on. Not because I’m anti media or screen time, but I just don’t have it on and when I do, it’s children stuff. I love when I get the car to myself and I can listen to one of my playlists.

I mean, right now, 10 little speckled frogs is playing on my Spotify…says it all!

needsomewarmsunshine · 07/05/2024 15:58

Some is sucessful for whatever and making shed loads of dosh doing it, meh.
The local dairy could make a killing on milk for so many catty remarks on MN though. So many jealous and bitchy posters on so many threads.

NippyCrab · 07/05/2024 15:59

My 10p worth is that she's got a fabulous figure as do most of them. If you've got it and want to why not flaunt your body, their assets are their income. Rita's dress is very similar to the door fly screen thing I've been looking to buy though 😂

Begsthequestion · 07/05/2024 16:03

mintich · 07/05/2024 12:57

Rumoured to be one of the top yachting girls explains why she gets the gigs and invites that she does.

Had to look up "yacht girl" and now it seems obvious (replace 'yacht' with 'call' and you're there).

Along with the recent revelations about puff daddy et al, it seems like the entertainment world really is just organised and run according to whatever gets men off...

JLou08 · 07/05/2024 16:03

Have you even heard her sing live? I'm not saying she is on the levels of Whitney and Adele but she certainly isn't talentless. As well as being a good singer she can dance, has a great energy and is a great performer. Her music isn't to everyone's taste (who's is) but plenty do enjoy her music.
You said it yourself anyway. It's jealousy! It is so sad that women hate on other women due to jealousy.

That's a very unpleasant and problematic connection to make. Ora chose to wear that dress to an event. #metoo and the casting could were not about women's choices of clothes and it's very dangerous to suggest that women are somehow to blame for how they dress.

Yep, another Albanian who doesn't know her place...

Honestly, the hatred that successful refugees and immigrants get on Mumsnet is off the scale.

Exactly what I came on to say.

The success of Albanian stars Rita Ora, Dua Lipa and Bebe Rexha seems to rub people up the wrong way.

Mrsjayy · 07/05/2024 16:05

peeweemermaid · 07/05/2024 12:09

Oh guess mumsnet not the place for over exaggeration as a form of humour. Is there an emoji for eye roll

Yes its here🙄. The Met Gala is ridiculous the people who attended are ridiculous but they and Rita ora is harming no-one!

cerisepanther73 · 07/05/2024 16:07

@peeweemermaid

I agree to a certain extant

just like Kim Kadishan and Amanda Holden and Co

Not much talent really

The less talented they are

The more they feel a need to flaunt as much of their body to compensate for the lack of talent

Or

And if they are performing 🎭 they have to have seriously flashy videos of themselves to distract how crap 💩their music really is

Gettingbysomehow · 07/05/2024 16:07

How do you go to the loo in that?

Bobbotgegrinch · 07/05/2024 16:08

peeweemermaid · 07/05/2024 12:10

Have you seen the photos from the Met gala There is limited cloth or stitching so I would argue definitely not a dress

You do see that she's got a full length leotard on under those beads don't you? The only bits of flesh on show are her arms, her neck / head, and ankles down.

She's probably one of the most covered up women there.
