RITA ORA- an example of all that is wrong with the world

I am being unreasonable, and not sure whether its jealousy or irritation that she has done so well with little discernible talent. However, she irritates me intensely for being presumably financially very successful for not wearing any clothes. MET Gala case in point. She is just such a narcissist. I know there are others out there, but she doesnt even have a crap reality show with her sisters

I went off her when she organised a birthday party during lockdown and brazenly strutted into the venue (which shouldn’t even have been open) with all her C list mates. So entitled!!

Maia77 · 07/05/2024 17:12

Her met outfits were so bad, cheap looking and did nothing for her. I think she's really been into exercising and all that stuff and wanted to show off, but she just doesn't have a curvy body, no waist and it all looked ridiculous, in my opinion.

Roselilly36 · 07/05/2024 17:14

I have always liked Rita Ora, but she looks uncomfortable, when she was pictured covering her nipples, if you are prepared to expose your body, do it, but should be 100% comfortable if it’s your choice.

WimbyAce · 07/05/2024 17:15

It is the baring all trend that I don't understand. Women are meant to have come so far so why do they feel the need to expose themselves? It's bizarre!

Lightfrost · 07/05/2024 17:19

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 07/05/2024 15:19

Eh? Why does ethnicity have to be involved, ffs
She sounds pretty Brit to me so don't think her parents country of origin comes in to play here. Looking for the race card, that's 😔

I was referring to other posters who were saying she was a refugee so any criticism of her must be related to that. Maybe save your FFS for them?

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 07/05/2024 17:19

The OP is giving me definite Clarkson vibes... 😬

Sunhatweather · 07/05/2024 17:19

I’m appalled that so many people (women) here are applauding her confidence to walk around practically naked and essentially begging for attention from everyone. Is this how far society has sunk? You don’t feel that you’ve swallowed just a little of the misogynistic kool aid?!
Yeah, she’s so empowering 🙄
She (and the other pick meeees) are genuinely so vibrant, creative, talented and driven and I wish them well with their quests for money and fame, but jeez - have a little class?

SocksAndTheCity · 07/05/2024 17:20

Here we go again with the inference that women can't just want to wear something the poster disapproves of, but that they must 'feel the need' to, because no woman is able to just like whatever outfit it is and decide to put it on.

DagnabbitDeputyDawg · 07/05/2024 17:21

I've managed to reach the age of 60 without having the faintest idea who Rita Ora is (I thought it was a soft drink), so she/he/it doesn't annoy me at all. Perhaps what's wrong with the world is the kinds of publications/web sites you're reading that are making you aware of whatever it is she/he/it is doing.

Soigneur · 07/05/2024 12:15

Yep, another Albanian who doesn't know her place...

Honestly, the hatred that successful refugees and immigrants get on Mumsnet is off the scale.

I can’t work out Taylor Swift’s huge popularity, don’t think she’s an Albanian or a refugee though, is she?

MaryMack · 07/05/2024 17:29

I've just seen the second outfit she wore on the same evening. Emperor's new clothes spring to mind. She's got nothing on, she'll catch her death.

Ponoka7 · 07/05/2024 17:32

I've always liked her because of the way she handled the misogyny directed at her, because of her once active sex life.
Her explanation of her outfit interesting. Every young person is allowed to enjoy how they look. A lot went with the barely there outfits.

Rita Ora Says Going to Bathroom Will Be Difficult in Met Gala 2024 Look (Exclusive)

On Monday, Rita Ora left little to the imagination at the 2024 Met Gala.

It's a costume party for the fashion industry. It's full of rich, important or famous people so the fashion industry provides them with extremely flashy costumes. The making of these costumes - even the naked dresses - keeps hundreds of artisans, mostly female, in well-paid work for a year.

Due to the fame, wealth and sheer opulence on display, the media take lots of pictures. This motivates the people involved to take part, and the dressed-up guests to buy the very expensive tickets.

That's how such things work, and I'm sure all the designers thank you for noting their oeuvres. Sure, I wish naked dresses hadn't been a regular feature of the performance for the last 50 years. But they have.

I doubt Rita Ora's making any kind of a statement with hers, other than the obligatory nod to this year's theme. I imagine the conversation went something like:
"It's a garden forgotten by time - I can get these amazing beads made from Ancient Roman glass by local craftsmen. Essentially, they've been lying in the ground for over 2,000 years! And they're gorgeous!"
"Sounds wonderful!"
"Yeah, we should allow their unique beauty to shine by draping them very simply across your naked body, letting them move and shimmer with you."
"Naked?"
"In a body stocking, haha."
"Ok, I'm in. Can I keep some of the beads?"

Yes, how dare an Albanian refugee find success in her adoptive home, have a number one single and album and over a dozen top ten hits, become an honorary ambassador for her maternal country, and go on to be adored by millions. She should be sent to Rwanda!

But she’s an annoying waste of skin, attention seeking, loves herself a lot. The fact she’s a refugee is neither here nor there. Her lockdown birthday party was the icing on the cake for me.

Dua Lipa at least can sing a bit and is/was a model.

No hate towards refugees or asylum seekers from my side. The only reason why MN dislikes them sometimes is because they’re divisive in terms of money spent on them and from my mind economic migrants aren’t quite the same as someone claiming refuge or asylum due to war in their country.

CruCru · 07/05/2024 17:42

It’s a bit off topic but what sort of party is the Met Gala? Is it fun or just a weird, large room full of people posing?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 07/05/2024 17:43

I’ve just checked out Rita’s outfit. It’s a brave choice and I’m not sure if I’d have ever worn that when I was younger with her figure.

I was expecting a lot worse though.

Allfur · 07/05/2024 17:44

I think she is a bit annoying, however she is very attractive, has a lovely body, this time in her life won't last for ever, I see no harm in her making the most of it

whatdoiwantformybirthdayson · 07/05/2024 17:44

I'm not a fan but an example of all that is wrong with the world? No, not at all. Not my cup of tea but much, much worse out there.

She’s hardly young though is she at 33?

I guess she’s wearing these outfits before she has kids/gets divorced.

Sandytoesandcrabs · 07/05/2024 17:45

I quite like her. I like anyone who does well for themselves and think she can dress how she wants. Very un mumsnetty. I can’t ever imagine being irritated by such things

She’s a bit of a butter face though… I see nothing much attractive about her face but her body is great. I think she knows this though, hence the dress.

Everyone loves Taytay cos she’s an all American girl though. Does Trump like her?!

I find her quite bland but then I’m not the age to be her target market nor do I have daughters. I’d probably go to her concert but no one I know closely is going.

Katbum · 07/05/2024 17:55

Look - the commercial entertainment industry survives on taking good looking or plain but can be glammed up looking people, overhyping their talent, endowing them with celebrity and then exploiting the results. The creation of 'celebrity' is a means for people to get rich (very often at the expense of the celebrity who is discarded when they are no longer bankable, and often left in a terrible state). For every Rita Ora there are hundreds of young women and men who've been promised the earth and taken advantage of, in every way, on the hope that they can be the next big thing. Abuse is rife (see Baby Reindeer!). So yes YABU because you are buying into the brand of Rita Ora that is being sold and not understanding it is your envy in part that fuels this horrible state of affairs. She is a human person and her 'success' comes with massive strings attached.

No, he hates her because she’s a Democrat and urges her fans to vote likewise.
