I am being unreasonable, and not sure whether its jealousy or irritation that she has done so well with little discernible talent. However, she irritates me intensely for being presumably financially very successful for not wearing any clothes. MET Gala case in point. She is just such a narcissist. I know there are others out there, but she doesnt even have a crap reality show with her sisters

OP has already said she's being unreasonable and having a rant, which goodness knows we all do from time to time

Trulyme · 07/05/2024 18:59

She is known to have slept her way to the top but I imagine this is what many women had to do (unless they had rich parents and connections like Taylor Swift) to become famous.

AboutYouTalk · 07/05/2024 19:02

YANBU Rita looks awful but she has zero shame, she’ll do anything for attention but then the Met Gala is full of talentless, narcissistic people. Fair play to the protestors outside who know the absolute nonsense of it all.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/05/2024 19:04

Those "naked" body stockings are often much more robust than they look. I remember seeing the infamous Versace dress Jennifer Lopez wore at a V&A exhibition. The internal body stocking was as sturdy and about as revealing as M&S shapewear for the traditionally built.

I often wonder how does Rita Ora have the career she has? Have you ever met anyone who really loves her music and is passionate about her? She has/had licensing deals with so many firms e.g. Rimmel, Primark but on what grounds? To justify those deals you'd think there would be some sort of equivalent to the Swifties but I've never come across anyone who'd identify as such. It's a fascinating mystery to me.

I'd have thought Primark and Rimmel was about the right level- recognisable and enduring to a wide base but not superstar fame

when I see women scantily dressed I think they have little talent so are screaming for attention

There's no reason a woman can't be talented while dressing scantily; you even say right before this that Ora has a great voice, so you do actually know this is nonsense and it's just a made up stick to attack women for dressing in a way you don't like. Women who dress more demurely aren't automatically more talented or nicer people either. It's 2024 and we're still deciding whether women are talented or worthy by their clothes.

I just think it's a shame that women feel the need to do this when they do have enough talent to attract as much attention as they need. As I said ' each to their own,' but my view of moving forward is for women to not have to expose themselves physically, they might want to of course, but for the ones who dont there is probably an executive saying wear this or that, if you dont want to then such and such will, or saying you havent got the 'face' for the music industry. There are plenty of men out there who arent lookers but still have a music career, not too many less aethetically pleasing women though. We have battled for equality, yet we are still having women interviewed being asked what they're wearing, how fat or thin they are, what diet theyre on, how quickly they snapped back into their size 0 jeans after their baby, blah blah blah, rather than being asked about their achievements. To get on the front page they have to wear as little as possible or be provocative because they're up against the Kardashians Ratakowskis (?) et al who really dont have a talent but are the ones getting big butt's and wearing skin tight or semi nude outfits which of course gets them the front pages.

But isn’t it okay to question why women have to do this? Many women in Hollywood are quite powerful in terms of being highly skilled accomplished and wealthy. I always think it is weird to have a job where they are required to attire themselves in a highly decorative ultra feminine style while the men, while smart, are nowhere near as objectified.

Ora didn't have to dress the way she did. She chose to. And it wasn't out of place for the event.

It's total sexist nonsense to decide a woman who dresses scantily can't be talented, as that poster did - even after admitting Ora is talented! It's fine not to like the dress but drawing ridiculous conclusions about a woman's talent or character from what she wears is sexist, reductive, illogical nonsense. If women's clothes really were that powerful, we would rule the world.

BobbyBiscuits · 07/05/2024 19:22

She's trying to make it in the states (again, first time she was sucking off jay z so she got kicked out) but it's not coming off. I always think she looks like she's just been styled by so many people, but does not have her own unique style or look at all. Yet she doesn't really have the figure for a model. I don't think I've ever heard her sing or speak? So yeah, not a major fan. Her husband is starting to annoy me now as well, and I used to quite like him.

AboutYouTalk · 07/05/2024 19:23

Where are the men with their arse’s hanging out? Her husband is also a massive attention seeker, all covered up tho whilst he stands next to her half naked for the world to see….

taxguru · 07/05/2024 19:25

Soigneur · 07/05/2024 14:11

It literally is work wear if you're a pop star.

Doesn't have to be. Lots of pop stars manage to be successful and still keep their decency! Gimmicks like wearing bugger all is all about attention seeking to make up for lack of ability.

Abhannmor · 07/05/2024 19:26

ClipClopperDontStopper · 07/05/2024 12:14

I'd heard Russell Brand had had a come to God moment (totally sincere I'm sure, and not at all an aid to his current grift) but hadn't realised Bear Grylls was in on it too.

Bleurgh.

Would be an awful shame if they caught a month long dose of diarrhea from the Thames water.

I don’t understand where her fame has come from. I can only name one song she did and yet she was everywhere. On all the adverts for makeup and clothes, hanging out with all the A listers. Now she’s married to a pretty high profile director. How? Does she have dirt on someone high up?

I couldn't call out Rita specifically as there are just too many vacuous celebrities to choose from but I get your thinking generally, OP...I mean, who are they? What are they for?? (Channeling Nikki Grahame there, bless her RIP)

Not specifically for you, but for everyone querying why she is famous ... (worth a quick read) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rita_Ora

crumblingschools · 07/05/2024 19:28

But why do some women feel the need to dress like this? Some of the after party dresses (if you can call them that) were even more revealing, even if a body stocking was being worn

slore · 07/05/2024 19:29

Rita Ora is quite a random person to target, and to be honest you seem resentful of her good looks and fortune.

I'm not a particular fan of hers, but she's objectively not talentless. She can sing, and has had a decent number of hits over the last 12 years.

She gets a lot of misogyny for the rumours that she slept around to get ahead, when that outrage should be directed at the men in charge who withhold opportunities from women unless they have sex with them.

80schildhood · 07/05/2024 19:32

Haven't rtft because I'm knackered but....they both missed it at the met gala - her and her husband. I think the concept was ok but her outfit was badly executed. The nude part was ill fitting causing wrinkles which detracted from the whole thing. The combi of his brown leather outfit and her beaded outfit did make them look like they were trying to recreate an early 80s living room in a council house in Glasgow.

I find it hard to get worked up about anyone in particular but her thinking she was above lock down rules and having a party did grind my gears. She is clearly a smart and successful woman so her ditzy schtick on The Masked Singer also grates.

If you think Rita Ora is bad - TRY THIS! 😱😂🙄

Bear Grylls ‘helped baptise Russell Brand’ in River Thames (msn.com)

Do you think it's bad for people to become Christians?

Monsterjam · 07/05/2024 19:33

she has a full body suit on under those beads!

But then we would also question why the poster thinks that women who are scantily clad have no talent and it’s ok to question why you think women have to do it … we need to ask and answer all the questions. Not just guess the answers when it suits us.

NextPhaseOfLife · 07/05/2024 19:36

She looked mesmerising at the Met Gala.
She's beautiful and has a fantastic figure.

Not something to wear down Sainsbury's but certainly got her acres of attention and column inches.

The very objective to attending, isn't it?

PersephonePomegranate23 · 07/05/2024 19:37

She looked a twat but she's not hurting anyone (not counting my eyes - I didn't have to look).

BustyLee · 07/05/2024 19:39

I always wonder about Emily Ratajkowski. She wrote a book called My Body about being annoyed about being objectified because she was born with the genetics to become a model. But ever since the book was published she has drawn attention to her body with see through clothes etc. Did anybody read it? I was reflecting on this and then came across this article which articulated my feelings about this and women like Rita Ora who present as empowered but do so by pandering to what I perceive as male fantasies of femininity and whose status is sometimes conferred by their powerful partner.

And if true, that's the fault of the men in charge.

And some women collude.
