Has anyone else seen this ? 🤣 family leave bad review about a waitress because their child was crying so much she suggested they move onto the heated patio, instead they left and then emailed in the review and also left it on google it looks like.

The waitress has had it printed onto a t shirt and it's gone insanely viral.

She said she had an ocular migraine and it wasn't her best day at work, but other customers were looking at her to do something about the crying toddler so she suggested they move outside (in November ) and they left.

I'd be so embarrassed I left such a review and now the entire internet has seen it printed on a shirt.

i dont like the use of the word server
that is an americanism isnt it?

That's because in America the restaurant staff have different roles, one of which is server.

You will have greeter, assigner, server, etc.
All work in the restaurant , working with customers, but all have different roles.
The server is a tipped role - they usually get paid a much lower hourly rate but can make way more through the tips.

In the UK we tend to have one person do more than one of these roles - the waiter.

Willmafrockfit · 06/05/2024 10:01

i didnt realise it was in america? i assume it was in herts

I’m with the parents here. I wouldn’t be impressed to be told to sit outside in November either.

So, if your child was screaming for a long period of time, you'd just sit there? Most parents would take the child outside to calm down ime.

She's selling the T-shirts for £14.99. 🙄

Surely not! Why would anyone buy that 🤣 I’m even more embarrassed for her now!

If the waitress felt ill with a bad migraine, she should have gone home. She sounds like a bit of an attention seeker to me and her T. Shirt makes her look like a twat.

I suspect the restaurant doesn't offer sick pay perhaps.

Potnoodlesarentantisocial · 06/05/2024 10:06

I don't find it hilarious and think this t shirt is a bit ridiculous.
The only reason it's gone 'viral' is that some news pages are churning out rubbish articles because they can't do real journalism 🤷🏼‍♀️

It is I think, but maybe the restaurant is an American firm? Or has American owners? Or has an American style set up? Albeit the lay scale will be better than is the US due to the minimum wage and not quite as much reliance on tips. Could also just be a restaurant that has chosen to use American style words. 🤷

I was simply explaining what the term means. It isn't usually quite the same as the role of waiter.

SadOrWickedFairy · 06/05/2024 10:23

The reviewer makes a fair point. Sounds like families with children would be better giving this place a wide berth.

Or the parents could parent their children as no doubt other parents with children in that cafe did. The report stated other diners were being made uncomfortable by the constant noise and the waitress suggested they went onto the heated terrace to calm the child down - not say banishing them out there to eat.

Children do cry or make a fuss sometimes and while parents should control them and remove them if they're disturbing fellow customers, it's unreasonable to expect them always to behave like mini-adults.

Problem is a large number of parents don't control their children nor remove them if they are disturbing fellow customers, No-one expects children to behave like mini adults but they do expect them to behave.

Cafes/restaurants who want custom from families should behave in a welcoming way towards babies and children.

Parents should reciprocate by controlling and parenting their children so the experience is enjoyable for everyone in the cafe/restaurant.

It seems some parents are either too lazy or too afraid to actually parent their children and don't care about the impact on anyone else.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 06/05/2024 10:28

Sorry - she made a family with young child sit outside in November because she had a headache - and she thinks making it into a tshirt is really funny? Is this some young people thing?

mermaidblueeyes · 06/05/2024 10:54

Id be irritated by crying if it was prolonged and not dealt with. I’m a mum myself and I also need quiet relaxing down time when out and about.

BUT there’s a way of handling this scenario and this wasnt it. The waitress is in the wrong for being an attention seeking brat who thinks she’s hilarious and cool (but really isn’t.)

I expect her family and friends are embarrassed of her 😂

AllCatsAreAutistic · 06/05/2024 11:00

Go Daniella! Those parents sound like entitled pricks.

Roundandroundthegard3n · 06/05/2024 08:46

A stroppy teenager isn't the same as a baby.

And people take their kids to cafes because they're allowed to exist in public even though their presence may slightly inconvenience or irritate other people. How will they learn how to behave in a cafe if they never go to a cafe?

Society is getting too intolerant and it's worth remembering children are allowed to go to places even if they then act as children often do.

I never understand this point of view. Children who sit at tables to eat a meal at home learn how to sit tables anywhere.
But babies do not learn to sit in cafes. Cafes are boring for babies. Your baby might be happy in a cafe with their parent playing with them, but the baby is not learning anything.

Why would you be embarrassed?

Are you also the type of person who won’t go to the cinema alone or eat a meal in a restaurant alone?

valensiwalensi · 06/05/2024 11:10

It’s more embarrassing for the employer that for whatever reason, a staff member with a migraine wasn’t able to go home sick.

sunnydaysanddaydreams · 06/05/2024 11:10

All those backing the parents, are you ignoring the fact other customers complained about the noise? I think it's a bit self centred to not move if you're disturbing other customers

Spirallingdownwards · 06/05/2024 11:14

I'd be more embarrassed to be the rude waitress who thinks it's funny to put it on a t shirt. Can only assume OP is Dani the waitress trying to draw attention to her hilarious prank!

I agree, this just makes the waitress look like a twat. I’d fire for this.

im assuming she’s young and clueless.

I agree it’s not the best move

Less of the ageism. If someone said she’s ‘old and clueless’ you’d be spitting tacks.

queenofthewild · 06/05/2024 11:29

I recall a miserable dining experience with DS when he was tiny. He would not calm down. We ordered our food. DH took him outside so he wouldn't spoil anyone else's dinner. I ate alone. Then we swapped while DH ate alone.

Every other lunch or dinner out he was usually fine for a short enough time for us to sit together. Not this day. But it wouldn't have been fair to expose other diners to his miserable behaviour.

It's a pity the waitress needed to make the suggestion to the parents at all.

tiredandabitfat · 06/05/2024 11:29

I hate things like this.

There's nothing clever or witty here, and the review is barely even worthy of comment.

I wouldn't be impressed at being asked to sit outside with a baby in November.

Not sure why the waitress seems to be proud about this.

The review was fairly factual. Wasn't amusing, didn't resort to hyperbole. The reviewer isn't identified so won't be embarassed.

....it's all just a non event.

"Waitress made a slightly daft suggestion to customer. They were annoyed by it so left a negative review. Waitress printed it on tshirt"

Just WHY?

It's really not the "fuck you" the waitress seems to think it is.

Anonymouslyposting · 06/05/2024 11:52

I’m another one who is with the reviewer. Noisy toddlers are really annoying and, if mine as screaming I always take them out of a restaurant until they’ve calmed down, but they are part of life and asking people to eat outside because of them (particularly because the waitress has a headache) is way over the top.

Maybe ask them to take them out until they are calmer. At most. Certainly not make the family have their entire meal outside.

Getting this printed makes the waitress look petty and silly. I’d be embarrassed to be her, not the reviewer.

Oh, and I’d not be impressed if I was a customer and my waitress was wearing that - it would make me feel like the restaurant didn’t care about customer feedback. Certainly no tip if that’s indicative of how she thinks of her customers.

She's selling the T-shirts for £14.99. 🙄

For anyone who is thinking of buying one, I have an alternative for £10 with my quote from upthread printed on.

I do it in any colour that eBay supplies and any size as long as eBay has it in stock

I'll add "The waitress was wrong" for a further 50p.

Any takers?
