Vegan wedding

Would it be asshole-ish of me to smuggle babybels in my handbag?

The menu looks very tiny, and I don't intend to eat it in front of anyone, just find a dark corner. It's the only meal at the whole event.

I did think of peperami but it's vile and stinky.

Yes, YABU.

Eat a large breakfast, go to the wedding and then eat your dinner as a polite adult and say ‘thank you’ when you’ve finished.

Vegan food isn’t poisonous. And it’s more filling.

It depends. I don't object to vegan food, but I've developed annoying food intolerances - possibly connected to a couple of really bad bouts of food poisoning when I was abroad.

I now have to follow a Fodmap diet or suffer the consequences. At lot of the vegetables that I used to love are no longer available to me and soya has become problematic. I'd have to have my cornflakes and oatmilk in the morning and maybe sneak a banana in with me.

A snack that goes against the belief system of your host is just twattish.

Having a "belief system" that you inflict on others, making them uncomfortable, is twattish.

Who is uncomfortable eating mushrooms and beetroot?

sweetpickle2 · 05/05/2024 15:17

Is it 'tiny' or does it just not have meat/cheese in it?

WearyAuldWumman · 05/05/2024 15:18

SillyLemonZebra · 05/05/2024 15:05

Omg you remind me of me. I’m having to do an elimination diet at the moment which has rendered me basically vegan. It’s horrendous 🙈 I cannot explain how horrendous it is. Definitely take the cheese and do some secret eating ♥️

I've tried the Fodmap and have been trying to add back to see what's triggering my problems. I'm now looking at paying 200 quid for one of those intolerance tests.

WaitingfortheTardis · 05/05/2024 15:18

I always take a snack for weddings, there can be a lot of waiting around and I'm miserable if I'm hungry. I'd probably take something that didn't need to be in a fridge though, like a breakfast bar or similar. I don't think it matters if your own snacks are in line with the menu or not though.

Or you could speak to the bride and groom who may be able to work with you to provide a vegan meal that you could eat.

wave I love both of those. I can no longer eat them. The consequences are painful.

ETA I've been following this and then trying to add things back in. Turns out my tummy doesn't like onions, betroot, mushrooms...

Dominos to the car park or hotel!

Aye, I guess. I think I'd find sneaking in the banana less embarrassing.

I'm a vegetarian and find my vegetarian and vegan dishes very filling.

Sounds like you are a glutton.

Sounds like you are a rude self righteous individual.

Well, the OP for one who knows they are going to be hungry and trying to work out how to smuggle in food. I would be the same.

Just because you don't have an issue with it, or know a few folk who wouldn't have an issue with it, doesn't make it fact for everyone else.

I actually find it extremely selfish and poor hosting to inflict your beliefs on other people.

I was going to say one tiny cheese is hardly gluttonous. Poor OP 🙈

TTPD · 05/05/2024 15:27

welshycake · 05/05/2024 14:08

Oh come on. You could at least take a vegan flapjack or something. You wouldn't take a steak so why is a babybel ok. You clearly don't like or respect them so maybe you should just not go.

Only because a steak wouldn't fit in her bag.

She's planning on eating it in secret. It's not more unreasonable for it not to be vegan. The bride and groom can decide not to pay for non-vegan food (perfectly reasonable) but they can't ban it from the premises.

I think it's a little weird to take a babybel because the menu doesn't look filling. Babybels are hardly massive enough to make any difference anyway.

WearyAuldWumman · 05/05/2024 15:22

There’s nothing embarrassing about having dietary requirements.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 05/05/2024 15:28

Can we see the menu? It could be really nice. I wouldn't mind vegan, and for those who would it's one meal.

ItsADoggieDogWorld · 05/05/2024 15:29

Just because it's a vegan wedding, doesn't mean it's the law you can only eat vegan food that day. People on this thread are bonkers. Take whatever you want to eat. It always amazes me how vegans and vegetarians are mostly catered for as guests but they generally cannot extend that same courtesy to others.

Fanchester · 05/05/2024 15:29

Halzie · 05/05/2024 14:27

I think we are living in crazy times where people would get their back up so much about a babybel at a wedding.

I don't think it's the babybel in itself that's an issue- it's the idea of deliberately taking something that the hosts would be upset about. Just seems so spiteful and petty. Why not take a banana or some nuts- it's hardly difficult.

They want a vegan wedding. If you don't want to go to a vegan wedding don't go. But don't go and abuse their hospitality.

moonlitmaze · 05/05/2024 15:32

Take one of those little bags of assorted mini cheeses some supermarkets sell and some crackers.

BIossomtoes · 05/05/2024 15:33

There was an astounding amount of really delicious food at the vegan wedding I went to.
