There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

If they have parked there to go to the fête they could be in the tent next to you drinking their own lukewarm wine with no intention of moving it tonight at all...

diddl · 05/05/2024 16:36

as my DD quite craftily pointed out - they don't know it's our car, they probably think we're a fellow CF

Haha!

Indeed.

You could tell them that you have no idea who the car belongs to and that you had to park elsewhere due to them being on your drive.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 05/05/2024 16:38

You should be nice and relaxed after some lukewarm white wine, OP!

We had similar with a CF who blocked the gates into where we park. We blocked them in and I put a rather pass-agg note on the CF's windscreen telling them to let us know when they were leaving. Tbh, they were mortified as they'd been told to park there by another neighbour, but it was very satisfying.

An absolute wanker of a man threatened to park on my drive last week.

We have three disabled people in the house and there have been occasions when we've had to drive to hospital as a life or death emergency (we deliberately bought a house near the hospital and it's just quicker to drive than wait for an ambulance!)

We live opposite a school. Four people parked over the drive that day - each one was a mum. Every time I politely went out and said "would you mind not parking over our drive again please, we've got disabled people in the house and sometimes need emergency access." I didn't even ask them to move there and then, I just asked them nicely not to do it again.

Then the evening came and there's dance classes in the school. A bloke parks across the drive. So I do the same again, as he's about to leave I very politely go out and ask him not to block us in again, and explain why.

In contrast to the women who had all been really apologetic and lovely, this bloke instantly got in my face and was REALLY aggressive. Told me that not only could he park where he wanted but he could even park ON my drive if he chose, and I couldn't stop him. * Didn't give a shit about our circumstances - just sneered at me "yeah, what are you going to do to stop me? Nothing!"

*We have a double drive - one for the annexe where my disabled DM lives and the other space for us (I have disabled DC). Parking in front of the drive blocks both spaces in.

I checked when I got inside and apparently he's sort of right. If he parks on my drive the police won't remove him as it's a civil offence. If I remove his car I'm liable for damage. And if I park across my own dropped kerb I could get a parking ticket. Unbelievable.

If he makes good on his threat and parks on my drive, I am absolutely blocking him in. I've stopped using my drive because of being blocked in and the anxiety it causes me. I've had to throw my child in the car and get him to hospital as a critical emergency on occasions - I don't have time for people to fanny around moving their car and having to explain why. This means I have a car parked on the street. I will pay whatever parking tickets needed for parking on a dropped kerb and I will block the fucker in for at least a week after the way he spoke to me.

So yes, I'm totally rooting for you OP. Let the fucker wait. I really can't get my head around how utterly entitled some people are.

I think it is an offence to park in a way that would prevent emergency services accessing your property if necessary.

Excellent update.

BettyNora · 05/05/2024 16:40

Day made. I've a parking thread

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 05/05/2024 16:40

Absolutely not following for an update…

cymraes12 · 05/05/2024 16:40

Another one shamelessly following for the update, these are my absolute favourite sorts of threads (although obviously annoyed on behalf of the OP). My parents have the pleasure of living near a large hospital with overpriced parking and for those who said surely no one is cheeky enough to park on a random driveway - let me tell you, they really are, and my parents have spent many a happy hour denying all knowledge of the car that has blocked the driveway and prevented cheeky hospital visitors parked on it from leaving …

Another shameless follower.

Years ago we had a regular drive parker but we didn't know! We live near a school and at collection time they parked in our driveway. It was only when DH was off work poorly one day that he saw them. Went out to ask what they were doing and they were very surprised to be caught out. We now both work partially from home now so have made an effort to close the gate or leave stuff on the drive (gotta love that basketball hoop and stand) so they don't bother. See the car often though and we always give it evils.

MILTOBE · 05/05/2024 16:45

Another one here for the update!

Stompythedinosaur · 05/05/2024 16:46

I hope they're furious!

helpmum2003 · 05/05/2024 16:46

Well done for blocking them in. Sitting back and waiting for updates...

G123456789 · 05/05/2024 16:47

Simple solution, let their tires down they will think they have punctured especially if you put some nails in your drive, when they get a call out truck advise the guy, especially if it's rac/aa that they don't have permission to be on your property and you will be suing their employer for tresspass. No criminal damage, no proof you did anything.

KThnxBye · 05/05/2024 16:48

How do people do this and then actually go and enjoy a fete and not worry the whole time about where their car is and what they will face when they get back?! (Talking about the CF not the OP)

saraclara · 05/05/2024 16:48

Surely the fete is over by now?

FindingNeverland28 · 05/05/2024 16:50

Nothing useful to say. I’m only commenting because I don’t know how to watch a thread without commenting first and I’m intrigued to know how this turns out.

Perhaps OP had decamped to the pub. I do hope so! 🤗
