To find small children slightly repulsive

OK I do love my 4 year granddaughter but sorry the chewing , gulping and gasping while eating is actually revolting .
Am I really nasty? She is here eating a sandwich and gulping down some milk in a really horrid way.

Yes you’re being unkind. That’s a toddler. She won’t be doing it at 25.

Mercurial123 · 05/05/2024 13:02

Yes, you're being awful. She's a child.

SpookySpoon22 · 05/05/2024 13:02

Sounds like you have misophonia - not easy for either party. I suggest popping on some music or earplugs while she eats.

Imagine this thread title “To find senior citizens slightly repulsive”.

Would MN let it stand ?

Would it make you stop in your tracks if you read it?

Poor child

AtrociousCircumstance · 05/05/2024 13:04

Poor kid!

If you had misphonia you might have said “I find the sounds of a toddler eating repulsive.” But to find the child repulsive - yeah, that’s horribly harsh and I don’t see how you can claim to love someone you find repulsive!

StormingNorman · 05/05/2024 13:04

It is grim. Food around the face and on their hands too makes me feel a bit sick. I know they are learning and don’t react to any of it, but it does make me feel a bit squeamish.

Youllnevergetabetterbitofbutteronyourknife · 05/05/2024 13:05

I second a PP poster that says you have Misophonia. It's a hatred of certain sounds. Bodily noises can be a massive trigger and it makes you feel anger and disgust. Can you put on some music? Try to find a way to drown out the eating noises. You're not alone 💐

mrandmrsrobinson · 05/05/2024 13:05

She'll probably think the same of you when you're older and dribbling.

BathshebaEverdene1 · 05/05/2024 13:09

Oh I didn't express it well.
I don't find HER repulsive as such, just the way she eats.
I am always kind and patient. Let's hope I am not a dribbly old gran

You could be dribbly, slurpy and possibly incontinent too

Let’s hope she doesn’t find your bodily noises and smells repulsive

Well, someone patiently fed you and wiped your face.
Maybe wiped your arse and cleaned up your sick, too. That's the way it is.

Giggorata · 05/05/2024 13:15

En masse, I do find them a bit yucky. Lots of snot and dribble, and worse. They're always so moist.
If there are only a couple, keeping a wet cloth, wet wipes and tissues handy helps me cope with it all.

Awful.

IHateWasps · 05/05/2024 13:17

She’s not a toddler. They are no longer toddlers as soon as they turn 3.

Young children are pretty gross. They can’t help because it’s the developmental stage that they’re at but they aren’t exactly known for their good hygiene and perfect table manners.

I’ve worked in childcare and I still look at play dough without feeling ill and would advise people never to eat anything that a toddler or young child helped to make.

Sahara123 · 05/05/2024 13:17

Well, I do think a lot of adults eat pretty badly, you’re never too young to learn , it’s got to start somewhere

fieldsofbutterflies · 05/05/2024 13:17

You're not wrong. When you look at it objectively, little kids are pretty grim.

A-bit strange you frequent a parenting forum then…

How is that relevant to how I feel?

tracktrail · 05/05/2024 13:18

A 4 Yr old should be quite capable of eating nicely and drinking properly. Sorry, the parents need to step up on this. And the poster saying she won't be doing it at 25? Ha, plenty of adults eat like they are at a trough!
A stern, eat that properly to start with.

When you’re old you’ll be fed, moist and wiped all over again 😂

Apollo365 · 05/05/2024 13:19

Yeah my youngest is gross. He’s just kind of snotty and dirty 🤣 I love him though. I’m sure he won’t be like this when he’s older…
