To find small children slightly repulsive

OK I do love my 4 year granddaughter but sorry the chewing , gulping and gasping while eating is actually revolting .
Am I really nasty? She is here eating a sandwich and gulping down some milk in a really horrid way.

Why on earth are you on MN if you obviously don’t have or want kids then? Strange behaviour

There are hundreds of topics on MN that aren’t about parenting.

It is a site primarily regarding parenting and largely full of parents. It is a very strange place to be if you are genuinely repulsed by kids as this poster claims

If you’re unable to tell people apart you may have an issue with your sight or cognition. Should probably get that checked out..

unless of course you’re being a dickhead for no reason. Your friends deserve better.

strangewomenlyinginponds · 05/05/2024 13:39

Nah, it's fine, not remotely unkind since you're not actually telling her. You might have misophonia.

Anyway, you can't help how you feel so no point worrying about it.

IHateWasps · 05/05/2024 13:39

It’s really not. It’s so much more than a parenting site now and has been for a long time. There are plenty of topics to enjoy on MN that don’t relate to parenting and there’s even a child free section.

It's really not strange if the OP wants to join in with the thousands of threads that don't involve discussing children or parenting.

Starting this thread was strange though, for sure.

One in five people in the UK suffer from misophonia

And every single one of them seems to be a member of Mumsnet 👀

Quiet! I can hear you tapping your keyboard from here.

Gymmum82 · 05/05/2024 13:42

Yeah kids are grim. But so are old people. Both smelly and disgusting

PTSDBarbiegirl · 05/05/2024 13:46

IME of working in pre school I'm shocked at how few children know how to eat properly. Children from African, Indian, Chinese families can use utensils adeptly and eat from a plate while managing to keep the rest of the food in the plate. It seems the norm from a really young age can also put on own shoes, coats, put bag on. Typical white British families seem to send little ones to pre school with few independent skills to eat. Don't know when this started but it wasn't like this 15 years ago. Also lots of non SEN kids age 5 plus still in nappies.

Wow.
I looked after a friends toddler today.
I took him to a toddler class and it wasn't at all difficult to tell who was who!

TwattyMcFuckFace · 05/05/2024 13:50

@PTSDBarbiegirl well you must have very limited experience to spout that pile of racist nonsense.

Berlinlover · 05/05/2024 13:51

TwattyMcFuckFace · 05/05/2024 13:25

Who diagnosed you? It sounds unlikely if it wouldn't bother you.

Misophonia is a disorder in which certain sounds trigger emotional or physiological responses that some might perceive as unreasonable given the circumstance. Those who have misophonia might describe it as when a sound “drives you crazy.” Their reactions can range from anger and annoyance to panic and the need to flee.

Certain sounds not EVERY sound.

And everyone in between. There is a lot of grimness about.

KreedKafer · 05/05/2024 13:52

I don’t find small children revolting but I do find a lot of things they do irritating and/or gross. I loathe seeing toddlers with food all over their faces and toddler table manners are rank.

JamSandle · 05/05/2024 13:52

I mean yes it is pretty vile. I think most people would agree.

Uricon2 · 05/05/2024 13:53

My Victorian grandmother (who I loved to bits) had no issue with insisting on good table manners

"situpstraightdon'tslouchdon'tchewwithyourmouthopenIdon'twanttoseeyourfooddon'tmakethatnoisewithyourdrinkwipeyourmouthit'swhatnapkinsareforholdyourknifeproperly"

Etc.

4 year olds will need an awful lot of repetition for it to sink in, but it does eventually.

Way to go on the assumptions and the racism Barbie Girl!!

Many kids are gross. Some adults are too.
Far more are gross than cute.

Hubcaphan2 · 05/05/2024 13:54

Tbh at 4 she shouldn’t be making noise whilst eating. 14 months? Yes. But by 4 most know basic table manners

Ygfrhj · 05/05/2024 13:54

I do find other people's kids repulsive occasionally. All the snot, fluids, staring etc. I find my own adorable whatever she does though!

The poster in question wasn’t replying to you, it was about a seperate poster who can’t tell young kids apart unless they’re a different race 😵‍💫

Realduchymarmalade · 05/05/2024 13:56

These comments are honestly shocking and I can only hope most of them are satire. A reminder that there are a lot of damaged adults out there. This used to be a place for mums, mums to be and grans but nowadays seems to be full of bitter hags.

I’ve heard very similar from friends who are educators and work in social services. This seems to be a pattern they have picked up on it and not sure why the claims of racism? If someone said kids from X community have less English skills no one on Mumsnet would be clamouring to say it’s racist. I love how actual racism against minorities is dismissed but this is deemed racist on Mumsnet 😃

anyway yes things have declined since about 2010, I don’t think it’s any coincidence that’s when many surestart centres was closed and Tories came into power.

But it’s still shocking some parents irrespective of backgrounds actually feel it’s not their responsibility to get their children prepared with independent skills.

MercyDulb0ttle · 05/05/2024 13:58

Yep. Except my DGD.

If we go
tothe park I’m aways struck by how unpleasant all the other children are. They always seem to be in need of a wash, or to have something wiped. Of course I’d grab one if it was to save it from being hurt or injured but I’d still wipe my hands on my jeans afterwards.

I know not everyone on mumsnet has children but it is predominantly a parenting site so why would you say such awful things about children on such a site? ,
I hare these kinds of threads.
