The past election/PM changes have been horrendous. The visceral disappointment was awful each time.

I can’t wait to actually celebrate this year. I know, I know, Labour are going to set fire to the economy and tax everyone £3mil each and it’ll cost you 4 trillion a month to send you kid to private school, and all women will perish immediately because only Tories know what a woman is Hmm

But finally! It’s been a long fucking time coming.

'who cares ...'

Anuggetofpurestgreen · 06/05/2024 21:53

fungipie · 06/05/2024 21:48

you forgot about the most essential bit.

Not giving up on fighting and working hard to improve state edu and health care for all, rather than just say and think 'you cares about the other kids and people'. For me, that is how I decide.

But if your child is in private education and you use private medicine, where's the fighting and working hard on your part to improve standards in the local.comp for example. I mean, what do you do and wheres the engagement? Genuine question... If you're a governor or something then good on you. If you spend time volunteering then total respect to you @fungipie . I don't want to presume anything.

It was someone who was a great admirer of Diane that raised the issue really.

I don’t think that counts.

I referred to Diane Abbot first on this thread in the context of the abhorrent racist and misogynistic abuse she was targeted with by a Tory party donor. She was later dismissively referred to as ‘the Abbot’ and I just stated some of her achievements - it’s purely inference by another poster that I’m a ‘great admirer’ (although I am a Labour supporter), but I just wanted to balance out some of the Daily Mail profiling of her. Sure enough a poster then referred to her as ‘a moron’ which is always rather predictable and also quite at odds with the fact that she was a young black working class woman accepted to Cambridge University in the 1970s. The focus on her was then directed on the school her son attended - understandably she was accused of hypocrisy, but this isn’t her defining characteristic and neither are the shoes that she wears. Regardless of your politics or your thoughts on her, the way she has been targeted with abuse is unacceptable and it’s perhaps worth reflecting on how and why a Tory party donor felt so comfortable making such discriminatory remarks about her on a public platform.

No it wasn't you. From recollection it was someone called Alexandra something. Anyway she does admire Diane and it seemed very genuine.

Not having any relevance is an important feature of this thread.

I was waiting for you to pipe up and predictably you didn't disappoint. Well done.

Always happy to admit if I've made a mistake. The only one today. A little snide of you to imply otherwise really.

Clever is relative, and sometimes the level of competition is not great.

RheaRend · 07/05/2024 05:24

Zonder · 06/05/2024 21:35

Can you elaborate on that?

Yes, our MP was instrumental in closing ALL of our A n E services back in the day and maternity and then gloated about it in parliament saying they were 'proud of' what happened. It caused ambulances to queue outside for hours - much like everyone else is getting now - just ours began many years ago. Liberals tried to fight it but nope - every single once closed leaving mothers an hour round trip now for help and seriously ill an hour round trip. They also changed the ambulance reporting too meaning it looked like there was no impact both on waiting and on deaths.

RheaRend · 07/05/2024 05:26

So basically I assume they want to finish off what they started. They also refused to fund staffing and preferring to use the money for entertainment within hospitals rather than staffing and equipment.

RheaRend · 07/05/2024 05:33

JessS1990 · 06/05/2024 21:44

Its late, and I may be struggling for comphrehension.

I think you are saying that Labour closed down your hospital services that have never reopened and are now going to close down the same services again.
How can a service that has closed and not reopened be closed again?

Nope they closed down services like A n E and maternity and gloated about it so why would they not close the rest? We never got them back so it has had an impact on deaths and births. Since then we have had ambulances queuing. It was never an issue when it was just us dealing with it but now it is others it is a scandal eh? They also harvested money from wards and put it into entertainment and refused extra staffing and equipment for wards. So no I do not have faith that they will be for the better. Labour started it, Tories finished it. I'd rather not have someone in charge who thinks it is funny to remove services and cause deaths.

stripycats · 07/05/2024 06:11

Why are ambulances queueing if there is no A+E, have they not been told?

@Anuggetofpurestgreen Yes would be nice if if you can stick to facts wouldn't it? rather than just making them up.

I've googled and found two articles about Andy Burnham saying he supported local NHS saying some services had to go. Mail and Express 2010. Then LOADS of articles post 2010 of him fighting to keep services open.

Mr Burnham said he would support doctors, NHS managers and charities who said units should be downgraded or merged - even if the local public, and Labour MPs, are vociferously opposed

Because the one an hour away had to take all the cases from the closed services. There isn't queues here it is closed. You understand that if you close multiple services those patients have to go out of town to the closest one which then has to take on their own and those of all others.

I understand that you are very passionate about this, but in that passion your posts are not making much sense.

Can I confirm that you do not in fact expect Labour to shut services that they closed previously?

We call the one out of town 'ours' now as it is the closest and technically all we have available. I dont trust that them and can imagine they will shut MORE services. Not rocket science. They shut some leading to overflow at the one closest to us I expect they will shut more as they said they were proud of shutting ours before.

Most of our MIU's in Cornwall have faced closure and restricted opening hours for many years now, all down to staff shortages.
The latest is Newquay, which closing two days per week, the alternatives are over 2 hours away in holiday traffic & are shutting at 8pm on other days.

Ambulances of course wouldn't be taking many patients to an MIU, they go to Treliske, the only AE in all of Cornwall but closures do mean patients who don't need extensive AE have to go as there is no alternative.

Its quite a re write of history to blame Labour after 14 years of the Tories slowly under funding the NHS, whilst increasing immigration and failing to address Social Care.
