To finally be looking forward to a GE?

The past election/PM changes have been horrendous. The visceral disappointment was awful each time.

I can’t wait to actually celebrate this year. I know, I know, Labour are going to set fire to the economy and tax everyone £3mil each and it’ll cost you 4 trillion a month to send you kid to private school, and all women will perish immediately because only Tories know what a woman is Hmm

But finally! It’s been a long fucking time coming.

@eise for the record there will be no Vat on education if Labour win, there will however be VAT on private school fees which feels right to 95% of the population that do not send their children to private schools.

There will also be closure to the loophole that allows the self employed or company owners to offset private school fees against their tax liability which again feels right and fair.

For the record you cannot offset school fees against your tax. There may well have been a loophole historically but it certainly hasn’t been the case for the last 20yrs.
Maybe you should do a bit of research before commenting.

Well I would say that the police wouldn't be investigating so publicly if they didn't have proper evidence, but unfortunately that is me with my rose-tinted specs on. We shall wait and see.

They investigate publicly with everybody in the private eye( thinking partygate, castle gate…) particularly when they have a Tory boot in their back desperate for a bit of muck spreading.

stripycats · 06/05/2024 11:59

I don't think I've engaged with any discussions about rude things Torys have said. Not interested in discussing those sorts of things as quite dull.

Gotcha - must have misinterpreted the endless posts about AR's comment as you being interested in such things - sorry!😂😂😂😂

I was sort of thinking of poor Cliff Richard and how we can't rely on the police doing the right thing these days. But the boot/muck image was a nice touch if a little dramatic.

Are you finding it hard to not get so upset about Ang and the multiple articles and videos?

I couldn’t give a shit who you attribute it to people will see it’s Ang and remember that. So what about whoever you’re pushing.

Maybe she should hold off on the juvenile comments if they reflect so poorly on her as a person 🤷‍♀️

So what you're saying is the spin is more important than the facts? Makes sense.

Zonder · 06/05/2024 12:02

Anuggetofpurestgreen · 06/05/2024 10:44

Oh so sorry. Apologies. I just really couldn't be bothered. Let's just say you won that one whatever it was.

Thanks for once again clarifying that you're not really interested in truth.

Like pp pretending the NHS was implemented under a Tory PM 😆

Anyway, back to the real world...

YANBU OP; I feel the same.

Labour have certainly got their work cut out for them after the GE, but I absolutely cannot wait to see the back of the ghastly government.

I'm actually such a loser that I'm genuinely excited for the GE night - planning to get in nice snacks and drinks and stay up all night getting immense enjoyment from seeing one Tory after another lose their seats. Grin

😀This reminds me a meme I saw the other day about watching a Tory cry in a leisure centre at 3am 😀

Tories seem to be good and bullying the police to look into things for them in an attempt to smear Labour. They did it with 'Keir's beers' too. Remind me what the outcome of that was? Like Keir did then, Angela has said she will stand down if she is found to have done wrong (even though she wasn't an MP at the time) so your wish for purity will be fulfilled even if she is found guilty. Imagine that - standing down/resigning because you are in the wrong?!

If my memory serves me correctly the Tories weren't happy with the outcome of the first investigation into Keir's Beer and were squealing for another one. They are repeating these tactics with Ange.

What is totally wrong is that if we weren't happy with the Police response into a burglary etc, we have no right to demand the Police reinvestigate.

Yet a Tory MP can, not based on the facts or new evidence but purely for political gain, GMP just roll over.

...and all for something where the "offence" is time limited to 12months, so what exactly are they doing even looking into this?

CGT evasion isn't a Police matter.

That appears to be what you’re saying in fact

I googled to see who said it videos and articles for Ang. If she didn’t want that then don’t say it, it’s not hard. I mean maybe it is for gobby types but most people can rein it in. There will likely be more of the same

Something about Nadine Dorries book, at this point no one cares. Given it’s good old Ang in the video footage and written about and that’s what will stick.

Well, it was a little dismissive of me so I'm not surprised you are perhaps a little put out. But it's a teeny bit your fault too by referring to a point made pages ago that I would have to spend time going through to find and perhaps , if I might be a little bit rude, wasnt such a memorable post anyway (apologies again). A little help from you with a cut and paste job would have been wonderful. And now the moment had passed. Hey ho.

NewStartNowish · 06/05/2024 12:10

I really am struggling deciding who to vote for. We need strong public services.
Without a functioning health service and schools, we are broken. There is no ‘economic growth’ etc possible without a healthy and educated population. I fear for my young adult kids.

So it’s a no for me re the Tories. But I am not a fan of Labour or Starmer right now. There is no decent viable option.

When I voted Labour in 1997, I was hopeful and excited. Not sure what’s changed..I am older, the world is shit and Labour is disappointing. A mix of all of that I guess.

Zonder · 06/05/2024 12:11

I'm not at all put out. I just see it as more evidence of the poor grasp on truth some people have. To be fair I did quote you in the post so it would have been easy to see it in notifications and respond, if truth was a concern for you. Happy to leave it now, since your response has proved quite an interesting point.

I doubt very much that Labour are perfect - but the Tories (as manifest by this shower of shite) are evil.

But I stand by my post. You are voting purely selfishly. Which is what all Tories do. I truly hope that VAT is imposed on private education, as PE epitomises privilege, which is something most families cannot afford.

"I can't have it so I'm going to stamp my feet and make it harder for everyone else to have it because the chip on my shoulder is everyone else's problem"

What makes me laugh is the pettiness of what the Tories try to rake up muck from compared to say the massive things their MPs get pulled up on and leave for- over and again. It’s happened so many times and so massively they’re running of anybody to take the top jobs.

But hey let’s focus and scrutinise somebody selling their ex council house years ago.

Oh my Gosh - she deliberately quoted the book to make the point that despite being the leader of a party that still has a sizeable majority (inherited, but still) he is not popular amongst his own, and there are people in his own party who see him as a loser! That's quite an important point that Ange was making. It's the run up to an election and he is seen as a loser by his own party. That's why it got such a reaction in the house, not because it's a spectacularly funny thing to say in and of itself, but because his party see him as a loser. That matters. Why would she want to rein that in?

They are the realistic options for most people so it's whether all the terrible things you've listed re the Tories continuing is the better choice.

For me, it's an easy choice and I'd rather give someone else a chance to not be absolutely awful.

Yep, Zahawi, Hunt, Sunak himself over his wife's interests in childcare providers which he never disclosed...

Its a witch-hunt, against a woman, done by the media, the police and politicians... all supported by many on here, we ve learnt nothing all.

Neither the HMRC or the Police were ever interested in what happened many years ago.

Tories even tried it on with Labours Richard Parker, reported for not being eligible to stand as Mayor, can't win at the ballot box... we'll report you!!!
