The past election/PM changes have been horrendous. The visceral disappointment was awful each time.

I can’t wait to actually celebrate this year. I know, I know, Labour are going to set fire to the economy and tax everyone £3mil each and it’ll cost you 4 trillion a month to send you kid to private school, and all women will perish immediately because only Tories know what a woman is Hmm

But finally! It’s been a long fucking time coming.

Is this it for the next five years? Nadine wrote a book and made us do it.

Sounds exciting

You haven't read Mad Nads book? I think you would enjoy it. I can send you a copy if you like.

Imagine having all of that privilege and entitlement the Tory cabinet have and then being held accountable by a working class northern woman who was a single teenage mum and came up through the unions. Look at Diane Abbot’s experience too. This isn’t just aimed at AR, it’s endemic of the superiority and contempt at the very centre of the current cabinet. Also, all of the politician popularity is so dangerous - look at Boris Johnson’s record to see what happens when people vote for personality (!) over competency and being fit for office.

Oh you've ruined it now by mentioning Diane "two shoes" Abbot. Angela Raynor is ok in theory and does have an impressive story. Diane is a total hypocrite. You cannot campaign for the abolition of private schools while chosing private education for your kids I'm sorry. I know people have come up with various convoluted methods of excusing Labour MPs doing that but it just doesn't wash.

stripycats · 06/05/2024 11:34

People really are showing their true colours here now trying to bang the drum for Reform. While I appreciate they did well in Blackpool and I think they did get a couple of seats in the end, they aren't looking that powerful, despite the way the media, and now people here, carry on. Lib Dems and Greens now, they did do well, but get barely a mention. The best thing Reform are doing is splitting the Tory vote, which makes be feel very kindly towards them!

And for all the crying about Angela Raynor's witty use of one of Sunak's own party's comments about him, there is still no comment about all the vile things Tories constantly come out with. I've though of another corker - when JRM said the people in Grenville Tower were too stupid to escape...Only yesterday, Braveman said Keir Starmer has 'the charisma of a peanut.' I guess that's fine though and not juvenile at all.

She already got cleared in the frst investigation and nobody has an idea what the current investigation is about as James Daly is refusing to say what offence he thinks she committed

Maybe she got locked up in a room with bad people

No I think the matter is yet to be cleared up so as I say, I'm reserving judgement and hopefully, for the benefit of the whole country, someone getting quite so close to power is clean as a whistle.

🤣. No, Labour haven't thought the policy out as well

Your article is his behind a Torygraph paywall.

Greek private school system was already on the brink and fees are a fraction of those in the UK.

Apples and pears. I know you find it hysterical 🙄but as I said we’re not Greece.

You’re mucking up fixing the internet. It’s Nadine you need

How is making people aware of the original source of a quote 'mucking up fixing' the internet'?

This has been cleared up

Labour MP Angela Rayner cleared after police investigation

A complaint was made to GMP about the Ashton-under-Lyne MP

@blossomtoes was most enthusiastic for Reform, banging their drum I suppose. Who else did to ‘show their true colours’?

I think they’re rising similar to EU parties and the issues contributing to that will continue. It’s a bit pointless ignoring what’s going on in other countries, even if we don’t see it yet, as it will increasingly impact us

Anuggetofpurestgreen · 06/05/2024 11:41

That article is from March. The police investigation still ongoing re CGT and council tax evasion. As I say I really hope someone so close to power is squeaky clean as it would be a real indictment of how crap our politicians are if she's found guilty.

I can link you to the ASI and EDK report which both say pretty much the same thing as the Torygraph.
It is a badly thought out policy which will do nothing but satisfy the activists that Labour are socking it to the elite. The elite which incidentally consists of many Labour MPs as there are double the national average of privately educated people within Labour MPs

@JessS1990 has gone off to hang out with donkeys so it seems they’re given up. Others will have to pick up the effort

Who has been banging the drum for Reform, you funny person?? Can we not talk about them now without accusations of..I don't know what it is yoir are accusing people of actually.

Dri55le555 · 06/05/2024 11:44

Exactly.

I find it hysterical that rich Tories with multiple homes and staff paid to avoid tax for them are apparantly thinking it necessary to pick apart somebody selling the only (council) home they owned several years ago.

They’re terrified of her.

Anuggetofpurestgreen · 06/05/2024 11:45

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2024 11:43

Yes, as I said that was the first investigation.

This is the current vague investigation

https://news.sky.com/story/tory-mp-who-complained-about-labours-angela-rayner-to-police-refuses-to-say-what-he-thinks-shes-done-wrong

Well I would say that the police wouldn't be investigating so publicly if they didn't have proper evidence, but unfortunately that is me with my rose-tinted specs on. We shall wait and see.

Ruined what exactly? To just to be clear, I was referring to her within the context of Tory party contempt for those not like them and referring to the racist, misogynistic and class-based discrimination she has been targeted with by Tory party members and their associates in the right wing press. Those facts remain regardless of her where she sent her son to school. What exactly you implying? As I’ve already said on this thread there is a much wider social context than private schools. Starmer isn’t proposing to ban them, afterall.

stripycats · 06/05/2024 11:46

@Anuggetofpurestgreen Um... you were. They didn't do that well, hence Lee Anderson having a massive strop and making a tit of himself on the radio on Friday morning, which was funny.

Still no comment on horrible things Tories have said?

Ruined the theme at the start of your post being great Labour women with a great back story. I was slightly agreeing with the Angela point (although wouldn't vote for her) but then you mentioned the Abbot.

I didn't read the rest of your post. Apologies.

Tories seem to be good and bullying the police to look into things for them in an attempt to smear Labour. They did it with 'Keir's beers' too. Remind me what the outcome of that was? Like Keir did then, Angela has said she will stand down if she is found to have done wrong (even though she wasn't an MP at the time) so your wish for purity will be fulfilled even if she is found guilty. Imagine that - standing down/resigning because you are in the wrong?!

For some reason I keep missing replies to things I've posted in such a whirlwind and a flurry!! So I've forgotten my original point. It's a fast-moving world we live in, that's for sure!

I don't think I've engaged with any discussions about rude things Torys have said. Not interested in discussing those sorts of things as quite dull.

Oh I see now where you are coming from. I think.

I just asked what people thought of Reforms prospects. I emphasised they "are not my bag". That's as far as I think I went?? And then where Lee Anderson comes into my post I have no idea. Sorry! Mountain out of a molehill there by you I think.
