The past election/PM changes have been horrendous. The visceral disappointment was awful each time.

I can’t wait to actually celebrate this year. I know, I know, Labour are going to set fire to the economy and tax everyone £3mil each and it’ll cost you 4 trillion a month to send you kid to private school, and all women will perish immediately because only Tories know what a woman is Hmm

But finally! It’s been a long fucking time coming.

Except it won't be 1.6billion. 2 reports gave now blown holes in the IFS claims and it is looking more likely to be a net figure of 0.8-1 billion which under 1% of annual budget and has already been spent (not on school buildings).

Quite a sizeable amount so worth having.

No I would say most Tory voters are fed up and not sure how to vote now. But they don't like Labour.

What do people think of Reform? They aren't my bag and I'm a ballot defacer. But they look like they might be number 3 or even 2 if the tories implode (although PR suggest not). Loads of red wall ex labour voters where I am love them and might vote for them instead of back to Labour. Although currently I don't think it will make much difference to the outcome.

I’m very happy about Reform. It’s splitting the right wing vote and reducing the Tories’ chances of reelection even further. I hope they do well.

I would love to see labour get in but am not keen on kier stammer. Angela rayner taking the lead would be so much better.

I also don’t understand all the hate for Angela Raynor. Is it because she’s a working class woman? From what I see, MP’s do go at each other, so why so much focus on AR? I sometimes wonder if other parties see her as a real threat so they try to pull her down wherever possible. People are talking about her comments, I hope these people were equally appalled when she was accused of distracting Boris by crossing and uncrossing her legs…….pure misogyny!

Except it will only reduce in the medium to long-term as behaviour changes. A much more sustainable and lucrative way of funding state education would be through income tax. A 1p education tax for higher rate tax payers could potentially bring in 8 billion per year immediately and for the long term.
VAT is a regressive form of taxation.

BIWI · 06/05/2024 11:10

@HavfrueDenizKisi You're quite right - my bad - it was initiated in 2010 by the Conservatives. I obviously had it muddled up in my mind with the 2008 financial crisis.

Both would be good. Funny how every penny counts but not if it impacts private education.😂

I think she’s seen as a huge threat. Her achievements dwarf just about any other MP’s, she’s highly intelligent, quick witted and says it like it is. She reminds me of that other red headed firebrand Barbara Castle. She’s grown on me a lot.

Yes she doesn’t take any of that patronising, male, private boys club shit.

Reform are following similar rise in the EU although we have a different electoral system

Starmer is managing to avoid the migration issue so far but as for the EU it will grow. If the EP shifts right in June as predicted, and US gets hardline on borders will see the impact here.

I am surprised that someone who spends so much time on here posting on political threads was unaware that Rayner was quoting a former Tory MP and minister.

Dri55le555 · 06/05/2024 11:26

Blimey just looked at Angela Rayners wiki page, what a life and achievement to get where she is.So much life experience and far more worthy of being in charge of the majority then members of the Eton boys club.

Is this it for the next five years? Nadine wrote a book and made us do it.

Sounds exciting

Or how about they don’t focus on the people already paying more than their fair share of tax and tax everyone else in line with other countries.

Dri55le555 · 06/05/2024 11:23

We’re not Greece.

🤣. No, Labour haven't thought the policy out as well

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2024 11:29

Angela Rayner made you do what? Check facts?

Anuggetofpurestgreen · 06/05/2024 11:29

She's potentially committed tax fraud so on the basis that's still outstanding and I think we need a clean sweep and a bit of probity in our MPs on all sides, I'm reserving judgement. I do like the fact she stands up for herself though and is a tough cookie clearly. I like her a lot better than Sir Keir who I think is hiding his real views.

SherbsL · 06/05/2024 11:29

Imagine having all of that privilege and entitlement the Tory cabinet have and then being held accountable by a working class northern woman who was a single teenage mum and came up through the unions. Look at Diane Abbot’s experience too. This isn’t just aimed at AR, it’s endemic of the superiority and contempt at the very centre of the current cabinet. Also, all of the politician popularity is so dangerous - look at Boris Johnson’s record to see what happens when people vote for personality (!) over competency and being fit for office.

She already got cleared in the frst investigation and nobody has an idea what the current investigation is about as James Daly is refusing to say what offence he thinks she committed

Maybe she got locked up in a room with bad people

The Tories offer the nation nothing at all, as Braverman said over the weekend "why would anyone vote for us?"

So they pick on a woman, that they see as a threat, though men have been blaming women ever since Adam and Eve!

Its also rather ironic that a poster who is so vocal on MN over TWAW/Women's rights, then makes & supports unjustified attacks on Angela Rayner....

Had nothing to say when Sunak called Starmer & Ian Blackford fat, or Bojo trying look up her skirt.
