The past election/PM changes have been horrendous. The visceral disappointment was awful each time.

I can’t wait to actually celebrate this year. I know, I know, Labour are going to set fire to the economy and tax everyone £3mil each and it’ll cost you 4 trillion a month to send you kid to private school, and all women will perish immediately because only Tories know what a woman is Hmm

But finally! It’s been a long fucking time coming.

Right, so you agree he's not Corbyn's man then as obviously expelling him from the party would suggest otherwise.

What evidence is there in the way that the party has changed and the messages that are being given out that he believes the same as Corbyn? Why is the left of the party constantly carping about him and calling for his removal? Why has Owen Jones, for example, left the party? Why have pretty much all Corbyn's allies been removed from the shadow cabinet and, for example, Yvette Cooper brought back? Why is Rachel Reeves, put in her post by KS, constantly talking about fiscal responsibility?

He's made some odd decisions if he just believes everything Corbyn does.

I told you. It would lose votes to keep him in.

I'm the north east.

We have continuity of education here. So children who have begun their education in the triad, even if out of catchment, take priority over anyone moving into the area. Even if they live right next door to the school.

As soon as mine got their place at 4 I knew there would be no need to worry for the transfers.

The general consensus is its served the children well.

Wouldn’t that just put pressure to get in catchment earlier, pre 4?

Unless your school is not oversubscribed to the same extent

We do actually have feeder schools for some state and continuity all the way through and it just moves the pressure to earlier on. Parents really put in the effort to secure higher price housing as they know it’s once off.

Overall though, outside the politicians, the happiest people will be estate agents thinking of higher commission. Just thinking of the SE which is highly competitive, but other areas maybe the same

I’m in the south east and it is the lottery system and works.

As I said, no one really knows. I was pointing out that not everyone agrees there will be a Labour majority. Bookies aren’t necessarily the best way of predicting an outcome.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/eu-referendum-bookies-have-always-made-a-remain-vote-favourite-and-the-odds-continue-to-shorten-dramatically-a7093971.html

Of course one doesnt know until all the votes cast have been counted, but it is possible to make predictions from all the available evidence. When one does that, the conclusion one comes to in this case is quite certain, with no other options being within the margin of error.

Ah, ok, I see it now... So you are saying that if elected he will bring Corbyn back and bring back all the 2019 manifesto policies? I mean it doesn't seem likely does it?

Actually, I'm excited now - are you the advisor who keeps telling Rishi Sunak to mention 'The member for Islington North,' every week at PMQs??!!

The local elections where Labour (and the Lib Dems and Greens) saw the biggest swings in seats where they were previously in 2nd place.

Even the home of the Army voted Labour.

Rushmore (Aldershot) is an interesting case, and not as black and white as it seems. Firstly, half of the army is no longer there, the barracks have been redeveloped into housing estates. The demographics have changed. Secondly there are millions in pounds of investment going on. So much building and infrastructure, new retail and leisure sites, lots of housing.

What made the locals switch to Labour. Not the performance of the local council who are doing a pretty good job. It's a vote on national concerns, not local.

I don’t want to state that.

whistleblower99 · 05/05/2024 11:55

This thread is absolute proof of why the country has gone to shit. People arguing and putting up polls thinking Labour will charge in on their horses and save the day.

What I want and I don’t care who it is - is a party that will come up with real plans to sort the predicted shitstorm coming our way as the IMF predict.

That’s what I want. How are we going to fix the state but also the unsustainable trajectory of increasing (a majority now) of net dependents and a decreasing amount of net contributors. What will be fixed, what is the priority, how will they pay for it and how will they make the state smaller? That needs to happen because our trajectory is dreadful and it will be a lot worse going forwards.

No party is addressing this. Too many of the electorate think Labour can save the day and are completely unaware of the IMF’s recent report for example. We are completely fucked and no-one is addressing it.

I don’t want to state that.

I don’t know how many areas use it but it wouldn’t be welcomed here

Parents are pretty full on about school choice for state

Desperada68 · 05/05/2024 12:02

Not unreasonable in the slightest. I don't think Labour will set the world on fire, or reverse the damage that's been done overnight as the b*stard Tories are making bloody sure they've not only burned but salted the earth behind them as it were, but Jesus it will be good to have a grown up or two in charge again.

And as for Teesside retaining a Tory, I can hear their ancestors spinning in their graves from the other side of the Pennines.

It feels like a more cautious sober 1997.

Funny. No I'm not saying that. It's clearly more of a complicated point than I realised. I tbought I was saying he believes in the same things as Corbyn because he stood by his side and supported him. He thought Corbyn was a good option for PM. Luckily not many people agreed. But I think he's still a red. His fundamental beliefs wont have changed just because Labour got trounced in 2019. Or they shouldn't have if he has any integrity (maybe they will bend in the wind just to get him into No.10)

We shall see. I hope I'm wrong and he's just the centrist chap he says he is.

You do realise a Labour win is going to be like Brexit.

You think it will be a Labour land of milk and honey, and it will be a shit show.

Women trashed, for the benefit of Gen Z, I finally got my child to admit not wanting their future female off spring to see the Transwoman in all their glory, and have to tell a biological lie to keep the peace.

There will be no money pot to up benefits.

Taxes will have to go up, a lot.

Is that the reason 😬

I jest. Not everyone thinks the same about Labour. You might get that on a Labour site on FB or somewhere but it’s a public forum not controlled

If Labour dropped gender / VAT and looked at CU I could see why people had reason to expect a funding bump

It’s a bit light though atm in terms of funds, VAT is tiny

Love it. Although tbf I can't really see a huge proportion of the electorate thinking "goddammit. I can't vote Labour now because Jeremy Corbyn isn't in the party". Just a hunch though. I'm sure you're right.
