To compliment the thread about labour and give a bit of balance, let’s discuss the legacy of 14 years Conservative government. Never voted for them myself and although we now have 2 out of 3 Tory MPs up here because of the Brexit effect I haven’t seen any great improvement in our town. In fact if anything it’s pretty much gone to the dogs. So good and bad, what have they achieved ?

Keir was partying too.

That was NHS England. Definitely not the Tories.

Keir was partying too.

You've tried that one before on this thread.

No, he wasn't. He was investigated twice and was found not to have done any wrong. Stop it now.

youngones1 · 05/05/2024 14:43

@pointythings ouch.

youngones1 · 05/05/2024 14:47

Keir really should have resigned over beergate, shame on him when everyone was following the restrictions. There again, he also has a special pension, unlike the rest of us, that isn't subject to the lifetime allowance. One rule for the privately educated, white, Keir, and another for the rest of us! 😂

At first you had me, then I figured you were a parody because your posts were just funny. Now I'm not really sure what you're doing with your pointless inaccurate posts. I guess maybe Tory intern having a go and hoping someone believes your spin?

The Tories have also begun a worrying trend of wasting police time and resources to smear political opposition.

Thats authoritarian dictatorship shit right there. They've broken the Social Contract.

Edited

Let’s face it, they haven’t got anything else. Desperation’s setting in.

And you're still at it.

For the hard of thinking: He was investigated twice and found not to have breached the restrictions.

I'm really not sure why you don't get this, all you have to do is look it up.

Made Upskirting illegal on public transport.

but one of their own christopher chips tried to filibuster it so it didn't pass.

i don't disagree with you but i was just pointing out it wasn't some 'great' Tory policy that they implemented for moral or ideological reasons.
they had no choice or there would have been anarchy on the streets and the country would have been in a far worse position now if that's possible.

ChallahPlaiter · 05/05/2024 17:44

misszebra · 04/05/2024 18:34

they have reminded us that we should be proud to be British, not ashamed. they instil patriotism in us as living and working people.

the conservatives encourage us to work, provide for our families, and be resilient - not moan and groan and blame everyone else for our problems.

when I think back to the war, we got by through patriotism and work ethic, I don't think the Labour Party would encourage either of those.

Which war? Gulf? Iraq? The last world war ended almost eighty years ago so I’d be surprised if you personally got through it with work ethic or whatever you’ve retrospectively decided happened.

youngones1 · 05/05/2024 17:46

The Tories have not put vat on private school fees.

The Tories have not put vat on private school fees.

Well, that's good for the 7% of children who go to private school. But private school is a luxury, not an essential, so it absolutely should have VAT on it. It's an anomaly that it doesn't.

@HappiestSleeping

•	The Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill responds to the Supreme Court’s concerns and will allow Parliament to confirm the status of the Republic of Rwanda as a safe third country, thereby enabling the removal of persons who arrive in the United Kingdom (UK) under the Immigration Acts.
•	The bill:
•	confirms that Rwanda is a safe third country for the purposes of removing individuals to Rwanda

I know all that. It didn't stop the same government from declaring Rwanda to be unsafe earlier this year and granting people from there asylum in the UK though.

Doesn't that strike you as odd?

youngones1 · 05/05/2024 18:42

@HappiestSleeping the government didn't grant refugees asylum it was those liberal judges again 😂

I think you know that it's actually the home office that make those decisions.

Voted to allow sewage dumping by water companies in our rivers, lakes and coasts for at least 15 more years.

Given Suella Braverman gainful employment

And...

Committed electoral suicide it seems

Thank you.
it was a very astute economic response. It was unique until it was copied. The US allowed staff to be laid off then the Governement paid them direct for example. The Tory government kept people employed and that was very smart.
I Am not sure there is an ideological response to a pandemic but this was a good response and we had the debt capacity to do it.
