To ask what the tories have ever done for us…

To compliment the thread about labour and give a bit of balance, let’s discuss the legacy of 14 years Conservative government. Never voted for them myself and although we now have 2 out of 3 Tory MPs up here because of the Brexit effect I haven’t seen any great improvement in our town. In fact if anything it’s pretty much gone to the dogs. So good and bad, what have they achieved ?

Having worked in the nhs under both parties, I have to say that under Labour it was much better.

The Tories are not half the evil the agenda pushers always claim they are. However, they have not done a great job and have fucked the middle classes. It does not mean Labour is much better.

I won’t be here to see what Labour would be like. However, I can see how the odious major of London has damaged this city. Wales is under Labour so that can give you an idea about the NHS. What about the Labour councils going bankrupt? The middle classes would suffered with either party but more with Labour. They think we are a cash cow. Have your free meals and transport but I rather the streets are safe from illegal criminals and gangs. That kids can walk to school without being knifed.

'What about the Labour councils going bankrupt?' Anything to do with their funding being MASSIVELY reduced by the Tory government...?

Labour solved the knife crime and gang problems last time they took over from the awful Tories, why would they fail this time? Except that the Tories have made it even harder by screwing the country up even more than last time of course!

PurpleH · 05/05/2024 05:49

Why and how would it be worse?

LoudSnoringDog · 05/05/2024 05:57

I do believe that the tories have spent the past two years decimating the country to the point that no incoming govt will be able to get a handle on it. They have known for a while that they will be obliterated at the next GE. If Labour get the predicted landslide and become the next government they will have years of shit to shovel and the tories will use this to their advantage

Fr7fr6 · 05/05/2024 06:04

Absolutely nothing positive, I can't see a single aspect of society which has improved in the past fourteen years. Everything has gotten measurably worse. I cannot think of one policy they've had that has improved my quality of life or environment.

I see a few people mentioning furlough, so many of us were excluded from this. If you'd recently switched jobs or were on a fixed term contract, you were fucked. I imagine so many furloughed people's contacts weren't renewed at this time in the public sector.

In 2012, I was proud to be British and voted 'No' in the 2014 Scottish independence referendum. Despite still not being in favour of independence, I now feel embarrassed to say that I'm British abroad. Now when asked, I emphasise the point that I'm Scottish. There is still so much that is great about the UK, but the Tories have diminished our nation at home and abroad.

Technically that was a Liberal Democrat under the coalition. You give the Tories too much credit lol

Lol. I was about to say 'living wage' - but that was also coalition wasn't it?

Created a perpetual false narrative. It's okay to lie about achievements successes I 100% guarantee whatever Labour does achieve by a levelling up agenda they will be saying that would never happen under a Tory government as the voting populous are inherently right wing. They don't understand the damage they have done and it affects everyone unless you are super rich.
Their cronies are the establishment the printed media the artistrocracy. They know how to create a divided society and through their aspiration to wealth and greed is good philosophy they know how to appeal to the masses.
New Labour nearly took them down but they were far too strong and they will be back.
I remember Thatcher she changed the country for ever. The damage she caused we are still paying the price for. Yet many see her as the ultimate working class hero.
I hope KS has the gravitas to change the tide but I see the country more divided than ever.

I live in a Conservative strong hold. Our Local Authority like most has huge debts. This is due to the lack of government funding and huge demand on services caused by the crisis in many public services. This posters thinking is a prime example of how they perpetuate a false narrative.

By the way, understand that rejoining the EU Single Market would compel us to scrap that as the EU would demand anything sold legally on the continent would be legal here too.

All those furlough payments during COVID.
If it hadn’t been for that, many people would have lost jobs and businesses would have gone under.
People have short memories though.

You’re framing that as a good thing because they did it but I’d guarantee if Labour would have been the ones to give generous payouts and write off all the furlough fraudulent over payments to businesses, you’d soon change your tune 🤪

That was the Tories, was it? I thought it was the NHS. In that case the Tories also successfully treated my friend's cancer. Go Tories.

You’re getting a little desperate there - they’d only been in power 2 years! That had fuck all to do with them. Barrel scraping par excellence 🙄

Well that’s a fabulous Brexit benefit. Yay.

Lengokengo · 05/05/2024 08:27

They motivated me to sit citizenship exams in my country of residence (EU), in order to get a passport for that country in addition to my British passport. The whole thing , ie process of lessons, exams, applications etc cost me around £ 1500, but it was worth every Penny for my shiny burgundy EU passport and my peace of mind.

i will use my postal vote to vote against those f*ckers and all the worry and turmoil they put me through.

youngones1 · 05/05/2024 08:40

Told us all not to vote Brexit. Shame on us we didn't follow their advice.
