Reason for scheduled induction if baby not overdue

Hi,

What medical reason would a woman be given a medical induction when the baby is not overdue? I thought if baby was in danger an emergency C-section would be performed.

I'm overweight, I went in for a growth scan and saw a doctor who was testing for gestational diabetes or something. He was fuming I hadn't been booked in for a c section or induction (gave me the option reluctantly) because I was measuring big. I was in within 10 days to have my baby.

However reading other comments now, it sounds like you're trying to stick your nose where it doesn't belong. If someone isnt telling you why they're going in early then you need to respect their wishes and keep out of it.

But why would an induction be planned weeks in advance?

Mine was due to a blood clotting disorder that caused 4 losses

BeUniqueZebra · 07/05/2024 19:33

I was induced at 36 weeks for pre-eclampsia.

Quite clearly an emergency c-section by definition cannot be planned weeks in advance.

If it was planned weeks ahead its not an emergency. They don't want her to go overdue, they don't need to get baby out within minutes

Induction would be chosen if there was no reason to have a c-section and vaginal delivery was possible.

Beyond that you need to mind your own business.

It’s absolutely non of your business why the person doesn’t want to share THEIR medical history with you! Stop being so nosey!

Hollybobs1 · 07/05/2024 20:12

I was offered to have a date set to be induced with both my babies just incase they were 10 days late. They were just booked in advance to prevent possible complications if they were late. Luckily they both came before my induction dates.

Yellowtrouser · 07/05/2024 20:38

My induction was booked for about a week after my due date, but booked in before we got to due date. It was due to my high blood pressure and making sure I didnt go past 41 weeks. Wouldnt have bothered covering it up though and it wasnt needed as bany came a couple of days before.

NewYearNewMNName · 07/05/2024 20:49

At 34w, my induction was booked for 37w due to high bile acid readings after being diagnosed with OC.

There are numerous reasons why it would be advised that you are induced early

Someone I know has had their induction. Scheduled from early on but is trying to cover up the reasons why, so I was curious to find out the medical reason.

Oh. If they don't want you to know then give them the respect of minding your own business

GettingStuffed · 07/05/2024 20:53

In my case preeclampsia

vickylou78 · 07/05/2024 20:53

For whatever reason induction is usually because of a medical reason they don't want the pregnancy to go full term as safer if baby comes earlier. There are lots of different specific reasons for this.

Searchingforthelight · 07/05/2024 20:57

Had inductions early because I asked for this. No reason other than my request.
Now settle down with your nosiness!

WeeOrcadian · 07/05/2024 21:01

None of the reasons given on here will answer your question though

Why are you so invested?

ChristmasCwtch · 07/05/2024 21:07

I had an induction at 39+6, as I was bored of being pregnant and I was paying for it.

duckydoo234 · 07/05/2024 22:01

I was induced at 38 weeks with DD1 due to cholestasis. DD2 was due to be induced on due date for the same reason, but came a day early. With both, the inductions were planned weeks in advance.

FarmersWife2019 · 07/05/2024 22:04

I was induced due to obstetric cholestasis which can cause still birth. Diagnosed at 36 weeks and induced at 37+4 weeks.

You posted this in AIBU. Yes you are. Mind your own business.

Hospital protocol is if you come in fod two instances of reduced foetal movement after 37 weeks gestation they will induce you

89redballoons · 07/05/2024 22:16

I have read about women over 35 or 40 having inductions scheduled at 39/40 weeks as it's thought there is a risk of the placenta failing if they go beyond that, and an induction is felt to be preferable to a c section as less risky perhaps? I think that is probably in the US more than the UK, though.

I had unexplained spotting lots of times during my first pregnancy from 30 weeks onwards. When I ended up being monitored in hospital for about the 4th time and I was 38 weeks the doctor said there was an argument for inducing me there and then because the bleeding was unexplained. I declined that though and went into labour naturally a few days later anyway.

dreadisabaddog · 07/05/2024 22:16

High blood pressure without pre-eclampsia here

StripyHorse · 07/05/2024 22:18

Meandyouandyouandme · 02/05/2024 23:12

I was induced early as my amniotic fluid was low.

Me too. Was just over a week before my due date.

Wimpeyspread · 07/05/2024 22:19

Both my daughters were induced, at 37 and 38 weeks, planned well in advance because they are Type 1 diabetics

LifeExperience · 07/05/2024 22:22

I was scheduled to have an induction on a Monday morning at 38 weeks because the baby, my 2nd, was getting large and my 1st had been born by c-section, for being large and breech, at 38 weeks. The Friday evening before that Monday my water broke and I went to hospital as instructed. Labor was very mild overnight, then they started induction the following morning.

Partner with a baby by someone else, you’re trying to persuade him it’s not his.
