Reason for scheduled induction if baby not overdue

plumcake2924 · 02/05/2024 23:10

Hi,

What medical reason would a woman be given a medical induction when the baby is not overdue? I thought if baby was in danger an emergency C-section would be performed.

You sound like a nosey busy body.

Could be a host of things but all definitely none of your business it’s their personal medical information so they have no obligation to share it

Someone I know has had their induction. Scheduled from early on but is trying to cover up the reasons why, so I was curious to find out the medical reason.

Wow. I could tell you the reason for my planned induction but I won’t as it’s none of your fucking business for me, or anyone else.

PeopleAreToads · 03/05/2024 06:10

I had a condition that meant my placenta was more likely to deteriorate after 39 weeks. But identified at 12 weeks so they could plan ahead to induce before then rather than letting me get to the point of having a c section in an emergency and all the risks that come with that

Why so nosy? Why do you need to know? And if they are 'trying to cover it up', so bloody wha, hat is Not Your Business!
But do feel free to pick one of the reasons that the PPs have shared and apply that to this person (who doesn't want people [you]) as a reason for induction

MarinetteDupainCheng · 03/05/2024 06:12

My induction with baby number 3 was planned due to IUGR. As it was, she died 4 days before the planned induction date.

I was told from the start with baby number 4 that I would be induced before 40 weeks due to previous still birth, but exact timing to be determined in 3rd trimester. I developed pre-eclampsia so induction was brought forward to 36 weeks. The only mention of possible c-section was if the labour was failing to progress and/or baby became “unhappy”. Obviously they were monitoring my blood pressure throughout so presumably if it looked like things were progressing towards eclampsia things might have changed.

Well now I wish I hadn’t told you, as it’s none of your business why if they don’t want to share it with you. That’ll teach me to RTFT!

RocketPanda · 03/05/2024 06:35

@MarinetteDupainCheng I'm so very sorry for the loss of your daughter.

TTPD · 03/05/2024 06:40

I was induced at 37 weeks because my waters broke at 34.

ControlShiftDelete · 03/05/2024 06:54

I was offered induction due to the third time I came in for reduced movements and because I was over 39 wks, this was swiftly arranged. I had ARM and then the drip with a vaginal delivery.

trying to cover up the reasons why? Do you mean they are keeping their medical history private?

LillyLeaf · 03/05/2024 07:25

I was induced at 40wks due to it being an ivf pregnancy, I had absolutely no issues, easy pregnancy, I was pretty annoyed by this.

Zelda93 · 03/05/2024 07:34

38weeks because I was old 😃

Would they induce for a mother having pre-eclampsia? Not sure but I always think that’s an emergency situation, either to get medication for mum or get the baby out or possibly both?!

I did with first, she was premature and i had preeclampsia. It was not a sudden danger case, but a needs to arrive (although it ended up being that at the last min) They were not sure how her lungs would be and thought going through the birth canal would push out fluid on the lungs to help her if they were still too under developed.

RedRobyn2021 · 03/05/2024 08:01

Oh so many "reasons"

Baby is "too big"
Baby is "too small"
Mother is "too big"
Mother is "too old"

Any old excuse

Dr Sara Wickham's book Inducing Labour goes through all the different reasons in detail if you're interested

RolyPolyJamSandwich · 03/05/2024 08:04

Gestational Diabetes
Risk of pre-eclampsia
Fibroids
Large baby due to Gestational diabetes

Why though? How does it affect you? You have no right to someone else's medical information.

Kindly @plumcake2924 If the person doesn't want to share that information with anyone outside her medical team then that is up to them. It really isn't anyone else's business

WillJeSuis · 03/05/2024 10:03

I wanted one, asked for one, got one. No other reason. People are judgmental af about it so I generally don't share. Doesn't make it a cover up.

How did you get one if I may ask? Did you go directly to triage or speak to your doctor?

I was booked for induction weeks in advance because I had gestational diabetes which made me higher risk for placenta failing, also DD was measuring big and estimates were taxation she'd be around 11lbs at term.

I had her at 37.5 weeks and she was 8lb 11oz so estimate would probably have been fairly accurate at 0.5 lb gain a week average.

CCLCECSC · 03/05/2024 11:25

GD. Booked for induction on due date and no later.

weegiemum · 03/05/2024 11:34

I was induced at 37 weeks with dc3. This was because the pregnancy was causing kidney problems for me and in the end they just wanted her out so I could take the necessary painkillers and other medications required.

I was lucky because she was happy to come out, induction start to baby was 12 hours!
