Reason for scheduled induction if baby not overdue

Hi,

What medical reason would a woman be given a medical induction when the baby is not overdue? I thought if baby was in danger an emergency C-section would be performed.

OP posts:
Everydayimhuffling · 03/05/2024 11:39

In my case: DC2 has a congenital heart condition and they didn't want him to go over his due date at all. I would think there's lots of reasons for some concern but not an emergency as such.

Spirallingdownwards · 03/05/2024 11:41

Disgusting reason for posting.

I went through a double episiotomy and various surgery after birth and was therefore induced early at 37 weeks for a subsequent birth. However in real life only a few close people know that. By my choice.

You aren't in their chosen circle so don't dig

Noidontwanttobeayesperson · 03/05/2024 11:46

In my case I have a rare blood disorder that was discovered during pregnancy and if they left me longer than 38 weeks would increase the danger to baby. I therefore had an induction booked in early (37 weeks to give leeway). It was/is nobodies business but mine as its my medical history and therefore nobody but immediate family know why I was induced. Infact most don't even know I was pre booked in very early in my pregnancy.

Having read your update now: none of your business, stop digging.

My friend was induced for her 5th baby at 38 weeks because all of her other babies had been massive- biggest of the first 4 was over 12lbs. Made total sense to me. And more importantly, to the mother.

Someone I know has had their induction. Scheduled from early on but is trying to cover up the reasons why, so I was curious to find out the medical reason.

Maybe mind your own business if she doesn't want you to know!!
There are lots of medical reasons, I was induce twice and it was planned far in advance.

I just had a little look at the update and agree with this wholeheartedly. Honestly OP, stop being a nosy bugger.

How did you get one if I may ask? Did you go directly to triage or speak to your doctor?

I spoke to my midwife about 4 weeks before my due date. She referred me to a consultant who discussed it with me and agreed to it. I did obviously have to provide some reasoning for why I wanted to go down this route but when I went my notes just said "IOL - maternal request" and nobody questioned it.
I think it depends very much where you are in the country. I felt very listened to and supported but I know many don't have that experience.

OnGoldenPond · 03/05/2024 15:41

I was admitted just before my due date and told I would be induced that evening due to being diagnosed with pre eclampsia.

Induction didn't actually take place until over a week later but that's another story Angry

Lemonvalley · 04/05/2024 04:04

Sorry for answering.
here I was thinking my post was to help support another woman, and it was actually just to help another woman pry into the private details of another woman.
Honestly you might need to consider seeing a psychologist to figure out what’s wrong with you that you would care about and pry into something so personal you have no business knowing. I say that with sincerity.

Did it ever cross your mind that maybe just maybe it’s none your bloody business why your friend is being induced.

bradpittsbathwater · 04/05/2024 04:39

Maybe your friend didn't want you to know the reasons, which is her right. Mind your own business.

Why do you feel you have a right to have an explanation for someone else's medical care?

They have a right to not tell you if they wish, including a right to mislead you if that stops you prying. That isn't a "cover up" - it's privacy.

Posting this on here really hasn't helped you. There are many many reasons why somebody might have a planned induction and you have no way of knowing if any of them apply to the person you are talking about or if its a completely different, unmentioned reason. Nor do you have a right to know, if the woman being induced doesn't want you to know.

This screams interfering mother in law to me.

TheAlchemy · 07/05/2024 19:08

My inductions were planned pretty much from my booking appointment at 10 weeks. I knew I wouldn’t be going past 39w.

Baby no1 I was induced due to pre existing issues with my blood pressure which put me at high risk of preeclampsia

baby no2 I was induced because I had had 2 second trimester pregnancy losses, plus the continued blood pressure problems, and baby measuring really big.

there are many many medical reasons why an induction may be scheduled right from the beginning of the pregnancy and you are absolutely not entitled to know why for anyone.

There are lots of reasons for planned induction. I knew from the start of my pregnancy that I would be induced at 38 weeks at the latest. The reasons why were nobody else’s business.

Agree.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 07/05/2024 19:14

I was induced at 38w due to gestational diabetes and risk of the placenta deteriorating. My baby was also measuring big (8lb7oz when he was born) so there was risk of shoulder dystocia.

This ended in an EMCS under GA as I had a haemorrhaging placenta and his heart rate dropped too low.

WOW!
If they don't want to tell you they don't need to tell you!
I'm assuming you came here expecting some gossip like "drug/alcohol use" etc!

In the nicest possible way, mind your own.

Twitatwoo · 07/05/2024 19:22

I had a pre planned emergency section because they were worried about his size and I had gestational diabetes?

SavingTheBestTillLast · 07/05/2024 19:24

I had to have a c section one month early as one baby was taking all the food ( apparently, this is what I was told ). Although I found out recently having found my notes ( 20years after ) that one baby was breach as well. ( twins so not unusual )
I was given one days notice although I did reject them being born on the next day as it was a Wednesday so in reality they were born 2days after notice.

I have friends who had planned inductions due to their own health reasons pre eclampsia being one of them.

Boymum2104 · 07/05/2024 19:24

Baby measuring large or small for gestational ago, signs of pre-eclampsia or similar, reduced movements at full term
